This song is about the former leader of the band, Syd Barrett, who feel into skyzophrenia because of drugs and LSD. He never fully recovered, having lost his talents for music, and spent most of his life at his mother home. He passed away a few years ago. A very sad song and a very sad destiny.

The painting is the Mona Lisa. The lyrics - So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange A walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

“Did you exchange A walk on part in the war, FOR A LEAD ROLE IN A CAGE?” That line sounds soft as a feather that hits like a fkn sledgehammer. As with most Pink Floyd, the lyrics are incredible. One of my all time favorite bands for most of my life. But This specific song consists of some of the most powerful lyrics ever written, along with exquisite instrumentals and vocals. My favorite Pink Floyd song. And also the saddest for me as it’s rooted in a personal way between me and another person. This was our song. And there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t wish they were here.

Pink Floyd is one of the legendary bands. Didn't just make music you could dance to, they made music to listen to, they made music that makes you think. The story behind this particular song is tragic. Their documentaries on Syd Barrett, one of the original members who suffered a mental breakdown due to drug use. To watch the band perform this song is so poignant because it was written out of tremendous love and genuine grief that Sid was literally "not here" anymore.

I recall playing guitar with a bunch of friends, and singing "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year" in earnest. We were in our 20's and it was affecting us on a primal level. Now, some 30 years later I can still feel that raw emotion. More poignant because 3 of those young singers are no longer with us.

Yes, there is some really profound musical intricacies in their compositions. A lot that can't be heard without headphones. But by the time the show was over, I was a full blown Pink Floyd fan. I have been a guitar player since 1971, and always appreciated good music of ANY kind but what they did was above and beyond anything I had ever experienced! Smoke up. Smoke up again...then put on Dark Side of the Moon (or any other album of theirs). Sit back and enjoy the ride. :) But for real - Pink Floyd hits, but hits waaaayyyy different after putting some in the air. ....also - the painting is "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo Da Vinci. And that line is "for a lead role in a cage." Great reactions - great couple. Keep it up, y'all!

Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I love you two! My boy in 8th grade told me his dad said Pink Floyd is what people smoke weed and listen to, so naturally, thats what i had to do. Floyd puts you in outer space, or heaven, whatever. They really create a mood. Face melters, funky bass, keyboards; please and thank you! More dope Floyd jams: Have a Cigar, Pigs(Three Different Ones), Time, and if you have 25 minutes to spare; Echoes. And every other song they ever did! Dont ever change, stay beautiful, stay cheerful, great things are coming your way, that is obvious! Just love your vibe! My two new favorites! Love from St. Pete, FL!

Pink Floyd is one of those very special groups. Next level. I am going to suggest "the great gig in the sky" for your next Pink Floyd reaction. "Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?" I always believed this had to do with being killed soon after arriving on the battlefield, versus doing long jail time for dodging the draft. This was recorded either during or at the very end of the Vietnam war. I know you can't react to an entire album, but Pink Floyd albums are designed for you to smoke out to, and then play the entire album. Someday after you're done with all the reacts, you need to listen to an entire Pink Floyd album either dark side of the moon or wish you were here.

Here's a few essential Pink Floyd songs that you must check out. Listen carefully though. Pink Floyd speaks deep and is not to be taken lightly. - Time - Comfortably Numb - Another Brick In The Wall - Shine On You Crazy Diamond Then just start listening and don't stop until you've heard them all. Then wait for your soul to settle back into your body, then listen to them all again and you're soul will be a little more prepared for it but still will need to restabilize itself, and when it does..... Do it again. And again. And again.....
