"Good for home use cuz it fits on a desk" lmao. I've spun for over 3,000 people at some of the biggest venues in Toronto on the DDJ-SR. Definitely more than capable enough for any sized show really. Deadmau5 could use it and you wouldn't know the difference. Mind you, a good DJ could make 2 tables and a mixer sound good. Everything else is just a luxury. The DDJ-SR is the best unit that I've ever used overall. It's a compact, feature-rich, quality built, secret weapon of a controller with everything you could possibly need and want to sound like or keep up with the pro's. Best $700 I've ever spent. That and my Sennheiser wireless headphones.

Bryan, when I said that it's good for home use I meant because of the size of the unit. I do not mean that you can't use it for gigs. I just pointed out one of the reasons this unit is great for home use. If you look at the DDJ SZ you're going to need a lot more room so that won't be the best option if you are limited to some space on your desk. You could take a DDJ SB and rock the biggest venues. But would you pick the SR over the SX?

I get you. It's all good. I personally don't really need or frequently use the extra features on the SX, and most of the differences are cosmetic. I like the size of the SR. So to be honest. I'd probably pick the SR lol. I find it really comfortable and user friendly. Great review overall though.

@4.21seconds- u can adjust the jog sensitivity by holding shift and using deck 2 and 4 to adjust to higher pressure

Just an FYI, for combo FX, you do not need to turn up the FX knobs at the top. They will automatically be set to max level. There is also a slight bug in the software regarding this, because the combo FX you used will REMAIN at max level and the next time you turn on the FX knob, it will be played at max level no matter where your knob is set.

No problem, and for anyone interested, you can "reset" the FX to normal level by just wiggling the FX knob and it will register control at the right level again. Just small buggy things you need to work out between the software and the hardware, similar to the 4 deck with 2 channel function. Other than that, the controller is real solid and a blast to use!

I've been having a problem w/ the controller freezing up on me 1 1/2 to 2 hours into using it! Second one and used it w/ Windows and Apple. I saw there's a new beta 1.7 out so hopefully it will fix the problem!

TLM, man oh man...THANKS for going over the filter aspect on how you have to use it when going from 1 deck to the other when changing songs beacuse I was having that exact issue. I would go from deck 1 to 2 and cue up the song and not have any sound. I thought something was wrong with the mixer I just purchased. I just have to train myself to keep using the filter when going from deck to deck. No way in hell will I ever be using 4 decks.... I'll keep it at 2 for now.

You must have accidentally pressed the reverse function on your keypads. For my Mac I think it's the A key (or Q key)you can click it and it'll send like deck A (or B deck) in reverse and forward play. But you can check the short cuts in the program with the info button at the top right of the screen

thanks for the great review. I am a DJ from back in the day and looking to catch the bug again! your review KILLS the pioneer review. LOL Keep up the great work! That channel issue should be reported to Pioneer as a bug. That seems painful! I am still a bit torn between SR and SX!

+Nicole Sultana i bought the SR recently, and i really like it :) it's a lot cheaper than the SX and it works really great, just what i expected and I can do what I want to do with it. Really great stuff. Only used it at home till now but I think this is even great to use at clubs etc

The DDJ-SB also has capacitve touch jog wheels. all the mixers in this line have the capacitive. It would have been better to get pressure sensitive ones though.

Reviews stating the SX has capacative touch pads. The SB I have has capacative touch also. It might be combined with pressure sensors in it like your mobile phone/ laptop but the pressure is not what activates it. A way you can test for this is to put a few drops on the platter. It should cause the music to stop because it thinks you are touching it. if you do it on your laptop you can scroll with one finger because it recognises the water drops as another finger.

Now I know how to use four decks, it will take some time to use it, if you use 4 decks all the time, buy a 4 deck controller. My Allen & Heath works great for me as a 4 deck controller , I have to use Itch but not that mush of a different depending on your style and music you play some bell are not need . I still like my VCI 300 a lot easier to carry with lap top in one bag.

What's your take on the SR2 for smaller spaces? my biggest concern is the relatively short pitch faders and the crossfader doesn't appear to easily be replaced... I'm considering looking for a 2ch controller for smaller size, bit not finding any Pro level stuff in that form factor...

Please I need you to answer me for this... I've bought a DDJ-SR and I was trying to prove it and start using it when I noticed that the faders didn't work... Maybe it's something really simple but I actually don't know does it happen.. Maybe it is because I don't have actually my speakers and I use my TV as them. On Rekordbox i can hear the songs but the faders don't work, and on Serato I can't even play the songs, they are not reproduced, Please help

There's also a huge issue w/the right side key lock randomly turning off. The firmware update hasn't fixed this issue w/my unit. Ive'd exchanged it 3 times to no avail. I noticed your right side key lock was off as well. It seems to just happen sporadically when playing & or scratching. I love this unit the most because of the portability, but will never use it live right now.. Recording only... I've already notified Serato & Pioneer... No responses yet... ??

