Try checking zener diode ZD21 (supplies IC 21 with 15 VDC). I heard of a zener diode being noisy. Also check pressure rollers for lube and capstan motor shaft to see if gummed up.

The guy that is fixing mine said it was the power supply. I don’t know anything about these. I’m just passing on what he told me.

During play at the correct speed, heat servo control components using controlled heat (air soldering station) 110-130⁰F with ~15% of max air flow and large air nozzle, note any speed issues. If speed changes with heat isolate the faulty component using very small air nozzle of air soldering station.

Capstan motors going out. I have the exact same issues. my tech Replaced and everything is working 100% also recapped capstan board and adjusted speed control replace the transistors also as a safety measure.

Another gentleman I read had the same problem he changed motors capacitors and other stuff he then said he walked away from it and went back to work on it a few days later and come to find out his problem. On his 909 his pinch rollers were set incorrectly they were putting to much pressure on the capstan shaft. I don't know anything about the 909 but just thought I'd pass that Sir. Strike my comment about the motor capacitor. That would apply to an AC motor and it looks like the 909 uses a DC motor.

Mine has the speed issue at 3-3/4ips (and eventually stalls until I change to 7-1/2 and has no issues there (the stalling is intermittent). Seems to be isolated to one side of the servo board. How is your 7-1/2?

Replacing the servo board I thought cleared the problem. Customer noticed it still had a speed issue when he took it home.

@@5thcomm It turned out te be the belt in my case. The belt is only 8 years old but slips now. Where can i find a good belt that lasts long for the RT-909?
