Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned junk journal crafter, everyone dyes their papers differently. And since I have had so much fun with these, I thought it would only be fair to show you how I do these.

Oh love the idea of a podcast! I'm sure everybody will have the same questions/topic ideas I have so I'm going in a different direction. People have been mentioning crafting retreats lately so how cool would it be to have one show be like a "retreat experience"? You and a couple guests could junk journal (or whatever craft they wanted) and just have conversation while we're able to craft along with you. It obviously would have to be a longer episode but I think it would be fun.

These are beautiful …being a new junk journalist…I would like to know how to price my journals. I spend many hours making them for family right now because I am putting different memories from over the years. But as with many crafts it’s hard to get paid for your time… I just love making them…it’s a stress reliever for me. My skills are improving and I feel I could sell some. I have tons of lace now😊. Just to say it, I just purchased this hearts and films dies a week ago! I m very exiting for the podcast!!! My question is: how to deal with the comments that using printables it's not a junk journal? For me junk journal is a "place" that you can use anything you want, maybe this is a personal definition, and it's what make me love so much junk journaling. But some people see in different ways. After my "testament" 🤭, thank you so much for one more beautiful inspiration!💙

Discovering junk journaling helped me deal with repercussions of the pandemic. You Barbara, Natasa, Tina, Joie, Pam, Roxy, and others who have channels inspired me to just create! It doesn’t have to be a great work of art, but whatever it turns out to be is ok, because I/we take some time to express ourselves artistically. I appreciate the messages of using what you have , repurposing rather than buying everything. A podcast is a great idea and I will enjoy whatever topics are discussed.

Question: for all three of you What is your background ( degree, education, jobs, previous experiences, evolution in art? Or just god given talent and personal curiosity? How long have you been doing this? How many years did it take to hit the tipping point? The point when people actually knew / know who you are? I know you all draw from each other- and share each other’s ideas , and support each other’s challenges- and share each other’s digitals to self promote and promote each other. Is finding a partner and collaborating the trick? Or is finding a successful KZfaqr and getting him/her to use your stuff and mention your name the answer? How many hours do you devote to computer work( design, upload and upkeep to channel/Etsy shop)? Did you have a unique idea / technique that opened the door?

I’ve been thinking because I want my questions to come out the right way, where they’ll make sense to you. Lol. I have all the parts and pieces in my mind of where I want my journal to go. I have my book cover. All the pages came out very easy. I’ve made cards and tags but haven’t embellished them yet. I’ve coffee dyed some pages and doilies. Doing more tomorrow (thank you so much). I have material for ruffles. And I have a few personal elements to go in this journal I’m making for my friend. I have so much in my mind and in front of me. I don’t know where to begin. Question: Is there an order to putting together your journal? Put the signatures together first? Make your cover first? Make all your ephemera first? Where do I begin? Also, I want to sew on my pages. How do I decide which pages to sew on? Do I sew on every page before putting it in the signature? Or pull out a few after my signatures have been stacked together? Lol. Ok. There’s your first 5 Podcasts. And can you guys just all come live at my house for about a week and hold my hand while I make my first journal? Lol. Okay. That’s my 3rd book on this video comment section tonight. Lol Thank you!!

@@1771bubba I just finished my first! It was crazy and a little frustrating. I am now starting my second one. This is the plan: I made my cover but did not decorate it. I made my signatures but I will not tie them in until after they are decorated. (I don't sew I tie mine in but I believe you would put them all together perfectly just how you want them and then sew them in). I have made most of my pockets and embellishments. Have pictures printed that I want to do in it. And a themed decided. Tags made but not all decorated. All ribbons, stickers, pictures, beads and embellishments, paper that match the theme in gallon size bags. I feel like if I'm organized like that when I sit down and start decorating it just starts flowing and then I don't have to stop once the creativity gets going I just can mostly pull from the bags of already made stuff. Hope this helps from another newbie.

@@weallhaveanopinion it really does help! Thank you. All of my KZfaq inspirations make it look so easy. Part of my frustration is that I use to be a Scrapbooker. I have a billion supplies.... all out in storage. I live in a tiny house, I became disabled with a back injury about 5 years ago. But it steadily got worse. So I’ve retired. We are in the process of opening up my tiny house. Removing all the interior wall except for the bathroom/closet wall. But everything is stored away. So I’m having the issue of knowing I have the perfect item... in a box. So I’m trying to make this and trying to be happy with what I’ve come up with (serious Junk Journaling going on)! Lol. I dyed my 3rd batch of papers last night. I’m in the process of drying them now. They’re in a Rubbermade tote type of thing (little bigger than paper size). I remove 4 at a time. That’s my drying space. I flip the stack over in between, removing some, flip the stack. Etc. I have also been putting some on my daughters baking/cooling rack. These papers have doilies, gold shimmers and now a faint grid pattern in the background (just a few though). I’m having a blast so I guess that’s what matters. Thanks for your suggestions. I’m gonna put some of my things in gallon bags. Get more organized. Lol

I always explain the history behind them. That during the war girls didn't have paper to buy or money to buy it with anyway so they used magazines and newspapers and whatever was "junk". Mine always have lined paper about every three pages and always have lots of photos so mine always end up being more like a photo album where you can write your thoughts about the photos once you received it if that makes sense?

