My brother and I used to talk about Pink Floyd all the time, and then low and behold the band came to Sacramento, California in April 1988. I made sure and bought him a ticket. There were 27,000 fans at Hughes Stadium. At one point, during 'Comfortably Numb' there were so many people holding up their lighters, it drowned out the stage lights. I've never seen that before. The whole stadium sang along. It can't be put into words, but I've never felt so much Love in one place. I looked over at my brother, he reached out for my hand and gave me a nod as if to say, "we made it, little bro". He passed away in 2002, which makes this quite heartfelt.

Oh boy, I miss the dude. As we keep mesmerized by the Gilmour VS Waters pickle at the same time, we can`t get enough of them singing together (Run Like Hell, Not Now John, Young Lust, Grantcherster, Pigs, etc.), really amazing. But... and it`s a big but: Pink Floyd was already a great band with great definitive classics when most leads were Syd Barret and Rick Wright, my favorites are See Emily Play, Arnold Layne, Point me at the Sky, Lucifer Sam, Matilda Mother, Remember a Day, JugbandBlues. Also, all Rick's vocals on Obscured and Meddle are just iconic.

People always say "wow, the final cut sucks" or "man, the endless river is bad" or even "the division bell is the worst album". I say none are the worst, they're all very good and have their own respective amazing qualities. Don't spend all your time dissecting and picking at the faults, just be glad you have it. Well, I think that everybody has their own right to like or to dislike whatever he/she wants to, or not? I don't like this album, I came here to listen to it, but I don't like it. It is just my taste. I don't like Madonna, Frank Sinatra, Snoop dog...It doesn't mean that is bad music, it is only that everybody has differemt sensibilities. This album for me sounds like film music, like the background music of something else, I am just not into that, but it doesn't mean that it is bad music.

@@pluso nice comment, pluso. I hate,Rush, The Who, Foreigner and a few other, top notch groups. I love, Gary Numan, Sabbath, ACDC and everything that pinkfloyd has ever done, but by no means are the other groups lacking. This will be forever one of my favourites from Pink Floyd. I was going by some ugly moments in my life but when I listened to this it changed me from the inside, I cried in the middle of the street because I was so overwhelmed with bad emotions and this album cleansed my soul for a moment. I don't care about the critics, this changed me.

All the critics of this album weren't true Pink Floyd fans it the problem. They wanted dark side of the moon 2.0. what we got was a true Pink Floyd fans wet dream - an hour and a half long journey with some of our favorite musicians exploring so many places and emotions all without a single word. This was the best album imo.

I really want to convey this message to the world and all Pink Floyd lovers. I was in the storm, I was in the wind, I was in the sun, I was in the rain.. I overcome all of the above and still my struggle is on going what I want to become in my life but one thing during the journey that never vanish or will ever vanish. That is the Pink Floyd songs. I found myself in this era of Floyd and everytime I break down and be in thoughtful what's gonna happen to my life.. I find God and Pink Floyd. Don't know if i ever able to meet David Gilmour but my love for this band is unconditional like mother love their children. Im not in any substances or in high mode while im typing these phrases but it's deep eternal feelings for Pink. Love you all and never lose hope in your life. Things will eventually come to you if you really utter from your soul.

Yes you're right! especially the ecstatic Money & Time and the album Atom Heart Mother. If you like that quality -Kelly Joe Phelps album's Beggar's Oil, or Shine Eyed Mister Zen is like that. He was a virtuoso and could play his songs 12 different ways depending on how he felt on the night, what you hear on the album is how he decided to play it 3 seconds before it was recorded.

There are so many bands and musicians, particularly guitarists, that I love and from whom I always receive so much when I listen to their art...but at least thus far in this bumbling fiftysomething's life, only David Gilmour can manage to move me to tears in just a few notes. Something about his way of expressing himself on those strings; I cannot explain it, but I am forever grateful to him for it. And Rick Wright. Wish I had the words. What a special talent.

I first saw Floyd at the UFO Club in '67, Soft Machine too, I was 15. Saw them many times between that moment and the incredible UK musical summer of 1970 and their performance at Bath. I've never thought of them as the greatest or most iconic band, that emotion has always felt unimportant, irrelevant. What they have done is indelibly mark moments shared with loved people, friends, feeling as one with a hundred and fifty thousand people. Perhaps this is their true beauty, I think of someone and a Floyd tune is instantly there completing the memory.

I was 11 years old when I first heard Pink Floyd at a friend´s house where my friend´s older brother played "The Wall". During the solo fo The Wall Pt. 2 I started to feel goosebumps. I felt as though I had heard this melody all my life in one of these dreams where you wake up but cannot remember what you dreamt but you know that something important and beautiful happened. Well, I was infected like some drug addict from that day on. I bought all albums, I saw them in Concert, and I think their music comes closest to what i feel in my soul. Everyone´s got a soul-music, something they can not only relate with but some sort of frequency which bursts right through the most infinintesimal parts of your body as though the music was made out of the same fabric which created the universe. That is Pink Floyd´s music... For me.