Wow, that doesn't sound good. I don't remember if I played with the key lock so the right one might have been off the whole time I had the unit here. I did not check that. I hope they help you out soon!

I rock with numark TTX turntables and I love my Vinyl but I would like to try something different and similar to my numarks, i'm a turntablist as well how does the response feel for scratching.

Great review DJTLM... Thank you. I have a question for you. I currently have a two turntables, and Rane-Sixty-one mixer setup. I'm considering replacing my Rane Sixty-one with the Pioneer DDJ-SZ unit, just because i like the idea of having all serato controls in the mixer unit. My question to you is, if i do replace (only) my Sixty-one mixer, would i be downgrading my mixer/system? Thank a mil....

home use are you kidding me ,,,I ve been jd ing for 15 years and I bought ddj-sr for gigs ,, for 600 bucks it,s a great unit for mobile dj.s.....you may be made out of money but the rest of us do work day jobs and pay bills and dj on the week ends ,,,so your comment for home use was so wrong,,,

No, I'm not kidding and no, I'm not made out of money. The reason why I said the unit could be great for home use was because of the size. It has a lot more features than the SB, but it's still small enough to fit on a desk. By no means did I mean that you couldn't use the SR for gigs. Of course you can!

Wow, it's obvious you took it personal because you are a mobile DJ who uses the SR. You act as if I called the SR a toy when I clearly stated that the SR is in between Pioneer's entry level SB and professional SX (and that's what it is). And again, my comment about home use was based on the size of the unit. Of course I did not mean that it's only for home use. I do appreciate your feedback. Next time I will make sure that if I mention home use, I will also mention that the unit is good for gigs (if it's a unit that is good for gigs). But you feel that I should have expressed that the SR is great for mobile DJ's. I don't really agree with that. It can be used for mobile DJ gigs, but I would recommend a 4 channel controller. The SR can control 4 decks, but 4 seperate channels on a controller eliminates the issue I pointed out in the video. Just wondering: if you're a SR user, why are you watching a review about the unit? You clearly did not come to hear my opinion because when I didn't say what you wanted to hear you called the review a train wreck? 😃

H.Thank you for the review. I was wondering if you can use other software programs like traktor and virtual dj with this hardware? I really hate that the knobs must be rotated to the position they were before to hear the sound again if i am using 4 tracks, but if you assign knobs to "funcitons" in (for example) traktor or virtual Dj you have the ability that for exmple the "low" knob snaps automatically back as soon you move it just slightly.

ive got the sr also an i was using it before, an my track was skipping back instead of going the normal way :/ i dont know if it was serato or my decks but just want to know if anyone has had this problem before?

When this controller gets hot in temperature the jog wheels stop working properly until the temp gets back to "normal"

hey dj TLM...i was wondering if this controller has the same feature as traktor s2.(jump 4 beats,8 beats,16 and even 32) because i'm a begginer and i play mostly house at some songs i need the start and play it for a little bit and then i need a little bit before the end to make a nice transition..i mean i don;t want to play the whole 8 minutes song..i'm asking that because i'm looking to by either traktor s2 or pioneer ddj sr....i really love the pioneer but i need that feature to ))) you can make this with cue points i know...but cue points i better..hope you understand what i mean and answer me soon..thanxx a lot..and keep on lightin up the road for us the begginers)) have a nice day..

Most DJs that I know rock the SR because you still get a ton of functionality but the SX is a lot more expensive.

Can someone tell me how to fast search parts of the song in SR? I've been using the SX with the needle search in my club and I'm thinking on buying the SR for home but with no needle search I don't feel like turning the jogwheel all the way till the point (if it's the first time I play it and it has no hot cues). Is there any option like in CDJ to fast search with the jogwheel? Or buttons? thanks

Sam Sacharczuk absolutely! get a controller that will be good for home and live use. and will last longer with a better build. plus you get the full version of serato. so if I were you, I recommend getting the SR over the SB2. that's from personal experience with both controllers. overall I recommend the SR.

I also have the SB2 as well as the SR...SR is way better, and definitely worthy it, just make sure to buy a Hard case that doubles up as a laptop stand. I got the Pro X case with my SR, its a bit heavy but also well worth it for the price

You can use it to tap to the beat to determine the tempo (if your software can't do it)
