Carbon weakens from impact and you can never know if an impact shattered the binding structure without advanced tools.. aluminium is the way to go for anyone who cannot afford replacing your frame after every accident. I could never ride a carbon frame with confidence if I knew it had taken a hit previously.

@HAORGHGH aluminium gets micro cracks as well and they are even harder to to spot because you can't xray it like carbon. Also the welds fuck with the alloy so the properties on every pipe connection are pretty random. Carbon frames tend to take more damage when the frame gets an impact from like a rock or something but in general strength and reliability carbon is way superior. Park pros are gonna tell you the same when it comes to wheels.

I hope the adrenaline masked the bike turning into carbon dust, now I'm not sure if those are carbon fiber or carbon kevlar but I'd think the latter would be the best choice with the kevlar strategically placed around stress points but its just a guess, i ride steel and aluminum with carbon being above my pay grade anyway
@rickharper93813 күн бұрын
Coming from 10 plus years experience in the composite industry specifically Formula 1…Kevlar would be a bad choice of material in those stressed areas… Kevlar is tougher than carbon in certain applications but carbon is a lot stronger than Kevlar is. There likely just needs to be a few extra reinforcement plies in those areas or better bond perpetrations or adhesives used if it’s a bond join that has failed and in some cases supporting plies around the same bond joint. This particular bike had been battered for nearly a whole season and done 2 hardline races as well I believe… not bad for a prototype
