Watched your video, bought the tire, and I am more than happy!!! THANKS!!!! Have it in 45-622, and I think, it really rolls as easy on a paved road like my wheelset with the Terreno Zero in 32-622…. Unbelievable, but true!!! And on gravel, just delicious!

Excellent review… I have a set of Pirelli’s on my 21 Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 1 and have experienced the same “Puncture” issues on the rear wheel. First time riding on these I caught a Nail that went through the center of the rear wheel and out the side wall (can’t hold that against the tire). Needless to say but I had to replace that tire. Within two months on the second tire, I punctured the rear wheel again and the Stans sealant would not stop the leak, after plugging the tire I still had issues with a slow leak. I now run the “H” only on the front with no issues, and have put an “M” on for the rear tire. This seems to have fix my issues!!! Thanks for the video and confirming my suspicions with the puncture prone “H” tire. Good for me to mention that I am a large rider tipping the scales at 255lbs…

I ran these last summer for probably 2000 km of mixed terrain riding. I had zero issues with punctures, I do run tubeless. They are crazy fast as you say and the traction is pretty ok, better then the thin tread would indicate but not off road kings.

Great review! I have been riding these on my gravel bike since May (700x35c), and I have the same experience. Very fast and nice tires that roll amazingly good on mixed surfaces - until I punctured. I also also have experienced MUCH more punctures than I normally do with other tires, and as you I experienced punctures that didn't seal well. I believe that it is something in the rubber/tread combo that makes it difficult for the sealant (Much-Off) to stick and seal, but also in my experience the hole keeps growing (getting bigger). I also found it very difficult to repair the tires when home from my ride (I now have 2 tires that is useless as tubeless, but works with inner-tubes after repair). This should be worth some further investigations ...

Interesting. I never could get Gravelking SKs to work. Multiply tires often punctured the first ride and never really sealed. No one else seems to have this problem. On the other hand i have totaly beaten up schwalbe g-ones with at least 40 holes in them, they vomit sealant like crazy after a tire change and clean, but re-seal within seconds and stay that way. must have something to do with the rubber compound.

Spot on. I changed Panaracer GK SK to these on 650b wheels. And it was night and day difference. Panarecer was hard as hell even on 1.5 bar and beat the hell out of me. These Pirelli ride smooth and supple, you can feel how they work. And yes, it's fun how they are rolling away on the descents when you ride with other people, we even tested against semi-slick tubulars. After 30 km/h their width (aero drag) is starting to feel, but for a gravel tire it's nothing new. They are also extremely easy to get on rims and inflate with a normal pump. And there is no nasty smell too. Never punctured anything but a road bike tire so can't comment about this aspect.

Bought these hoping for best. Ride great and are super fast on and off the road. Yet, I had same problem.....kept puncturing them between the tread. Both my front and rear tire looked like yours when removed (with the Dynaplug remnants) as sealant wasn't enough to plug holes. It's always easy enough to remedy and get going again but annoying (I'm tired of repurchasing plug replacements and CO2 cartridges). Now they've also started generally losing air. No idea whether the plugs aren't holding but they lose air and have to be topped up after about an hour into a ride. They are now on their way out and will be replaced with a different brand. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this tire if durability is a necessity. If you want speed though and are willing to tolerate the hole here and there, they are a good option.

Tread pattern matters when there's mud or sand. Fot rocks, pebbles, etc. Your grip comes from tire width and running low pressures.
@ZipZoomZip
@ZipZoomZip Жыл бұрын
From my years of running 50mm slicks I can say that a wide slick works better in sand than a tire of equal width with tread blocks. The tread blocks displace the sand grains relative to one another and this causing more slipping and sinking. Also true to a lesser extent in pea gravel.

Nice review. Those tyres look interesting. I have two sets of wheels for my main bike, an Enigma Escape. Both are Panaracer's on Hunt wheels. For mostly gravel rides I have 38mm Gravelking SKs and for mostly tarmac I have 38 Gravelking (slicks). I have found both to be great to ride, relatively cheap and also long-lasting. The SKs have probably 2-3000ks on them and barely look worn. I'm keen to try their SS's next to see how they match up as they seem like the Goldlocks of tyres for the type of dry, mixed terrain that I have where I live (far north coast, northern NSW). Maybe these Pirelli's would be ideal too.

From what I can see, the main difference would be how the knobs are distributed around the tire. The cinturato has a very slick center tread but bigger side knobs. The G-ones have small treads all around. I was in your same situation, but I ultimately decided to get the G-ones because the roads/sidewalks where I ride are very twisty meaning that I lean on the side a lot and having predictable and fast rolling side knobs are important to me. So for me, that's why I got the g-ones. But I definitely will try out the cinturatos too.

@@vivek_v I'm still leaning towards the Schwabb all-rounders because their tread profile looks more round for smooth and progressive tip-in on tarmac corners. The Pirelli Cinturato H's look like they have a flat center and abrupt turn-in. And since that turn-in will end up on the knobs, I just don't see how they could inspire confidence leaning over very far on tarmac. Can anyone comment on this?

