As a guitarist myself, I rank David Gilmour in the top five...fantastic player; tasteful, inventive, and soulful.

I was very humbled while watching this. I feel as though I'm not looking at the man David Gilmour. I feel as though I'm looking at a God, in the form of David Gilmour. Whenever I hear a riff of his, I think to myself, "This is not a man who learned an instrument to make money, or gain fame. This is a man who speaks through his riffs." Each and every one of them strikes me in the deepest part of my soul, and I will never forget any of them, no matter how long I live or go without hearing one. One of the greatest human beings the world has known thus far, IMHO.

I find David Gilmour as one of the best musicians from the then and now. He's very deep. A true perfectionist in every sense. To spend time listening to him create something would be so interesting. I would love to here him just doodle around ( for lack of ). He never doodles, that, I'm quite sure with the talent he has.

Pink floyd is a amazing band even today...

British music is the best, the greatest rock acts. It has this special quality to it, so so much better than American rock in my mind. I'm not from either countries by the way. Pink Floyd must be the essence of all things music. When everything that's right about music comes together we get Pink Floyd.

Paul Rappaport is good at any kind of interview. I mean, he could manage to get you excited interviewing a janitor.

David Gilmour is one of my all time favorite guitar players. What I really enjoy about David’s guitar playing is not just how wonderful it sounds, but how he is always relaxed, and makes it seem so easy. What I also admire about David is his personality. I really love how he doesn’t let ego get to his head and isn’t an asshole to everybody. I hope to see this man in concert before he is gone or officially done with music.

I've seen them live, in Houston. What a treat.

There is an almost earthbound mellifluous nature to his playing that simply doesn't tax your nature in any way. It is almost too pure. Some time ago, many glasses emptied one late night with a couple players and an engineer friend we had an extended conversation of odd duos we thought would work. The longest section we laughed and pondered was Gilmore and McCartney. Consider the possibles.

"Not knowing what the fuck we were doing..." Probably the best response to how you create another album after so much success. Note it. Noted.

This is an interesting interview. Although, it saddens my heart to know the harsh reality of the loss of Roger Keith (a.k.a. "Syd") Barrett, Richard William (a.k.a. "Rick") Wright, Peter Martin Christopherson & Storm Elvin Thorgerson (the latter two, formerly of the Hipgnosis collective). I usually get a creepy feeling when I first hear an interviewer begin asking questions or fishing for a response from one (David Gilmour) - how can mere words even convey an intelligent exchange with a man as deep and great as Gilmour ? DG seems to be a perfect manifestation of other worldly intelligence and power tempered by humility and wisdom !

Perspective is crazy. An interviewer thinks they felt the magic and the coming impact of Dark Side, while David saw it as he and his friends working hard and making tunes they all liked. Great way to humble someone. I sure am.

I LOVE David Gilmour and have mixed feelings about Roger Waters. But, it irks me to hear people, even David Gilmour, say Richard Wright was under appreciated in Pink Floyd. Anyone paying attention to the music, especially early on, but also in the famous stage, gets how central he was to the entire greatness of the music. Roger Waters lost sight of this when he fired Richard during the recording of The Wall. Kudos to David Gilmour and Nick Mason for bringing him back when they got the chance. Pink Floyd was/is awesome due to the incredible sum of all four members. Even the Roger Waters driven concept albums later on would not have been the same as a solo album from him. Can you imagine Shine On without Gilmour playing guitar? Ridiculous to think it would have been the same/as good. I say Shine On and you think: ber der der dar. Those four notes that Gilmour contributed. The Final Cut was essentially a Roger Waters solo album and is a snooze fest and his solo work is uninspiring to most, while David Gilmour's led Pink Floyd was enormously successful as is his solo work---though, certainly not the same as when they had Roger's brain with them. But, still pretty fucking good. Makes me think of Johnny Marr thinking he'd be OK without Morrissey. The joke was on him as it was in large part on Roger, and in some ways, though less so, than John Lennon vs Paul McCartney.

David shows his musical knowledge here when he was talking about the high strung guitar. Where he says that the E on a regular guitar is very low and gets in the way of a D chord, but on the high strung guitar because the E is much higher than the D chord it "just sounds like a 9th pinging away". Anyone who knows music theory knows that in a D major chord that C is the 7th and E is the 9th.

Don't listen to that part of yourself that says "I'll never be able to ...." And for God's sakes, don't do it over David Gilmour! Gilmour's playing is actually very learnable. It's not like speed metal. You don't have to practice rapid scales, or sweep-picking, all that tricky shit. It's more important to find your own voice, than to do a flawless Gilmour imitation. What would you do if you could imitate him perfectly, anyway? Join a Pink-Floyd-cover band? We have plenty of those already.
