Pim Van Lommel, M.D. graduated from the University of Utrecht in 1971 and finished his specialization in cardiology in 1976. He worked from 1977-2003 as a cardiologist in Hospital Rijmstate; an 800 bed teaching hospital in Arnhem, Netherlands.
Currently, he is a full time researcher of the mind-brain connection, with an emphasis on near death experiences in survivors of cardiac arrest. He is the author of over 20 articles, two books, and many chapters regarding NDE (near death experiences).
His research and work about NDE's have been published in renowned medical journals like "The Lancet" and have been internationally recognized as the first scientifically rigorous study of this phenomenon.
In later articles he writes about his concept of continuity of our consciousness and the relation between mind and brain. In 2005 he was awarded the "Bruce Greyson Research Award" on behalf of the the International Association of Near-Death Studies in the United States as well as the President of India awarding him the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the World Congress on Clinical and Preventive Cardiology in New Delhi.
His novel Endless Consciousness has been published in multiple languages and was nominated as the book of the year in The Netherlands.
