I have a PLX-1000 and got it last July to celebrate my 50th birthday. I must say it is a gorgeous turntable and built like a tank. I have always wanted a Technics 1200 since the early 90's, but when they returned to production they overpriced their new products. Their lowest tier turntable the MK7 (priced at $1299 when they first came out and now $999) is not worth the price tag. I have no regrets getting the PLX-1000, it is a fantastic turntable.

Edit; I just ordered a pair 👌 Great to see a review from a purely listener’s / audio perspective. I’m a DJ but I also spend hours simply listening. I want a technics but I don’t know about the mk7. It weighs less than the plx500.. The plx 1000 however is modelled on the Technics mk2.
@robsemailАй бұрын
My understanding is that the mk7 is sub-par in some ways but still does feature an excellent direct-drive motor that is among the very best at holding precise pitch when the pitch is off-center. The downsides include a plastic plinth and buttons that feel like the AT LP-120, plus the light weight that reduces resistance to resonance. A couple years ago I purchased two Reloop RP7000 mk2s because they are heavier and the build quality feels much better. The Pioneer PLX1000 is much more similar to my Reloops than it is different, but one thing I really do love about the Reloops is the very adjustable torque.

Had this turntable for 12 months now and I absolutely love it. The quality of sound that this produces is stunning! I run it with a Goldring 2100 moving iron cartridge and vintage musical fidelity XLPS phono amp. The sound is so rich clear and detailed and has a fullness which will just make you keep reaching for another album. At this price I doubt you will find a better bit of kit, I looked widely before buying and I absolutely know I made the right choice. I intend keeping it for many years and with the level of build quality on this thing it will last the distance!!

This is only the third turntable I have owned in my life the first was a JVC QL 7 I sold that many many years ago and for very little money. I later bought a lovingly restored Thorens TD 160 my 2, it had been lovingly restored and placed into a granite plinth. I very quickly discovered that I didn’t like the sound of it and as a result found myself listening less. I remembered the JVC sounded fuller and more engaging and enjoyable. I usually place listening above anything and regret not doing that with the Thorens. I took the PLX 1000 from my dealer on a 14 day home trial, installed my new Goldring 2100 and WOW!!!!!! The next day I called my dealer to say there was no way he was getting this back!! Love it and will not be changing this turntable I love it

I just got one of these 10-14-23 off Amazon on sale for $700 and am shocked by how good it is. It reeks of quality and my expensive audiophile records have never sounded better. I was using a an AT120, and a vintage dual, and this is a HUGE upgrade. I also have a Fluance 41 and the tonearm and cue lever on the PLX1000 is much better. As others have said, the head shell and tonearm wiring uses a small gauge but I cannot detect any sound degradation. I doubt that upgrading to a heavier gauge would result in any improvement. The only thing you can really "hear" from the table is the cartridge/stylus.

Plx is a nice table for audio but weaknesses exist in the tonearm. The vertical arm bearings on mine needed tightening, this really helped the sound. The loose bearing made the timing sound imprecise - a common complaint for these tables that is blamed on the motor. The motor on these guys is actually quite good. The tonearm wire is really not up to the quality of the rest of the unit. Simon at Audiyo has the best options for tonearm wire. Finally, I gussetted the arm and locktite tightened the fasteners. It is a completely different table now, love it. The bearings and tonearm wire are musts.
@paulboyce85379 ай бұрын
What a load of rubbish. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l5Z8fZelqsexo4k.html Adjusting the bearing is so easy. It is not a fail. Never use locktite as this is something you need to adjust time to time and more often if you transport your gear. This is something that comes loose on transport. 1000 miles on a truck before it gets to you. Again not a fail happens to all turntables. Would be more concerned if it were not loose and locktited. Next to the wiring. The tone arm is better insulated than many of the other more "prestige" tables. If you claim to hear difference changing a wire to a similar wire that's called a "placebo effect" where there in reality is no difference and all is in your head.
@peterregorsek15043 жыл бұрын
This one is the bottom which I would recommend if buying new. If buying vintage, even more entry level direct-drive turntables "made in Japan" are perfect choice, but they were not available for 300$ new. At that time price started at somewhere 600$ of today, that is somewhere the same price like PLX-1000 costs today. For less money it is impossible to produce a turntable that works, you can only make a toy. The next rank if buying new would be Technics SL-1200mk7 or SL-1500C.
@MrIlovetogame3 жыл бұрын

Both of those Technics are cheap rubbish at AT level and only fools pay for them. Open up and you see plastic and very poorly made and designed. It is a nightmare if you need to get something fixed. All the main things are old design/fragile where as Pioneer has power, engine, insulation and sound optimized and done with very simple and functional design.

This is one you can easily stick with forever. At price points beyond this, theres not much to gain. I would strongly recommend a change of cartridge next, I love my Nagaoka MP200 but the stylus is not great. I run an ATVM95ML until I can get the Nag retipped. Its a fine neutral cart with the best stylus on the market, a steal for the price which they will increase in February, Id suggest you jump on that before they jack the price. The anti skate is a fickle topic. VTF is the only installation that can be "perfect", the rest are all moving targets. Id think 4 for anti skate is too high, especially for the Nag, but it all depends on the spring tension in the TT. The easiest test to do is to drop the stylus on a flat surface, like the area around the label and see how the arm moves. Then adjust the Anti Skate so the arm moves slowly in either direction or stands still. Usually that is = to the VTF, so 2 in your case but it depends on that spring tension on your deck. I would also recommend heightening the cueing platform a bit, the arm seems to rest pretty close to the record, I can imagine warps being a close call. Simply screw on a screw near the cue platform to adjust it, very easy.

Ciao, a parte questo hai riscontrato altre differenze qualitative tra il Pioneer e il Technics?
@meganoid_9001 Жыл бұрын
Hi, I have been looking for that comparison for long. Indeed, I have a brand new PLX1000 and an old 1210 MK2. Using Turntable Speed app (on Android), the best measurements stem in the following conditions: 1) No slipmat or anything else than the metal platter; 2) 33/1/3 round per minute speed, 3) Mobile phone centered and laid over a small tape Scotch (1.5 cm wide) centered over the centering pin of the turntable. Here are my figures. Pioneer PLX-1000: min 33.29, max 33.37, drift 0.03%, WOW (RMS): 0.06. Technics SL 1210 MK2: min 3.33, max 33.38, drift 0.06%, WOW (RMS): 0.04. Conclusion: Technics drifts more than Pioneer, the latter is ~50% more volatile than Technics. In my view, drift is not so important because it's just a matter of tuning the pitch appropriately. However, WOW is really important. While a 40 years old Technics is less volatile than a brand new Pioneer, their WOW figure are all below 0.10, which is commonly considered as the threshold below which the spinning is excellent. I'd be glad to receive a feedback from whoever wishes to comment on these results. Thanks.

Better motor, power, tonearm, insulation where it counts and better sound with very simplified workings. Technics is a nightmare and very poor design if something goes wrong. Personally Technics is hugely overpriced. Under $2000 tables I put it at AT quality. Simply put I would avoid. Pioneer is a modern/improved take of the classic and it shows.
