I've watched dozens, at least, reactions to this song and this wonderful young man here is the FIRST to actually pause and comment on the 2, possibly most profound lines ever put to music: "The child is grown. The dream is gone.". Those 2 lines express all the hurt and loss conveyed in this song, the entire album, life as a whole. I;'d hug you if I could. Thank you.
@YonatanZunger
@YonatanZunger 2 жыл бұрын
Thinking about it, these lines are really the heart of the whole album. It's the moment of actual revelation of the truth, in the madness- and drug-induced haze, that triggers the entire catharsis. The collapse of the wall at the end is symbolic, but this line is where the meat is. Gods, I love Pink Floyd. I've been listening to them since high school and they never get old, just more layered.

That whole verse; "When I was a child I caught a fleeing glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look, but it was gone I can not put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone" Will go down as a major poetic verse of the twentieth century

When this album came out I was going to a funeral & driving from NJ to NC . I got pulled over for speeding by a black State Trooper on I-95 in NC . He took my papers & went up to his car & told me to get in on the passenger side . He had this song playing on his cassette deck when I got in . And without thinking I sang along with the chorus 🎼 I have become comfortably numb 🎶. I caught myself & turned to look at him , he was staring at me . He gave me my paperwork back & told me to have a good day & slow down . Seeing this young black guy enjoy Floyd brought me right back to that moment .

Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Pink Floyd. Its classified as psychedelic/acid or experimental Rock. What is so amazing is, this band was formed in 1965...! They were so far ahead of their time that they sound just as good now as back then. The best way to experience them, which I would recommend with Comfortably Numb now, is dim the lights, have a beverage of choice, put the headphones on, turn it up and let it take you to your happy place. The Pluse concert live with this song and any others is truly mind blowing. So much better live. Time Shine on you crazy diamond The great gig in the sky Wish you were here So many more.. Sounds like you've been properly Floyded. Pink Floyd features one of the greatest guitarist and one of the greatest lyricists in Rock history. Backed up by a keyboardist/synth player that'll make you forget what planet you're on. And a drummer that brings the drama, the heart, the soul, whatever you need. And vocals that are in a class by themselves. Literally no one else sounds like them. Check out "Time" by them next, from one of the biggest selling albums of all time 'Dark Side of the Moon'. (And yes.. that is parts of a symphonic orchestra in the background of Comfortably Numb).

Pink Floyd is a very, very special Rock Band, they are a Vibe all on their own. Pink Floyd's Spacey sound is mesmerizing, people have actually said they had an out of body experience! I'm not kidding. The listener is moved by Pink Floyds music, they take you on a cerebral Journy so to speak. A big part of that is David Gilmours' guitar playing. I've been a PF fan since 1973 when they released their "Dark Side of the Moon" album, I was 17. I was fortunate enough to get tickets too see them on their The Wall world Tour in 1980. That was the most incredible Show I've ever seen, to call it a concert does it a disservice. Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1964, today they have sold over 400 million, (and counting), albums worldwide. Only the Beatles have sold more albums, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin go back and forth for second place. The original band consisted of Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Rick Wright, Syd Barrett had to leave the band in 1967 for mental health and drug issues, David Gilmour, took over for Barrett in 1968, and is still active today! There's so much more to say but this is obviously not the venue to do so, so I;ll end with this. If you decide to go down this wonderful rabbit hole named Pink Floyd, you're in for a real treat! You will hear some of the most incredible music you'll ever hear for the rest of your life. You'll also SEE some of the most phenomenal live Rock performances of light and lazar shows you'll ever see

Btw, Gilmour's voice is almost as effective as his guitar in many a Floyd songs. His is the perfect voice to interpret Roger's dark introspective lyrics. I think the song "Wish You Were Here" is a perfect example. I've witnessed reactors moved to tears just based on his voice alone without even fully understanding the lyrics.

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.

Yes! Yes! Yes! That’s Pink Floyd..... especially the flustered attempt to find words to describe it! Floyd is amazing and I’m so stoked to see you listen to more! Animals is probably my favorite album but as I’m sure others have or will tell you, they tend to write concept albums that are intended to be listened to as an album rather than picking songs at random. Random is fine to start with though, especially for reactions but as you fall in love with their sound you can do whole albums. Loved your reaction to this one for sure! Hey You, Wish You Were Here, and Shine on You Crazy Diamond are all solid picks that can stand alone.

