If you can see him live, do. Impossible to explain how overwhelming the detail of his music is live, it feels phsyical like an orchestra but dozens of times louder, its incredible. Every sound fizzles and distorts and just buzzes with energy, so good.

Because people don't understand what a live electronic set. They need to see a string being plucked or drum being hit to consider it live, even though this would be near impossible to recreate live but it doesn't matter to them. Call it ignorant hate. Admittedly I thought this set was pretty boring to watch but great to listen to. The visuals weren't exciting IMO

I absolutely love Jon Hopkins, and his recent album is fascinating. I was as perplex as you before watching it. But I kind of get what can pissed off some people about this video. In my opinion I think he ruined emerald rush, and every time I heard a weird groove or a weird effect was when he was touching a knob... I feel like listening to his music on spotify is way more interesting than this video. Which is something I don't understand coming from an artist with such talent and taste. And I can't imagine a way for his music to be actually played live, but what he did was not necessary and for me and apparently some people, it even was annoying.
@nautmusicuk5 жыл бұрын
La Frog amen, and very much a problem I face as an electronic musician who performs live. They look at someone with a laptop and assume it’s just pressing play.

Electronic musicians , DJ's etc , are still highly musical people , like playing bass , its easy to do badly , difficult to play well haha ,,, DJing to me is less like playing an instrument , constantly creating the sounds but more like steering a train , a train of groove that is running by itself , and the curator steers it , and thats the appeal of dance music to me , its not about events , or three chord tricks , or 3 minute beatles tunes , its a groove , and evolving flow of groove that progresses opens up closes with such diverse array of tones, all music has something to offer , everything
@pjetrs4 жыл бұрын
great comparison with playing bass! Sometimes its like with bands, people cheer and applaud for the specific song a dj is playing (lead singer/lead guitar), but the pace (drummer), rhythm (2nd guitar) and groove (bass) make it possible for the lead to shine

I didn't thumbs down but I can tell you that I was a bit taken aback when a 32 minute DJ mix (electro-house, garage, 2-step, whatever it is... I'm a D&B guy myself) started playing after a string of 4 Radiohead/Thom Yorke standard length videos, so I'm guessing it has hundreds of thumbs down from other viewers not very thrilled with KZfaq's artificial intelligence algorithms selecting and auto-playing this mix in a playlist of other, not very related music. Of course, the answer is simply to page back one, click the three little menu dots by the name of this vid and just click Not Interested. I'm not going to thumbs down a video just because I don't like the fact that You Tube's AI suggested a new "song" that really doesn't fit in my playlist. That's petty, the fools. Yeah, that was a Mr. T reference, booyah.
@Gakoranus5 жыл бұрын
I just think he tries to shows off too much in the mix. Takes away from the power of the original tracks.
@Dev_Astral5 жыл бұрын
Hm that's interesting. Honestly Except the second part of Singularity, where he introduces the hihats and drums a bit too fast and it takes away the more ambient part really harshly, and the slightly overmixed end part, I ve found the mix very impressive in its development. Emerald Rush was very impressing especially since he also plays the chords live !
