These three main songs from the Pink Floyd "Animals" album got lost in the shuffle over time because they were too long to be played on the radio so the got very little air time if at all but still hold up today as some of their best work. I only whish we could have head Gilmore's complete guitar playing at the end because he doesn't stop even after the last second of the song he's playing like a wildman.

Since your a Gilmour fan thought I’d mention that the beginning and middle bass parts, the ones with hammer ons and pull offs, was actually Gilmour playing the bass. I might piss off a couple people but Waters was a mediocre bassist, but a brilliant lyricist. Gilmour played some more difficult bass parts in a few recordings over the years. Guy Pratte who replaced him was much more proficient.

Pigs is more about big fat greedy businessmen than politicians. Look up the picture with the pig looking down on the factory. There's a version of this song with a cartoon video that makes this point quite clear.

Yeah, it is a bit funky, in large part because David Gilmour plays all the guitar parts of which there are many, and he plays the fretless bass on this track as well. Lyrics: verse 1 about a general politician, verse 2 is specifically about Maggie Thatcher, verse 3 is about Mary Whitehouse a very conservative moral activist from back then.

I always thought that 'pigs' was a reference to the police and not politicians. Maybe it's both here, but he does talk about guns in these lyrics. Maybe Waters is talking about both the police AND politicians as the 'establishment'. Mary Whitehouse was the so called moral watchdog of the nation at the time and vigorously campaigned against sex and sexual references in the media. Being a staunch Roman Catholic, she was very much against sex before marriage and wasn't afraid of expounding these messages to the nation. Waters obviously considered that she was a right pain in the arse, hence his cynicism towards her in this song!