@@NewLifeFromTheWayofTruth yer mate I remember when I was about 18 & silly. I got on the weed and watched the wall on dvd off my chops & thought WTF is this about. I had to watch it 3 times and then the last time when I was straight, I finally figured it out. I missed the last Floyd concert that came to Oz & was guttered. But as soon as I heard Waters was playing (Us & Them concert) in Sydney, I brought a ticket for me and my 20 year old daughter, who only ever heard me play Floyd and she wasn't into them. After the concert, we walked out and she looked at me and said, Dad I felt like i was on drugs tonight. Lol. And now has heaps of Floyd songs in her iphone. Im glad she followed her dads footsteps with appreciating the music & not following him for the love of weed.. I can honestly say now at 54, I still enjoy Floyd as much as i did in my 20's, only straight now instead. The us & them concert didn't disappoint. All I wish for now is for Gilmour to do a sydney concert or him and Waters to lower their pride and do a farewell concert for all us old Floyd lovers to appreciate one more time. Shame they all arn't still alive. Anyway Mate, I glad you enjoy it as much as me and greetings from a covid riddon Oz...

That is actually exactly what this album is! It was made as a somber tribute and goodbye to the late Richard Wright, a founding member of Floyd who passed in 2008. They took some of the old unused work from The Division Bell sessions, added some new work, and crafted it into this album. All as a final goodbye to Wright.

I used to love Pink Floyd back in the early days then after Darkside of the Moon I turned off as I felt they were too commercial. Then 1.5 years ago I started playing guitar and my instructor taught me some Pink Floyd licks. I started listening again to the old vinyl and my appreciation started again. This album goes back to their roots and is amazing. (oh I was at their concert in Montreal June 1975) Still listening at 68!

@@garysnow1475 basically by commercial I felt the level of their music somewhat suffered during a certain period. I believe you can see this happen with many bands, and then later they seem to find themselves again they go back to their roots. Maybe it is pressure from the record companies to make $$ who knows. Or maybe it is the drive to stay relevant to changing audiences. Or maybe it is just my musical interests changed.. this is all just a personal observation.
@newusernamehere4772
@newusernamehere4772 Жыл бұрын
@@garysnow1475 No he's right, the band members have talked about it. As they (Roger) focused more on the vocals the instrumentals started to fall behind *slightly*, but the rest of the band pulled together. Notice how Dark Side didn't have any tracks that cracked 10 minutes. This is why I think the following two albums tried to make up for it with massive instrumentals before Roger sort of took over again and then left. Their biggest selling albums are objectively less technical and musically complex, the instrumentals are dumbed down on purpose This isn't unique to Pink Floyd either, the Grateful Dead had this happen too. I suspect corporate meddling.

Another of my favorite groups since 1971. I saw Dark Side Of The Moon in concert in April 1975 in Denver Colorado while in the Air Force. One ounce of marijuana was legal. Sat nine rows from the stage. A model airplane went down from the ceiling on a guidewire and crashed into the stage. At intermission lights came on and the marijuana smoke was so thick you couldn't see the stage. I had an out of the body experience. My first Rock Concert. It was AWESOME!

I did hear Floyd live in 1971 hear in the US. It was a monumental experience; esp given that I came from a moderate sized Indiana town where there were few rock concerts. In that sense, it really was quite special since mostly all we had were local bands. I think what is remarkable is the manner in which Floyd sustained their innovation through the decades. The music business is very cyclical and few bands, even if good, don't have longevity. I am just grateful that I was able to hear them live!!

I saw them in '94 at Carter Finnly Stadium in Raleigh. I feel lucky that I was able to see them. It was a check mark off my bucket list. Greatest show I've ever been to.

Ones a year we fly back from Philippines to Nederland, a 15-20 hours flight. The first thing I do is put on my headphones and select this album. After this I order a whiskey, no ise! And another another and another enjoying the music. It REALLY gets me there, WouW what a way to travel around the world ! Magnificent ! The t

I aways knew the other famous Pink Floyd's songs then I've started to listen to the others album's and this one is definetly beautiful. The last song made me a mix of goosegumps and a little taste of eternity through smooth melody. Great job they left to us, people of the future, so grateful. Masterpiece!

What a pleasant surprise! Thought I'd heard all the Floyd but this is new to me. Has the classic Floyd signature sound. I miss the early days, when I was teenager. I used to play Ummagumma and Saucerful of Secrets over and over again while getting way too high with my friends. Ha! Those were the days!

At the time of its release this album did not click with me. Since then I have ignored it subconsciously. Now I came across this video and gave it another chance. Boy am I glad I did. It seems I was not ready to appreciate this awesome work back then.

I can't get "SURFACING" out of my head... It's just haunting! I've always considered Pink Floyd to be my mentors; and, for decades I've tried to capture what their music did for me and project the same feeling to others in my paintings and sculptures. It's only now, years later, that I'm realizing that THAT'S an impossibility. Something like this CAN'T be "captured"! It's FAR TOO deep and TOO personal for each individual for that! It can only be experienced when it's experienced...loved by those who love it...and then let go to the past. Every person's passions are something that only THEY THEMSELVES can ever TRULY know. They can't be explained...they can't be expressed in words, images or music. It's quite literally a measure of each person's own "heart". Strictly for God and themselves ALONE! My work never really meant anything in-and-of-itself until I accepted this. "SURFACING" has me thinking of those in my past whose presence in my life is what helped FORM my life and, listening to that song...I'm in tears right now knowing I'll never see them again, the way they were IN THOSE YEARS. Time is a KILLER of dreams... This must be what it feels like to come out the other side of a dream... Just as alone now as when I first went in... There will NEVER be, and CAN NEVER be, another PINK FLOYD!!!!!