Regarding possible questions, I may be repeating what others have suggested but I didn’t go through all the comments to check. You hyped and teased this video for what seemed like forever, and it did not disappoint!! (Except for the waiting part. I'm not extremely patient 🤭). I've used baking spices (cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg) sprinkled on my wet paper when coffee dyeing. They create brown "age spots" (technical term is foxing) that some old papers and books have. Very cool effect. So excited for your podcast! My questions would be: How do you start? I know people say just DO it, it's just paper and stuff, but I have so many ideas that I have a paralysis when it comes to actually STARTING my first one. And how do you overcome the problem of too many choices for things? Lastly, how do you mentally prepare yourself for the possiblity of giving a very special journal to someone important to you, and they don't get it and aren't impressed (or how do you console yourself after)? Thank you for all you do for us 💙

Since you make your own papers and ephemera some would say this isn't a junk journal (not me 😉). My question to you is "is there a difference? ". If yes, what is it? If no, why not? 🥰💙💙💙

One more comment. Love how you "play with what you have." I found some lemon zinger herbal tea bags way at the back of the cupboard and thought, "Why not?" Gorgeous yellow tint and then I threw on some left over avacado dye. Wow. Looks like sherbet.

Thank you so much for this video!!! Love love love the results!!! Just what I wanted to watch. I was so excited a couple of days ago when you replied that this was coming out on Friday!!!! My question: how do you decide on a theme?? Do you start with a design on a digi or with some ephemera or with a colour or....... So many ways but I constantly get stuck, then I go blank and don't know how to get from mindlessly staring at the wall to actually being able to make something lovely. Between you Joi and Tina, you make amazing art!!! Can't wait for your podcast. 💕💕

Questions: 1. What about acids in dyeing papers? I’ve heard writing ink fades in 10 to 20 years. 2. How do you store your dyed paper? 3. Do you dye paper with Red cabbage and/or avocado and/or onions skin? How long do you boil each before using?

I would like to know where do you source your materials, such as book pages, fabrics, ephemera and websites you use. Also, how do you explain junk journaling? I tried to explain it to a friend and she looked at me like I had two heads!! Thirdly, name top five “tools” such as websites, specific books, collections, paints and/or inks - you cannot live without. And finally why do you create junk journals? Curious minds want to know! :)

That sound excites me!!! Love the colors. Thank you for all the ideas. So far I have used all kinds of doilies. Did not think about using dies. I pick up place mats to use as stencils. Love to watch the beautiful papers you make. Thank you for sharing. That is really exciting. Can't wait to have you three together. My question would be about paper. Congratulations on such beautiful results! Very inspiring...the salt crystals make such a beautiful effect, thank you for sharing this technique with us. I have a question. How archival is the paper once coffee and salt have soaked into it. Perhaps this could also be a discussion point in a podcast...if junk journals are about storing and making memories, how important is it to create archival quality journals? Love what you do💕

So lovely! Pam(Paper Outpost) lays a fresh sheet of paper on top of the sprayed/spritzed papers when they're wet - you get a 'reverse' image. Would work best with the flat stencils rather than the dies.

Using dies as masks is such a good idea! Perhaps the smooth side down (more intricate side up) would give crisper images since it would lay flat against the paper. Would be fun to experiment with dies and die cuts.

There are two questions actually....one would be the business end of it....how y'all got started and where would we begin....such as...HOW DOES ETSY WORK EXACTLY? ALSO... HOW DOES A BEGINNER GET ANYONE OF YOUR DIGITALS WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO A PRINTER? I GET ASKED THOSE QUESTIONS A LOT AND I HAVE NO ANSWERS... Actually I would like to know myself... I watch all of you and I am inspired by y'all every time I watch. Thank you for sharing your talents....all of you are so talented and make the most beautiful things. If you take a hot melt glue gun, you can make “reverse stencils” to use in this project. Just draw with the glue gun over a piece of parchment so it will come off, a slipat would work as well.
