I Love my Shuttle SL, I just keep it on eco and I can't believe range I get out of it. I regularly ride with full fat e-bikes and yes they can put it in turbo and ride away on the climbs but I'm pretty sure I'll be the one that can keep going. Also rides great and it's far easier to get over a gate or fence, that few kg makes a big difference to me on the trail and moving the bike around.

Impressive bike! In particular, looks, climbing performance, weight. A real tribute to the overall ride quality if you say the Shuttle SL feels better than your other trail bikes. My only caveat would be the integrated battery. Although it helps making the down tube very light, it is not for everyone. On a recent 3 months backcountry trip, I often charged my 2 TQ batteries (360Wh 4A chargers) in coffee shops. 2.5 hours and ready for another 80-100 miles of riding.

I think I already know how the story ends. “The AM is heavier and thus less playful, but more powerful and goes all day. AM longer travel can charge down the rough stuff. In the end all depends on where and how the rider likes to ride.” How did I do? 😂

Your tests sre the best. I wonder what did change. Did Pivot tuned up the Fazua? Did the energy usage go up? This is the performance i was expecting from Fazua. I find the TQ power not enough for ny needs (out if shape old man here) so i was expecting the Fazua a bit punchier, but your previous test indicated they were very dimilar in performance.

Great information. I have an early version of this bike and I’m curious what “issues” you’re watching for that you’ve heard about. My motor feels a little drag while climbing, but it’s intermittent-and the sound is noticeably louder when it’s dragging. As you discovered, I compared this back-to-back with the Fuel EX-e, and the Shuttle SL felt much livelier even they both are 50nm, except for the temporary boost of the SL, which I don’t count. And yes, I made sure the EX-e was adjusted to full power in the app. Interesting.
@EMTBReview

That's one of the reported issues that i heard about. Dragginess caused by an errant torque sensor. The other problems are with the ring controller. I believe they are discussed here in this Facebook Group facebook.com/groups/pivotshuttlesl

My understanding is that 60nm is only available for a few seconds, but for sustained riding, the max is 50nm.

Regarding the time differences of other fazua powered bikes, you could test one of them with latest fazua firmware, or atleast list which firmware you test with. That could help to identify the gap. 😛👍🏼

I did get a chance to demo this bike for a day, my only issue was the cheap feeling motor power switch and the integrated frame LEDs. For 12K bike i expect more. Also how does the top tube pop up usb handle weekly washes after rides, or having your bike on your rack driving through rain. Sealed would be my option. The choice of components, wheels brakes, just perfect. Compared with Specialized selling a 10k+ with sram rs brakes, very poor choice. The rear also felt firm, not as plush as the orbea or levo sl. The tech told me that was a characteristic of the DW link. Which helped with tech climbs. Personally I prefer more travel, 150 vs 132. It rode like it had 132, not as forgiving on the steeps. It would be nice if the higher priced bike companies invested in developing more bespoke integrated tech. It feels like a lot are just slapping in a motor, battery and calling it day. A push button speed controller with solid feel buttons would go a long way vs that cheap feeling dial. At least for 12K, a nice used car.

The prices of Ebikes here in the UK have been reduced down to around 40% right across the board 😜 But it seems in the US Ebikes are still over priced, maybe here in the UK there's a lot more Ebikes for sale so competitors are competing 😁

I am deciding this week between an Orbea Rise M-team and a comparable Shuttle SL. I’ve ridden the Rise and loved it but have never ridden a Shuttle SL and the local shop doesn’t have one to demo. Price isn’t a huge concern because these things are all stupidly expensive but Pivot is $11K and I can get the Rise at 25% off so $7.5K. You’ve ridden both. Any words of advice? Both seem very nice.
@smckenna12
@smckenna12 9 ай бұрын
I've had both. The Shuttle SL is one of the best handling bikes I've ever ridden. At least regular trail riding. It 'feels' like an analog bike with a little assist. The only drawback in the Fazua motor which is extremely buggy and the ring controller which is terrible. I loved my Rise M10. I don't think it is as sharp handling as the Pivot, but it isn't far off. The biggest upside over the Pivot is the Shimano is way more powerful and seems to have a lot less issues, especially if you don't unlock it.

Be great to see@@EMTBReview I bet it'll be a rocket ship, but use a decent % of the (relatively small) battery. Be good to see it tested at a lower tune (maybe how the are shipping it?), kind-of emulating the Orbea w/EP8RS See if the big motor - flatter torque range pans out here too...

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I don't care how fast my eBike is. I ride my EXe in eco mode 99% of the time anyway. I just need a little boost to get to the top of our long Colorado climbs. Also, I wouldn't give up the nearly silent TQ motor for a little extra boost. I do, however, wish the EXe battery lasted longer.

Interesting that the Orbea Rise was the fastest SL in your mile hill climb, I wonder if the full fat EP8 motor helps, even if it is detuned. Could allow for better maps as there is more capacity.
@EMTBReview
@EMTBReview 9 ай бұрын
Yes, most definitely. They capped the torque at 60 nm but what that means is it has a very flat torque curve that hits 60nm early and stays there for a wide range of rpms. So it seems to handle tough loads with ease as it just hums along and actually doesn't consume too much power. The only mystery is why no other bike manufacturer other than Orbea used a detuned Shimano EP8

@@EMTBReview while the power is great compared to other 50-60nm motors I feel that the Shimano RS is less appealing because it’s 0.8kg more than true mid power/SL motors. If it has the full weight of a full power motor give me all the power! Now Orbea have a 540Wh battery option a non RS motor should be possible. Many options and trade offs for sure (in theory anyway). Orbea did a great job making a light bike despite the higher motor weight. Maybe not many other companies see it as worthwhile or possible with their concept. The Giant Elite concept of full power with modular approach for range with modest battery plus extender makes sense to me if you want lightish weight bike with a full motor. More weight than a true SL but the difference is very small in actual ride feel on most trails. Maybe it’s the Goldilocks approach, time will tell if more bike options appear to judge more than one brands attempt. I haven’t found the lower weight enough of an upside to offset the reduced power compared to my Levo Gen3 but super interested as new options come along. Oh and the new pinion MGU with a belt would be cool in my often muddy trails.
@vidibites
@vidibites 9 ай бұрын
@@glencompton2949 agree and probably why Orbea were the only brand to use it, as they were one of the early SL. I suspect a lot was down to timing with new tech coming out. TQ, Fazua & Brose. It is surprising how it’s one of the lighter bikes though, it must have cost them quite a bit extra in high grade carbon and part upgrades to lower the overall weight.

@EMTBReview
@EMTBReview 9 ай бұрын
I'm a huge believer in Versions when it comes to ebikes because there is so much to develop and learn. So for emtbs, Specialized is farther along than Santa Cruz, especially with mid-power bikes. They're in their 4th year already on the Levo SL and the new one is very good. Santa Cruz just entered with their Heckler SL and it seems like a very good effort. Geometry and ride quality are spot on. The Fazua Ride 60 is a better motor too with better power and range. It just needs to prove its longevity and reliability.

It’s pretty easy to understand if you’re not trying to find fault. The point he was making is that Pivot was the first to release a bike with the Fazua motor in the U.S. that a consumer could actually buy. I appreciate the knowledge he shares, and he’s professional enough to reply with kindness when some don’t give him the same courtesy. Sorry for the rant, but Francis doesn’t deserve the snarky comments for the time and effort he puts into trying to help his viewers.
