There is a bill that would allow outdoor dining to become a permanent fixture in New York City, but it has not been voted on. Ya-Ting Liu, NYC's chief public realm officer, and James Mettham, president of the Flatiron Nomad Partnership, discussed the topic on PIX on Politics Sunday.

It is so easy to do, take the cars off the streets and give the land back for the people in the neighborhood to use. Provide public transportation, get the people out of their individual boxes, and create a vibrant living community. This lust for your own car, keeps you in the poor house, and then you do not have the money to go out and eat. People out on the streets keeps a neighborhood safe. No cars gives it such a quiet feel. This is the type of place I want to be.

Absolutely! After all, when NYC was first designed, the sidewalks were wider than the street

Why would I want to eat outside? As a matter of fact, why would I want to eat at a restaurant when I can cook real food at home?

It’s lovely but the rat and bug problem needs to be addressed.

Smokey skies aren't going away. After the forests are all burned off, the air won't be any better.

But smoke is going to fill the skies for most of the summer until the forests are gone. The air will never be pleasant after that. Don't invest in the outdoor anything.

Seems unsafe. God forbid some drunk driver plows into one of these. They seem very precarious, especially those with traffic on both sides!

6:20 I think you’re right. An dining island in the middle of a busy street seems dangerous. Surely there’s a better way?

Outdoor dining makes the already crowded and small street hard for pedestrians to walk

No it doesnt. Cars taking up 90% of the street is what makes it harder for pedestrians.

Cars kill, and the ecosystem needs killing, so that space belongs naturally to the cars. I have met the Americans and nobody can survive your cars.

"People voted with their feet and wallets. Neighbors have been trying to be heard, but are silenced. It's all about free/cheap space on public property. No concern for Neighbors or other businesses.

So like how people park and leave their cars for free on public property? 🤔

@@yuriydee cars move. These sheds have been permanently there. Cars do not obstruct sight lines. Cars are not really the issue in most neighborhoods. Besides, put meters. Then it wouldn't be free.
