During the takes they sing live for recording visual purposes, but afterwards the studio version of the song (the pre-recorded one) is the one that gets put into the final edit of the film. So they cut the audio that was recorded during the scene

Yes and no. It's all prerecorded beforehand and they're just lip syncing. Anna Kendrick sang live on set.

it is pre-recorded to keep the timing during shooting(however they still might sing during shooting). Then once shooting is finished they will go into a recording studio and watch the footage of themselves while doing the dialogue and/or singing

Nah I think they are playing their pre recorded audio on set as they sing, so it’s a bit like lip syncing.

With singing, they pre-record in the studio and then 'lipsync' to their own playback. So it is them singing, just not being recorded live. - Apart from a few select bits which are sung live

not my favorite musical... but I've heard so many GREAT things... I'll go see it when it comes to our dollar show (which is now four Dollars... inflation... go figure)... I hope they keep doing that... live recording is so much better... I heard Hugh Jackman is just unbelievable... I can WAIT to see that... ALL my friend said his high notes were just amazing... I love the young soprano in Les Mis who gets the high Cs... I heard she was great too (the young lady from Mama Mia)

This was an AMAZING Musical film (maybe my favorite)... IT SO cool they we're singing LIVE... HOW cool is that... THIS is how everything needs to be done... Glee... Movie Musicals... Opera Movies... etc... etc... NO wonder this movie had SO much LIFE!!!
