The fact that the Samsung with its battery size compites toe to toe with the Pixel which has a weaker processor and a bigger battery and the iPhone 15 that has a 60hz display is amazing. Samsung did a great job this year with their S lineup.

They all did comparable, only 30 minutes difference, which doesn't change your life. That is very good for relatively compact phones with smaller batteries than their top-tier lineups. I have the S23 and can confirm it does warm up more than I expected, but never too hot. But relative to expectations in apps like Twitter, you can feel its warmth when I do not expect that. The iPhone had the best thermals but, again, no game-changer. Obviously, with nearly a 40% larger battery, I expected the Pixel 8 to be 2+ hours better than the iPhone, but the Tensor 3 is less efficient than the newer chips in the iPhone. 120Hz will make little difference as many apps run at 60Hz (camera, video, benchmarks), and even Twitter and Instagram will only use 120Hz for a fraction of a second per scroll. I would be happy with any of these, as 8+ hours is about twice my daily need! Great job!

phenomenal video i know who to find when i need to see a battery comparison now. i just have 2 suggestion the first is that you should check temps on the whole phone including the sides and the backs and in different points. the second suggestion is that make another video using the most optimized settings on all phones which does not affect user experience which includes the light performance profile on samsung or using 1440p phones with 1080p setting but not changing the refresh rate cause it makes a huge impact on user experience. i think the people who really care about battery life would like to see the best they can get from a phone without sacrificing the experience. thank you.

This is pure awesome. One additional thought is that you could just create a graph at the end how much battery power each app drained. I'm not gaming, but using web and YT/Music a lot. I could go back and check how much % that app used up, but a neat graph is easy to make and read. FYI YT: 9%, 5%(!), 9%, YT music: 7%, 6%, 5%. Again, thanks for the review, you shall become a top reviewer here.

Great stuff buddy. Suggestions: 1. Change settings so that display stays on always. 2. Try to match refresh rates like you matched brightness as it may have impact on consumption. (That would be fair since otherwise iPhone has an advantage as its only utilizes 60Hz while others push almost double of this)

why change the refresh rate, 90% of users won't use their phone with 60hz. The iPhone has a significantly smaller battery, the androids should have the advantage. Seems like it barely does with 1k mAh more.

I had sim cards in there but the data plans didn't activate properly for some reason. Hey, thanks for all the work and it was a great job though I have to say because you use just Wi-Fi doesn’t really represent real world use as the modem on the pixel 8 is definitely inferior to the modem that are on the galaxy and the iPhone and I’m saying yes as a person who has a pixel eight, so not hating on the pixel, but these results would be a lot different. If you use data. I understand using data would be difficult. You’d have to have three of the same chips on the same carrier but that would be a real world use. This is actually testing how these phones work on Wi-Fi not realistic every day use.

And? Will never understand this argument, like for example, the Pixel have a bigger screen and can draw more power, and all phones have different build quality, those are things that impact the battery time, not only the size of the battery, and of course the OS optimization.@@ketz555

3DMark drained S23 because although it's much more efficient chip when it's on low power demand but as soon as you want it to supply power it's right there and more power requires more energy hence drained more battery...

I'm considering these 3 models and I'm confused by the final results as I've read very awful reviews about Pixel 8 consumption under cellular data. Maybe the issue is only under 5G, do you know nothing about?
@LoverOfTech

It’s always hard to test battery drain indoors on 5G or even 4G as I have no control of how good the indoor signal is for Data compared to just a cellular call so most of the time in such a test people who do it like myself almost have no choice but to use WiFi or else there will be constant buffering and slow down

I really am thinking about getting the pixel 8 pro but I’ve always had an apple. I don’t use FaceTime that much other than friends here and there. I love pictures so that’s why I’m leaning towards the pixel, please lmk ur thoughts and if I should. (I haven’t used android in a couple years)

@@LoverOfTech I think I will! It’s gonna be a little different to get used to it but you gotta test them out and see how it feels. If I don’t like it I can always trade it in for another apple etc. ( I can also use my iPad for FaceTime too!)

Google is so underrated, I got the iPhone 15 and the battery is terrible after only about 2 months of having it and the amount of times it gets so hot to even hold is crazy. Definitely gonna go back to a Google

Great battery test. Were the batteries on all 3 of these phones relatively new? I know the Pixel 8 just came out just over a month ago. Were the other 2 phones batteries about the same age? Seems like the best performance I get from a new phone battery is in the first 6 or so months then its a slow decline over time.

Isn't running 3DMark unfair? If the scores mean nothing in this test then why let some CPUs push harder than the others? I feel like this part just punishes faster CPUs. Also 3DMark is not an app you would use daily like the others, I would replace this with an internet browsing test instead. Having said that, I think this was a really good test, awesome job sir!

really surprised with the pixel, i have seen so many other reviewers posting 4-5 hrs SOT. i don't understand how this managed to go that long. is it because it ran on wi fi ? i really want to buy a pixel but i am on the fence because of the battery life reports.
