Last May, Belgian school HELHa invited us to attend a series of conferences by Pixar President Jim Morris. Thanks to this opportunity, we were able to ask Jim Morris about his career, spanning almost 200 movies at ILM and Pixar, how he feels looking back at projects that didn't meet up expectations (John Carter which he produced, Lightyear), his day to day work, technology, AI at Pixar, how Pixar became a more diverse company, the future of streaming, Pixar's carbon footprint, stylized animation.
We also asked him about HELHa and Jean-Yves Arboit, who is teaching CG at HELHa and is a long-time friend of Jim Morris.

Super interview ! Est-ce que le problème avec Buzz l'éclair était que les gens s'attendait à quelque chose de proche de la franchise ou que le scénario était vu et revu, oubliable et décevant? (Sans parler du chara qui ressemble à Doom 😂 ) Est-ce que le problème de John Carter of Mars était l'attente de l'audience, le marketing, ou encore un scénario tiède calqué sur une recette vu et revu et des personnages tout à fait oubliable ?

Pour John Carter, le côté déjà vu correspond justement à ce qu'il explique : comme l'oeuvre littéraire d'origine est ancienne (années 40) et a inspiré de très nombreux cinéastes et créatifs, l'adaptation sur grand écran semblait du coup déjà démodée pour le public de l'époque qui ne la connaissait pas, mais connaissait tous les films qui avaient puisé dedans.

@@3dvfMag j'ai vraiment l'impression que les deux films souffrent du syndrôme "film cahier des charges" mais bon... Je n'ai pas lu le matériau de base concernant JCM donc je n'en dis pas plus 😅

And from the 40s till the 80s they focused on the opposite ala the Hays Code. Correcting for bias now doesn't mean there wasn't a bias before. Also Disney almost flopped in the 80s and 90s and it had nothing to do with "wokeism" so please.
