My dad was struck and killed by an improper load and you can't even imagine the pride that I have in your professionalism. Thank you and all your brothers and sisters that take what you do so seriously 🤙🏽

Sorry about that. Hell of a way to go. I think about that literally everytime I strap down a load. I could save a few minutes by not belly wrapping and maybe just doing the bare minimum. The bare minimum basically meaning what is legal. Technically, 5 straps would be legal and that's it. What's legal, isn't always what's safe. I'm a stickler when it comes to load securement. I always say if you don't have time to strap it down right, then you have no business transporting the load. There's literally no excuse for improper securement. The customer can wait. If a driver who was loaded after me ends up leaving before me, i cant let that upset me. A lot of guys are concerned about looking like they're slow or new, but I could care less. That load securement is my #1 priority not just for my own safety, but for everybody on the road.

As long as you got your pipe carrying racks there's no need to belly wrap this pipe four straps on the bottom layer three straps on the top layer is more than enough and I'm sure you're saying I am stupid but I've only been doing this for 53 years I have probably pissed on more blacktop than you have driven on

There's no way i would ever only run 3 straps over a 48000 pound load. DOT doesnt care about those bottom straps. Its the straps over the entire load that count. 3 straps with a combined WLL of 16500 pounds is not nearly enough. Nobody does that. Ive never seen it, not even in Houston. The combined wll of the straps should be at least half the weight of the load. That's 24000 pounds, which means 5 straps over the entire load is the minimum legally. I've learned that no matter how long ive done something, i have to be willing to listen and learn. Age doesn't matter. Ive learned things from guys 20 years younger than me. It didnt hurt my pride or ego. I just did a load with a buddy of mine. We were hauling 2 3/8" pipe. He refused to belly wrap. I highly recommended it. He tightened the crap out of his straps too. He's 230 pounds. Well, I get a call the next day. He had a joint slide forward and almost hit the headache rack. He then decided to belly wrap it. We all have different experiences. Your experience isn't mine, just as mine isn't yours. My motto is better safe than sorry and always consider that somebody might know something I don't, even if I was running pipe in West Texas when they were still in diapers. Also, just bc something bad hasn't happened, doesnt mean that there's a possibility that it won't. I want to minimize that as much as possible. I'll never shame somebody for what I might consider to be overkill. If anything, I might learn from it.
