Session", is an instrumental track. I did all the beats. Joe did all the scratching. Brad and I manipulated Joe's scratching on the computer. We used digital effects on it that basically make it impossible to play! It starts out as just this piano and this beat and then beat starts kind of disintegrate then the piano starts disintegrating then the guitar comes in. It's just this nice evolution of digital simplicity to complete chaos and two and a half minutes later, you've been thrown off a cliff."
In an interview with MusicOMH on August 3, 2005, Mike Shinoda explained the role of each band member on the track: "I probably got Sessions about 85 percent of the way and something needed to be added. The other guys knew what it was. Brad came in with some guitar, Phoenix with bass and Joe with scratching. It’s very fluid, and the digital elements are very chopped up and harsh. I think it’s cool. That electronic element has always been there in the band - it’s just that sometimes we bring it closer to the front.

The song starts with the clocks, starting your life. And ends with the tolling of the iron bells, and the softly spoken magic spell. Signifying the funeral bells the the prayer for the dead that awaits us all. Imo, this is one of the best songs ever.

The entire rest of the song is expertly constructed as well. The beginning seems to go on forever but the BPMs are still quite fast, signifying adolescence. Then the guitar jumps in and plays a long, angst filled, solo. Signifying the transition from your teenage years into the struggle of adulthood. Then all of the instruments transition into a laid back, final section where the BPMs also drop quite a bit. Signifying the final years of life. True masterpiece.

First heard this song when I was 15. Love it. Great sound, great band, great guitar solos. Everything was great. I didn’t really pay attention to the lyrics. Now at 29 and as a father of 2. Some of the lyrics just hit different. Like a literal blink of an eye and a more than a decade went by. Powerful song

I heard Floyd in my early 20's. 'You run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking.. racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older'.. That lyric has stuck with my my whole life. It really sunk in how short life is and how much we take for granted.. on a daily basis.

This is actually two songs. Time ends with the word, "say". "Home, home again...", begins the third verse to the song "Breathe", the first two verses of which are earlier in the album Here "Breathe (Reprise)" as it is called is the segue to a song initially known as the Death Sequence later named, "The Great Gig In The Sky". The backing vocals in the latter half of "Time" foreshadow the vocals in Great Gig. Nick Mason the drummer and Roger Waters the writer/lyricist trained as architects. So it easy to see how intricate and well constructed the music is. Headphones bring a greater appreciation of their efforts. If I may suggest.

"Time" transitions directly into "The Great Gig in the Sky" Possibly the deepest dive into the emotions surrounding death you will ever hear 😉 But in today's world you might find "Us and Them" particularly on point! Having said that, the entire album "The Dark Side of the Moon" is a Masterpiece / Work of Art. And don't just take the word of some old guy, it charted for well over 18 YEARS!

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.

I remember the first time I heard this album back in the early 70's. I was in high school. I'm pretty sure everyone who was into music in my school listened to it by the end of the first month of its release. It was kind of a right of passage. There was nothing else like it. The music was mesmerizing and the lyrics were profound. David Gilmour, the guitarist, said in an interview that his regret about the album is that he could never have the experience of everyone else outside of the band and the production team of listening to the whole thing for the first time.

I don't know if y'all have watched "The Wizard Of Oz" or not, but some stoner figured out that, if you watch the movie with the sound down while listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" album (sync them up by hitting play on the music when the MGM lion roars the third time). All the music fits with the scenes of the music and the dancing and everything but there are a lot of other situations that line up as well. The whole movie with the Pink Floyd in the background is available on KZfaq under the name, "The Dark Side Of Oz". It's kinda trippy but may not hurt to toke up first. 🤣

Time is most definitely the most precious currency. You can't save it so You might as well go nuts and spend it on the ones you love.

I'm sure I am not the only to say this but this song is about my life. Wasted my younger years thinking I had plenty of time and woke up one morning I was 50 with almost nothing to show for it.

The intro totally has melodic elements that are very cowboy western. I hear it, too.

I'm 60 now, my mum, when I was 14.."if you want to understand what's happening today kid and you want to predict the future, then know history well girl, it has a habit of repeating itself, we should learn from the past, we can't change it, it's gone kid, we only have today and we can use each day to change the future girl." she had 8 kids, a violent huge docker for a husband, a life of struggle and hardship but as she said, if we spend our time constantly looking back to yesterday we don't actually go anywhere, some people grow up kid, others just grow old..😏
