This type of quilt was first made by Maggie Lowry Locklear in the late 1800's and named the Lombee Pinecone Patchwork quilt insired by the lumbee pines.

The quilts are beautiful. But, like you, I would like to do them on my machine. LOL

I remember going to a few quilting bees when I was pretty little. Those women would be putting a whole quilt together in one afternoon. All by hand. With plenty of gossip going around 😊