I'm really not a big fan of the pathfinder pro. My top speed is limited, casing is way to soft ( no feedback on road), still slips way too much, when out if the saddle the roll off is sudden you'll feel it when sprinting. Doesn't do great on moderate gravel especially since the slick is the contact patch. Rolls okay gravelking slicks are my go to path finders won't do great on gravel anyways so might as well have something that's much faster (but my riding is like 60-70% road and 30% gravel. The exploring and crazy rides I'll try something else. But to each their own. Edit but the path finders do so well when it comes to sealing things up.

@@jaspreetsidhu5708 I'm a fan of the Pathfinder Pro's but my exposure to other tires has been limited. They have been bomb proof for me so far. They roll so nice on tarmac, hard pack gravel roads and tow paths. It's funny as a light rider I sometimes coast downhill faster than heavier riders and keep up with roadies (21 mph+ avg) on my heavy steel gravel bike. I would agree that this tire is not the best for more moderate gravel or muddy conditions. I found it can take a bit more skill to climb the really steep hills with loose gravel and sand where traction is lacking. Despite not being the best pure gravel tire it is definitely a great all-round choice, especially when you have to ride a fair bit of roads to get to the gravel.

@@josephphillips865 I agree it's a good all rounder. The only other real good one I've found is the gravelking sk's. Comfy, handle gravel better than the pathfinder pros, nice and kushy, only downside is they puncture quite easily, and on uphill loose climbs they kind of fight for traction. But they make a puncture proof casing which is nice.

These tires are beguiling. The tread looks really fast. The ride and feedback is surprisingly stiff, slow and a bit bouncy. The side walls are very very stiff(much stiffer than my 50mm Soma Cazaderos or 48mm Rene Herse Switchback Hill, extra light sidewalls). Both offer a much more supple ride with feedback that is much more High Def than the Pirellis. FYI-Bicyclerolling resistance informs that the rolling resistance is similar to a Rene Herse with endurance casing-that feels right to me)

@@JustRideAdelaide .. my Pirelli H gravel tyres finally arrived. Havent had a chance on gravel yet but an interesting comparison backng up what you have said. I have a small section of downhill bitumen road where I test out tyres for overall speed at the bottom of the dip. Not completely scientific but gives a reasonable idea of how tyres go. I have 4 wheelsets that I have tested lately for how fast they are at the bottom....700 x 28mm Pirelli Velo road tyres (52km/h) 700 x 38mm Schwalbe All Round (47km/h) .700 x 40mm WTB Byway (48km/h) and the 650 x 45 Pirelli Cinturato H (49km/h) This seems to reflect what you have said. I would assume that the Pirelli would be even faster than the others on gravel with its width and ability to absorb bumps. Im currently in the market to change my Cinturato M. but it is hard for me to find another tyre that can match the Cinturato M. I have ridden it through 354kms of British country side (King Alfreds way), 900kms of Spanish country side (Camino De Santiago) and few hundred kms of knarly single tracks of south Wales. not a single puncture but I did have a slow leek that was mostly my fault. The only time it failed is again mainly my fault because I rode my gravel bike like a full suspension mountain down hill. I hit a rock going downhill (25mph) that pinched the side wall and that probably the one that destroyed the tyre but I still manage to ride 16km on flat. aside from that its a very very tough tyre it has a very good grip on mostly any type of terrain but its not very confident inspiring when its loose gravel or dirt but its just probably that I dont trust any tyres on such surface. it rolls very good and is pretty much the same on the road. my only issue with this tyre is that it can be very tricky to seat the bead on the rim when setting it up and theres is always some kind of very very small leakage that is very hard to find. but once its in the puncture protection os this tyre is superb I highly recommend this tyre to everyone.

@ride Adelaide - I was thinking of putting the Cinturato Gravel H 650Bx45C TLR on my Nukeproof Digger gravel bike Instead of the WTB Sendero 650x47C Road Plus ones that are on there now. Would you say that’s a decent move to gain more speed/faster rolling. I appreciate I’ve be sacrificing grip.

Y'know, I just don't like their size range. I don't want to test sub-40mm tyres any more. It feels like the market has moved past that. I do know people who love the Terreno Drys though. @@thibautc7521 I love my 38mm Dry's! A good amount of grip and confidence for a fairly slick gravel tyre. It doesn't like it when the gradient gets above 15% though on anything lose. But it allows me to ride on tarmac and maintain a steady speed

they're fast , yes, but not very durable. I had a friend on 700x38's and they kept getting torn, punctured and ripped up. Its not worth the speed if you are pulling over all the time to put in a dart, add sealant, or put in a tube because they won't stop failing. I'd avoid them.

They're really good on the road for a gravel tyre. Plus their wear rate would indicate they could last longer than other gravel tyres from being ridden on the tarmac. Funny story on the G-One Bite, I did ask the Schwalbe local distributor about getting some and they indicated that they didn't keep many in stock because everyone buys the G-One Allround.
