Awesome video man. If you have access to a mill, you might want to consider machining a counterbore the size of the c-clamp ends in the center of the two press pieces. It would make keeping it center much easier, that makes any sense. Cant wait to see how it turns out, that frog on a river sounds amazing. -Ben

Nice. Makes me want to get back to blending. That's cool, I need to get a press. Hey one tip I used was to weigh in grams for better accuracy.

I know this video is a little old in internet time, but I was glad to see it as I've been dreaming-up a design of my own. I've got a buddy who owns a machine shop so I'm positive I could get a cap & base made. The 4" x 4" stainless steel stock is no sweat to find. One thing I'd say that'd improve your operation big-time is a hydraulic press. They're not too pricey either. Thanks for sharing this; it's corroborated my own day-dreaming ideas of pressing my favorite ribbon-cut blends into nice cakes that'll age much better over time. Also, in the case of 8oz tins of blends which I can't get in bulk (for example, G.L. Pease recipes from C&D), it'll be so nice to be able to pop those babies open and put 'em right into the press, knowing that there's no surprises in the tin a year or so down the road. Awesome video, and 👍 👍 to the beard! 😎 Happy Piping from Cape Cod

Nice! Thanks. I know this is an old video but I had a suggestion in regards to your C clamp. You mentioned cutting the T handle off where you tighten it by hand to install a nut to get a torque reading. I am suggesting keeping the T handle and just welding a nut to the end. That way you can still tighten by hand until you reach the point where you want to get a torque reading. Anyway, just my thought. Happy piping.

Hello. So I was wondering if a binding agent wouldn't be necessary. I know many blenders of Virginia cakes add a moistening agent such as a light amount of sugar water or even whiskey (etc), which is suppose to help bind the ingredients and bring about a more solid cake. Would adding a small amount (very small) of moisture better help bring the pressed contents to a more solidified cake? Is this something you are familiar with?

I little trick about scales if you press the hold button twice or tare with that means is when the bowl on it it gets exclude from the weight so it calculated back to.00.0 all over again like the bowl or whatever you use is not even on there so you don't have to ad the weight of that anymore.not a lot of ppl no that for some reason and most scales don't even tell you that in the instructions and mostly all scales do this even the dinky 15$ ones

Nice. Thanks for the shout Jayson. The press I had on the shelf has been sold. I will be making more from time to time, and get that word out for those that are interested. I use a large bearing puller with mine, so I believe I put a "dimple" in the center of the top of that press to maintain center. And the puller already has a hex head for torque use.

That paradigm should stretch a great bit and wrap over the edges of the press ends. You might get by with 1 piece.

I've been interested in seeing this since you first got the press. My question is how do you smoke the cubes when they're done being pressed? Cut a slice off similar to a flake and roll/fold and stuff? Or is it more like a plug?

You weld on a guide to the top plate that ensures the clamp stays dead center, i bet that would really help with the initial pressure increase Great video though! I'm definitely thinking about making my own press and making some brownies
