Some background :
The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, released on 1 March 1973
The Dark Side of the Moon received critical acclaim upon release, and has since been hailed by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time
Following Meddle in 1971, Pink Floyd assembled for a tour of Britain, Japan and the United States in December of that year. In a band meeting at drummer Nick Mason's home in Camden, bassist Roger Waters proposed that a new album could form part of the tour. Waters' idea was for an album that dealt with things that "make people mad", focusing on the pressures faced by the band during their arduous lifestyle, and dealing with the apparent mental problems suffered by former band member Syd Barrett
All four members agreed that Waters' album concept unified by a single theme was a good idea. Waters, Gilmour, Mason and keyboardist Richard Wright participated in the writing and production of the new material, and Waters created the early demo tracks at his Islington home in a small studio built in his garden shed. Parts of the new album were taken from previously unused material; the opening line of "Breathe" came from an earlier work by Waters and Ron Geesin, written for the soundtrack of The Body, and the basic structure of "Us and Them" borrowed from an original composition by Wright for Zabriskie Point.
The band rehearsed at a warehouse in London owned by the Rolling Stones, and then at the Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park, London. They also purchased extra equipment, which included new speakers, a PA system, a 28-track mixing desk with a four channel quadraphonic output, and a custom-built lighting rig. Nine tonnes of kit was transported in three lorries; this would be the first time the band had taken an entire album on tour.
The album had been given the provisional title of Dark Side of the Moon (an allusion to lunacy, rather than astronomy). However, after discovering that that title had already been used by another band, Medicine Head, it was temporarily changed to Eclipse. The new material premiered at The Dome in Brighton, on 20 January 1972, and after the commercial failure of Medicine Head's album the title was changed back to the band's original preference The Dark Side of The Moon

@@zorroastor2765 Not sure who you are asking, but I'm 68, so I guess you could say I was around. I was playing Dark Side of the Moon, on vinyl sometime in the summer of 73, when my mom (41) walks in and says who's that, she was an instant fan. My daughter was born June 10th 1980, and I had the Wall on vinyl. I worked the 3rd shift, midnight to eight, and would come home and lay on the floor with my newborn and we would chill out to Pink Floyd. I don't have to tell who my daughter's favorite band is, do I?

@@stevefrenchize Thanks dude. Music is great medication by itself, several Dr's prescribed the full spectrum CBDs which goes well together most days to at least lighten my spirits, reliving some really good times in my younger years. Doing it day by day now - a lot of lost time in the last 30 yrs trying to figure out why I did not feel well - a small area of cancer in a bad space took me out. Mentally feeling well, physically another matter as the collateral damage is irreversible. Currently getting new exoskeleton fitted to compensate for the structural damage to the endoskeleton - ie getting full leg braces both legs - kind of like the polio braces of day old. Simple personal mobility is the next goal, sitting in a chair most of waking hours is driving me crazy. Sometimes I actually forget I need leg braces and stand up and try to take a step, then quickly reminded why that's not a practical thing to do. Great to see great music lovers, lovin great music. Stay safe and keep your family safe as we head into maybe the worst 6 months of the CV19 spread. And make sure to vote - YOUR VOTE = YOUR VOICE. Only one chance to voice your opinion this year on or before Nov 3 2020.

I recently had a heart attack, two days later when my heart surgeon performed heart catheterization I requested that he play Comfortably Numb while putting me out for the procedure. N that they play Pink Floyd while cleaning out my Three blocked arteries. The catheterization n 3stents later, no damages from the heart attack. I figured if while that wire was in my chest should something go wrong I would already be in heaven whilst listening to the music that soothes the soul, heart n brain. Thanks to Pink Floyd for seeing me thru some of the scariest moments of my life.

A few years later, I was born. 41 years later, I gave birth to my beloved Abbey, named after the (album also) studio it was recorded at. Ah, circle of life?

Watching this in August of 2020! They are absolutely brilliant, in the 70's, 80's 90's. 2000's, 2010's and hopefully there will be another live performance in the 2020's! They are so tight and so amazing! David Gilmour's voice is still so clear and the ravages of time has not affected his voice or his talent! Thank you for being such a HUGE part of the soundtrack of my life since I was just a little boy. I'm now in my 50's. I have been in amazement over you for 40+ years! Please tour again soon!

How I miss performing...that feeling of being untouchable. When I was behind a kit, I was invincible. Laying cable, setting up, the sounds and excitement...being swept up in rapt bliss as the music you play swells your soul and fills your heart...watching faces and people change and soften. People forget problems when watching and listening to talented musicians. Music joins even enemies...

Počúval som vašu skvelú muziku na kotúčovom magnetofóne a vôbec mi nevadilo,že to je možno aj štyridsiata kópia. Teraz som už dôchodca a stále ste moja jednotka. Vďaka terajším technológiám si to konečne užívam a vychutnávam v plnej miere. Prajem všetkým veľa,veľa ZDRAVIA. (:

Brain Damage"/"Eclipse" 00:37:22 Some background : The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, released on 1 March 1973 The Dark Side of the Moon received critical acclaim upon release, and has since been hailed by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time Following Meddle in 1971, Pink Floyd assembled for a tour of Britain, Japan and the United States in December of that year. In a band meeting at drummer Nick Mason's home in Camden, bassist Roger Waters proposed that a new album could form part of the tour. Waters' idea was for an album that dealt with things that "make people mad", focusing on the pressures faced by the band during their arduous lifestyle, and dealing with the apparent mental problems suffered by former band member Syd Barrett All four members agreed that Waters' album concept unified by a single theme was a good idea. The new material premiered at The Dome in Brighton, on 20 January 1972, and after the commercial failure of Medicine Head's album the title was changed back to the band's original preference The Dark Side of The Moon Enjoy ...

My daughter was born on June 10th 1980, and we would listen to it and the Wall for hours. Her fav. band today....Pink Floyd. And I was listening to the Dark Side of the Moon, when I was taking my mom shopping and she asked me, "who is that." When I told her she said wow, they are awesome. My mom was 48 at the time. What my point? Pink Floyd will span generations to come. Some will tell you that other bands don't want to make that kind of music, because they can't. Aussie Floyd was close.

I saw them in concert in NC in 1988 with my Stepfather. Never been another "experience" like this ever since then. I'm listening to PF with my 23 son and friends now. They are diggin' it. God I wish I was high!

You know I tend to agree but what I would give to be able to the Zepplin show in 75 which was my first concert. Skynyrd just a few months before the crash, and deep Purple any time the original group was together. They were so fucking loud. Maybe Humble Pie as well in 75. Or any of the stadium shows in the mid to late 70s where there is virtually nothing that would indicate they ever happened on film. My buddies in a great little band called Point Blank were incredible but there is virtually no video of them anywhere from the 70s. .Phones would have allowed someone other than the midnight special archives to show us what rock was back in the day, but I agree, no one watches shows any more they take them home with them and that's why crowds are dead these days.

From 1966 to 1970, Pink Floyd used a wider variety of sounds than likely any other band. In 1971 they figured out how to separate (and use only) the sounds that the human body feels. This is why almost all PF tunes from 71-79 take souls for a ride, like a beautiful drug.
