Ping G430 MAX Driver Forgiveness Test where we look at the NEW offering from Ping in the G430 Driver Range. The MAX is the most forgiving of the 3 models releasing, and has been the market leader for Forgiveness ratings for as long as I can remember. Now Ping are experimenting with coming away from its winning design by chasing a little more club head speed. Does this or shall I say will this change in design cost them the Most Forgiving Driver in Golf crown?? Lets find out.

The faster you swing the more the head drops and flattens out. Definitely the best club reviews on KZfaq. No one goes into this detail with ball and club data, especially with mishits. Definitely lower background music in this one compared to your SFT review. Love the better sound of the G430, like I commented on your SFT review, next year I’ll be comparing my 2016 M2 to G430 max or LST to TSR2 and Callaway Paradym

I don’t think anyone out there does reviews as thoroughly as you do. Absolutely excellent and much appreciated 🙏🙏🙏 As far as the lie angle difference in the two different swings speeds I’d have to guess it has to do with the amount of shaft deflection at those 2 speeds 🤷🏻‍♂️

My 16 yr old son just took his B Day money with some he had saved up and picked up a PING G430 Max with a PING Tour 2.0 Chrome stuff shaft. So far he absolutely loves it. He’s only played 2 rounds with it so far but it has drastically helped him off the tee. He’s a little trouble hitting a fade. Moving the weight to the Draw position it has driving the ball consistently straight! I had done a ton of research and felt confident this would be the best driver currently offered for him.

Great review and detail again. However, I do have one comment and one question! Firstly, 90 mph swing speed is more towards average rather than slow (based on Arccos accumulated data). Then, my question is what is the optimal launch angle and spin rate for 90 mph swing? This review was for 9 degree loft setting, giving less than 2,000 spin, so launch angle and spin possibly too low for optimum?
@stevedietrich8936

@@zazhou I live in this speed range so I can tell you what I've been told, which is 14 to 16 degrees and around 2400-2600 spin. It's been a pretty constant answer regardless of which fitter I've spoken to.

@@stevedietrich8936 thanks for the feedback. What loft setting and angle of attack do you use to achieve this?
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, very much depends on your dynamic loft tenancies but the standard 10 to 11 degrees hitting up by a few degrees would give you ball park best. The reason for doing everything at the sane loft was so people could gain an idea of how the heads react and then also at different speeds. Then it wouldn't be difficult for golfers to see what they'd need to change say loft to, to gain further distance advantage 👍

100% correct 👍 Unfortunately I'm not really shaft sensitive so tend to deliver the same regardless of what shaft I use. I normally see a difference in lie but due to the lack of loft and ball on a tee, I don't actually see any flight changes with shafts 👍

What launch spin and land angle you reckon you'd post with a 9° head with one of the 65 tour shafts so doesn't droop as much. If still went left could flatten lie angle out to 55.5 ? Overall thought process is how to make the max low spin at your speeds so you can have your cake and eat it. Forgiveness, length and no toey dippers that might get with the LST version.

Great review, as always Jay Btw shame Quad doesn't actually calculate exact distance of mishits from centre point. It's a very easy calculation, just using Pythagorean theorem. Maybe in the next upgrade
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
It does measure exact strike point but it can't see or understand roll and bulge. Every manufacturer has a differing amount the face is distorted so every face would have to be mapped into quad or they released GC5 that had the option to cover the face with dots and therefore give the possibility of measuring what face/loft angle was present at the strike point impact 👍

You need to apply the pythagorean theorem to get the total distance from center. The 2 numbers: across and down for example, form a triangle and the distance to the center is the hypotenuse. The two numbers aren’t additive.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
Hi Derek, from a trigonometric point of view you are absolutely right, if referencing the hypotenuse was a direct correlation to the amount of efficiency drop off, however because both the vertical and horizontal miss compound together then actually working in pure gross numbers works much much better. Using hypotenuse doesn't show up the huge drop off in efficiency with only a relatively small increase in hypotenuse length. So after many months of experimenting and gaining miss hit data I made the determination many years ago that gross deviation is the only really way to show the drop off variance. Appreciate the comment and for the thought pattern in trying to give constructive feedback. Its comments like this that are done in a respectful way that if used correctly by the content creator, can greatly improve the viewing experience 👍👍

