The good ol Italian tune up does wonders. My work car I bought used at 97500 miles, never ran completely smooth, so the 3rd day I had it, I turned onto a road that is long, wide, and flat and no houses, put that pedal to rug and let that “big 1.8 liter” open its lungs, amazing how much better it ran after, did it a couple more times on that road and it’s been fine since, but I also use full pedal travel when passing, and don’t Sunday drive it. Lol. Same went with my parents 2017 Cruze 1.4 turbo. Thing ran like a turd with 32k on it, my parents baby the car like it’s an egg, first time I stood on the gas taking it to the dealer because the engine light was on, it was rolling coal like a diesel at first, it basically was completely plugged with carbon

You could check the vacuum at the dipstick tube on that 5 cylinder to check for crankcase pressure. There is a complex PCV system on that car that clogs up and causes intermittent fuel trim codes

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics sorry, Ivan. It was just my first knee-jerk response since it’s cold outside and has a turbo setup. Boost leaks can come and go with heat, letting in unmetered air when cold. After not seeing a boost performance code I kind of gave up on that theory but I’m not familiar with Volvo boost systems. Would need to research a little more.

Good call on the first Volvo. Those PCV systems always fail spectacularly. Obviously need to change the oil a little more often. But on the 2nd Volvo though, did you have a good look at the turbo boost hoses? Particularly, the hose near the engine oil dipstick seem to blow out just above the alternator.

I had a car with a Volvo engine which had a burst diaphragm. The fix for 95% of shops would be straight away an oil filter housing as that part isn't sold by Volvo or Ford separately. it was somewhere around £500 just in parts. I fixed it for the £14 diaphragm bought off ebay. Worked like a charm until I sold the car. Mine was no where near as easy to get to as the one on that Volvo, 100% he could just buy it separately and save a bunch of money.

The 5 cylinder 2.5 engines can't be driven like Ms daisy behind the wheel. They are a performance engine and need to be driven properly. We have the Ford Focus ST 2 which has the same engine. Police also use that engine in their Volvo cars although a little bit more spiced up. Main issues are cylinder liners cracking, oil filetr housing leaks and it houses the PCV which is known to fail. Updated oil filter housing P/N is 31338685

Wow, a day in the life of a mobile diagnostician. I often like to look on Rockauto during videos like these, to see how available and expensive parts are for these various cars that we see. RA had the PCV diaphragm assembly only, for that 2010 XC90 6 cylinder. The cost was < $ 25, but it is a Dorman part. At that price and ease of swapping it in, if only it was ABD - anything but Dorman.

Ivan, could i ask a small favour ?. The next time you hook up your thinktool , could you have a look at European software and under vauxhall/opel look to see if it covers the 2021/22 Corsa F and Mokka. I'm thinking of buying one these scanners , but I'm getting conflicting information as to whether it covers these models or not. I had a look at Topdon , it lists the Corsa F , but the box for it is shaded out. These are new models released after GM sold off to the PSA group , they are less than 3 years old , so i just dont know if after market software is available yet. Regards Joe

Also with the right tools and specifically in ECU options should be able to do various resets and relearns, I seen all kinds of relearn/reset options on my 2011 XC70’s ECU including one I don’t fully understand, something like “delete factory adaption data” was buried in there.