My Pink Floyd story: I was 8 or nine when my brother brought Dark Side of the Moon home, he would have been 12 or 13. The album had been out a couple of years by then. I remember being pissed with him for bringing home a band with a silly name like that. My brother dropped the needle on side two, the song "Money". My mother, older and younger brother listened and it was a music we had never heard, amazing. This is one of the very few happy memories I have with my family together. I grew up with Pink Floyd. The whole album (The Wall) is just one long journey seen through troubled eyes. Though not autobiographical, it borrows heavily from Roger Waters childhood. Dave Gilmour's outro guitar solo is arguably the best solo in the world but, as already commented, the Pulse (1994?) gig has the most amazing extended version which shows the masterful skill he employs on how to guitar solo WITH the band & not some Prima Donna one man show. Amazing. As you say, it's not really reaction material, even so well done & treat yourself to: The Wall.

great writers, bassist, guitarist, singers, drummer and the keyboard that made the pink Floyd sound. The 4 created something beyond music.

The first time Pink Floyd walked into a studio, a record exec handed them a giant book titled "The Correct Way to Make a Hit Rock Song." Pink Floyd opened the book, and flipped through several pages. They then snickered, tossed that book out the window, and proceeded to reinvent Rock music, from the ground up.

What you're feeling is David Gilmour grabbing your soul with his guitar. He can lift you up or tear your soul to pieces with one note. Few have such an enduring talent. 100 years from now a new generation of listeners will discover PF's talent because their music will live FOREVER!!!

Reason the beginning seems strange is the whole album flows from one song to the next. There's little things between the songs telling a larger story. It was made into a movie. Pink Floyd albums can be like that, Dark Side of the Moon is seemless in that, flowing one song after another through the whole album. This one, the Wall album, tells more of a specific story about a character, but Dark Side is more about universal subjects of life, death, etc.

The Wall is probably the best concept album ever made. As such doing the song's as reactions isn't ideal. Eventually you'll want to.listen to to he whole album in order. One of the things that makes it the best concept album, is they didn't just make videos they made whole movie, and that's probably the best way to experience it. I'd react to Another Brick in the Wall first at least, maybe Run Like Hell and Dirty Woman too. Great reaction! (What you're hearing is a full symphony with the full band and great early use of synthesizer. Also probably the ultimate lyrical content of Roger Waters, lead singer. I believe the album was inspired by the band's original lead singer Syd Barrett who literally lost his mind)

Partially, but greatly by Roger Waters himself. His father died in WWII (A member of the Royal Fusiliers Company C) and that void is one of many “bricks in the wall”. So it’s partly autobiographical, party an homage of sorts to Syd, and partially fictionally embellished.

I always liked to listen to them in the dark. A lot of other older bands as well. I find reducing using my eyes, enhances my ears. You are the first one to say,that I have heard, that this is not a good reaction song and I feel the same way. Try listening to a PF album in it's entirety, in one sitting/laying. In my opinion PF is best savored full album, any, rather than just a little taste. In the dark of course😎👍. You are doing a very nice job🙌💯

Welcome to British music, this is what we grow up with, it’s in our bones 😆🤣😁 Enjoy the journey, you’re going to love it. Your first reaction post I watched was Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, that was fantastic. It’s been an absolute joy to see the moment each song hits you, so I had to subscribe. If you’ve not listened yet then I highly recommend you try some tracks from Genesis and Muse ❤️

When I saw you close your eyes I thought "This guy gets it". When you commented about the bright lights, you confirmed it. Man, to properly experience Pink floyd: relax (e.g. stretch out), avoid distractions (no noise, phones or visitors), dim lights and close your eyes. Let the music take you wherever it does. Enjoy. Want a longer PF trip? Try "Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 1-5" from their "Wish You Were Here" album.

every pink floyd record is more than a song , its a journey of the soul to heights unknown before the voice the words that guide , the instruments that lay the path , together forming the way to discovery for each soul that is blessed to hear their work that i know will be heard for the decades and centuries yet to unfold for as long as the human race is in existence

I have a theory on why it "feels" When playing Dave Gilmour uses "bends" of up to 5 semi-tones (BTW that's hard), instead of just "plucking" a higher note. I think this gives your brain time to follow the smooth change in pitch like a ramp as apposed to a staircase. His playing is analogue not digital and I think our brains just love to ride the wave man😉😎

As most of Pink Floyd albums, you must listen to them entirely... This song comes from the wall, also a movie with no pause. It's the same for other albums like The Dark Side Of The Moon. You really should react to the Pulse version of that track, in 1994, but without stopping the song, especially the guitar solo, that's so wonderful... I saw that concert, I'll never forget that moment of my life. Just enjoy the best band of the world. Love from France 🇫🇷😘