Any and all of those will work depending on how you deliver the club individually with each. They all, have certain differences, most of them come in different models to cater for as many golfers as possible and all cost a lot of money, some more than others. Forgiveness is key to understanding your general performance on the course so as a blind guess you'd never be too fair wrong going with a Ping. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

Picked up a g430 Max this week and went for the 10.5 deg knocked down to 9 deg loft, instead of the 9 deg head. That was because I like to see an open face at set up and it performed better too. This club is a cheat code folks, it’s ridiculous how forgiving it is, and, here’s the rub, I reckon the confidence that breeds in you means that you will start to swing longer and faster anyway. Thus tests like this - excellent review again sir - only tell part of the picture. I played my first competitive winter matchplay with it yesterday and on the 15th carried it 262 yards. I knew this because it was still by it’s pitchmark. That was at 9 deg celcius and layered up. I reckon that converts to 270 in the summer and this means it’s up with my TSi3 but it’s miles more forgiving - so I’ll take the dry 5-10 yard loss in the simulator room, because over a season of golf I have to be gaining strokes. Unbelievable club.

Can you do a Stealth 2 vs G430 video. Forgiveness and shot shape with the head at standard loft/lie setting with the hotel adjustment. I’m looking to get a new driver. I want the most forgiving driver but do not want a head that goes left. Watching a few videos…seems the G430 is draw biased but the Stealth 2 is pretty neutral in flight.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 10 ай бұрын
Hi Patrick. If forgiveness is top of your list of requirements then G430 will offer that over the Stealth 2. You have adjustment on the head in terms of the weight system to return it more neutral, also there is adjustability on the hozel in flat settings that can further counter any potential draw bias. If forgiveness is first and foremost then the G430 is the most forgiving driver on the market 👍🏻 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻

@@AskGolfNut thank you…My also concerned that to take the 10.5 head and turn it down to protect from the left…that I reduce spin too much and it falls out of the sky. I only swing about 100-105 on a good day. I need loft but need to retain spin on mishits. So was looking for a nuetral flighted head with relatively good, consistent spin in the 2000-2500 range. Not fall below 2000 on mishits. Ping seems to fit the bill…just worried about over drawing it. I was also looking at your review of the Callaway Paradym. Seems nuetral to fade bias and pretty good across the face as well. What are your thoughts between the paradigm and ping g430? I’d rather miss right with a spinny cut then turn one over left and short and running….know what I mean.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 10 ай бұрын
@patrickhoward4080 you could opt for the fade settings on the opposite side of the loft sleeve that, would bring it more neutral. If its forgiveness no 1 on the list then you'll struggle to top the G430 👍🏻

@home4ya465 unless I'm getting the wrong end of the stick, the G400 Max was as close to Neutral as Ping had at the time with the SFT being draw biased and the LST slightly fade biased. The G400 Max is still one of the most forgiving drivers of all time and only slightly lags behind the most modern day offering. If you are looking for forgiveness with as neutral as possible bias then the G400 Max is absolutely fine. If the flight isn't to your liking I would think that it would be swing related rather than a distinctly poorly fitted head option 👍

Hi Dickie, I had it also to review, but honestly ran out of time. It's a very specific club, which I really need to do some work with as it promises potentially to be an interesting option to increase head speed, however there are clear possible issues with forgiveness going with a substantially lighter head. If a golfer is a good striker and suffers from lack of speed then it's an option. Also what comes with it, as the head speed increases due to the lower weighting, the shaft would need to be more substantial thus increasing shaft weight and therefore reducing the head speed potential. Its something that would have to be tested individually as there are a myriad of things that would need to be tested. 👍👍
