Fantastic explanation of what this attachment is for and how to think outside the box to get a proper adaptation done!

Like your content! It only takes a few minutes to take off .0005" ... .001" off the OD with some emery strips and a lathe. Not sure what you have available in your dungeon there, but I've been successful getting things to a suitable fit after turning it close. In the grand scheme of things if everything you have is 8mm, I'd probably use loctite for the sleeve and never have to worry about it, which would allow like that ring lock on the "lathe that didn't work" to lock it. </$0.02>

With a collet holding tail stock this is easier. nice lathes !!!!! Im up to 5 now.

Did the disc actually do anything though? In the closeup view.. looks like it was just in the way.

Shame there isn't a patent number. Google has a library of patents, descriptions & diagrams that would solve your mystery post-haste . I am getting into watches, I fixed up a Frankenstein'ish ladies Waltham 766 watch that we had kicking around in an old jewelry box. It was missing the crown stem & had a broken mainspring, hairspring & balance pivot. I bought some spare movements to get it running. I Bought another watch movement & case because it was a better example of it, the crystal & face were in fine shape & it had a higher jewel count. I found a dark blue velveteen & gold display case for it & used a steamer & heat gun & some polish to freshen it up . The engraved spring band I found was too short & allot of the springs were perished. I found another one that was white gold & the wrong color. So, I alternated the link colors to make it work. Turned out to be a fun project but Darn those parts are small!! I am looking forward next, to a Hoga direct time, self winding jump hour watch that could do with some nickel plaiting & a new leather band. I Got a really good deal on it & also scored a n.o.s lens to boot. Unfortunately though, its 3 weeks out from me coming from Pakistan....

My guess would be those 90 degree cross slots on those pin vises are simply to hold an object , screw or whatever at 90 degrees ( Right angle) to the main handle . Not positive though , but it could be used as such .

Nice fix for your lathe. Maybe figure out a way to easily index the tube so you don't have fiddle with finding the hole you need to drill in it.

I've seen those for sale listed as a "balance screw holder." I was with you, though, why is it flat if it's for holding a round screw head? But that's what I saw.

Should try a Seagull movement 28800 beat best ever

Do you think the drill bit will hold in place with it just being press fit in? Proof will be in the pudding or so they say. You will show it when it's fully operational I hope- it's an interesting set up for sure :)
