I modified @SophiaMyaCupcakes bombe-mold-for-cupcakes technique by pre-filling and chilling the mold, and then carving out the base of the icing to match the top of the cupcake...simply filling the mold to the top with icing, and then placing the cupcake on top, yields too much icing for my taste!
