it's not just the uk, it's all over europe. Wasn't able to return to germany for years after adopting some pitties, and giving them up is not an option. The problem is misconception and misinformation, poor dogs don't even get a chance to turn peoples opinions since the are branded illegal all together.

Staffies are fine. It's dogs with pit bull heritage that have the law against them. It started because thugs were using pit bulls (mostly American ones) as fighting and attack dogs. Not the poor pup's fault. I suggest you get a DNA test done. If yours is 100% Staffie, or crossed with a non-banned breed, keep a copy of the result on you whenever you take her out. Should you get stopped by the police (which isn't that common, they usually have to be called out by a busy body), you can prove there and then that your dog is legal. If they take her, you still have the right to appeal, and if you have proof, you should win - and a lot sooner than if you have to go through the usual channels. Bear in mind I'm_ not a lawyer I have just heard of DNA tests saving lives. In the meantime, live for the day, just as your pup does :D

Statistically yes pit bulls have a higher incidence of killing people but they also have a higher incidence of being put in a bad environment and having a hard time being rehabilitated because of certain mental issues from their former bad environment. Rehabilitated Annabelle from a dog fighting ring. Her previous owner used a whistle as a signal to put her into a fighting ring. She's a sweet girl but a year and a half later she still acts aggressive when she hears any whistling noise. It was hard but I rehabilitated her knowing she deserves a chance now she is fine with it. I know if anyone else was near her with a whistling noise at the time they would have thought it was an unjustified violent pit bull. There's a lot of factors that can come with pit bulls like mine but I never seen one naturally violent

Emily Snow we have to blame the bread at some point 72% of dog attacks fatalities now yes some case it’s the owner but most the time with pit bulls it’s not the owners fault my neighbors some of the nicest people I know spoiled there put bull from birth trained it everything no previous owner nothing then my neighbors go into there back yard where the pit bull was and it killed 2 feral cats with bite marks and everything so yes it is the breed and I can say that most the time

Maybe before people comment on the idiocy and unfairness of another country’s law perhaps at least they could take the time to try to understand it and why it exists. Let me state at the start of this that I’m not comfortable with this law existing in the UK. But I do understand why we put it into place. Firstly, the law was implemented in 1991. This isn’t something new. Any dogs that are affected by this now in the UK are bred or owned by people who had or should have had full knowledge of the law and chose to break it. So I feel much more sorry for the dogs affected than the people. However, the main point is that in the UK before this law was put into effect there was a history of fatal dog attacks, in which pit bulls were often implicated. I agree that there is no such thing as an evil dog... just bad people, bad owners. And actually this is the real issue here. Unfortunately pit bulls got an image and reputation in the UK as a status animal for many bad people. Criminals often owned them and trained them as attack dogs. So, you see? It’s not the dog’s fault it got banned here in the UK. It was stupid and often criminal people who caused it to happen through their ownership and training of the breed. But it wasn’t done totally without reason.

It does suck I live in the UK and I think it's an unfair law just because the shes a pitbull doesn't meen that shes dangerous shes clearly a very good dog and I do hope someday that the law is banished because I would like to own a pitbull someday I think they are one of the sweetest dog breeds out there

Elizabeth Czepiel that’s like very illegal and putting actual service dogs who’ve have years of training to preform above standards of absolute obedience (never leaving the handlers side, never jumping or running over to someone or something) and to migrate the handlers disability threw trained tasks at risk for public access issues by people faking a service animal (taking their untrained ESA into no pet allowed areas) or the dog and handler themselves at risk. Even minor occurrences like the dog running over to the service dog (who hopefully won’t get distracted) and distracting it could put its handler at risk for missing an alert with could result in injury and death. Also it’s a federal crime.
