I mean Pim was right. The episode continues with a heartbreaking story of Marceline losing her guardian to dementia and insanity and desperately trying to regain Ice King's memory, establishing one of the most complicated and well-developed story arcs of the entire series and cementing itself as a turning point for the show to mature in its storytelling and characters. Charlie just has to trust Pim and wait a few more minutes.

@@sergioescobar1391 There's an episode "Simon and Marcy" which flashbacks to their time together as Ice King was starting to slowly go insane from the crown. There's other episodes that delve into their relationship, but I can't remember them at the moment.

@@sergioescobar1391 I doubt the series would have forgotten about it, it's just that after Simon and Marcy, the show started to go downhill as far as bringing up too many complicated viewpoints and allegories and confusing most of them in the latter half of Season 5 and especially Season 6. I do know that Season 7 to the end were an improvement in wrapping up these loose ends while keeping the stories relatively simple. Though I've seen every episode, I can't recall specifically whether Marceline and Ice King's plot was wrapped up.

Damn, I had this whole bit planned out where I was gonna act like a sarcastic asshole and point out that their whole relationship was overrated, but now that you agree with me, I just feel like shit.

My journey has ended, I have rewatched adventure time. I never finished it as a little lad but now I have and I am content and satisfied with the ending.

In the development of the show they made that clip of ice king as a throw away joke. Then had to explain it thus the Simon Marcy arc. Its my theory that this chaos scared the mind of Rebecca Sugar causing her to make sure every twist in SU was foreshadowed at least 3 seasons in advance.
