The alternate world that is made of ideas that flow out of another world, which we could presume is ours, made me think of Alexius Meinong's jungle. I find the religious relationship between Piranesi and the House evocative of Spinoza's God. It's completely different from any orthodox conception of God as this Transcendent being that acts teleologically.

The duality between abductor/ abductee is interesting. Piranesi is imprisoned. Yet, he is serene and content. He likes the House, and has genuine interest in it. The Other, though the abductor, is troubled. He hates the house. He refers to it as a maze of labyrinths. He's superstitious. He believes there's a secret knowledge that could grant him superpowers. And at the end he dies, a symbolic loss. Piranesi accepts his situation. He tries to make the best out of it. He relies on reason. He tries to scientifically study the climatic changes. He doesn't expect any teleological interventions to save him, or to make his life better. And he wins by living a serene life in the house, and by getting out of it unscathed.
