Yyyeeesss me too!! I didn’t realize it at all but maybe that’s I started the fights not because I wanted to but because I was so tired of the other abuse I would hit him and we would fight. But I also thought I was trapped and he’s was my sons father. I’m married now and we don’t fight like that at all. The other abuse abuse I endured made me want to fight. But I learned from it all🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

I'm so impressed with you, Nate. That was a very personal story to share. Unfortunately some people feel shame, even after they're out of the potentially dangerous relationship. When I was in my early twenties, my boyfriend, at the time, and I had an argument in my apartment. He got angry and pushed me to the floor. I broke things off immediately. I told my mother, who made it sound like it was my fault. I actually half believed that after she said it, then I told my dad ( dad and I were very close), he went ballistic and started for the door. I stopped him. Violence is never the answer, even when people who love us, want to protect us. I told dad I was alright, it was settled. We left it at that.......but I was shocked to learn, several years later, that one of my older sisters was in an abusive relationship. Again I went to dad, because this time, my sister didn't live in the same province (I'm Canadian), I knew dad couldn't touch the guy, but he called my sister and got the guy on the phone. My father had one of the deepest voices I have ever heard and when he got angry, he could put the fear of God in people. So he talked to that guy and told him if he ever hit my sister again, he would kill him. Dad wouldn't hurt a fly, but the guy didn't know that. Anyway, my sister ended her relationship. But seriously, Nate, although I don't know you and my opinion doesn't matter, I am truly proud of you for speaking out and shining a light on domestic violence. I'm honored to be a part of your BGA crew.🤗🤗

Hey Nate, thank you so much for sharing your story. I was in an abusive relationship for 10 years and it's scary because it gets to a point where they stop apologizing and turn everything around on you. At that point it gets scarier. They literally change your own opinions of yourself and makes you feel insane. Someone spoke out to me about DV and it opened my eyes. I grew up hearing people say that love and marriage was hard and a lot of work so I thought it was normal. I've found true love now and it's honestly a lot easier than I thought. I'm so sorry you ever went through that but know your story will reach someone and help make them aware and for that I thank you

I don't know if this is considered being abusive but my ex used to tell me that he was only with me because he felt bad for me and that nobody would ever want me. He told me that if I didn't lose weight and go to the gym with him he was gonna leave me. He was telling me how to live my life and he managed my money even though we didn't live together telling me what I couldn't and couldn't buy. He started to use drugs and I didn't approve of that, I told him I was going to leave him if he didn't stop and he said go ahead ain't nobody want you anyways. I sticked around for 2 years till I said enough is enough. He is now in jail. After years of looking for the right one I am now happily married to the love of my life who has shown how a woman is supposed to be treated and loved, we have a sweet baby boy. One thing I've learned Is NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS.

I had a similar experience with my ex. I was also blinded by love. He didn't care about me or our family. He would do messed up stuff & then shower me with love as a sorry. He would have these crazy temper outbursts and unfortunately our son witnessed one if the worst, (he is 3). He legit grabbed a knife from the kitchen and started to tried to stab himself. I ran over and tried to put the knife away and he turned the knife on me. I was so scared for myself and my son and had to convince him to put it down. I did exactly what you did and loved on him and held him like a kid. He would always do shit like that but this was different & almost could have cut me or worse. I loved him so much but happy to be out of that house. Now I look back & realized how bad that situation & relationship was. He is off living his life & I'm trying to rebuild mine for my son now.

You have no idea how close to home this hits for me right now. Currently going through a divorce and custody battle with my husband- DV situation, I’ve been making excuses for his behavior for years but since I had my daughter mid-2020, it has been escalating and I had to get us away, I had enough. Luckily I have my parents help and support and my heart breaks for those who don’t have help or aren’t able to get away. I’m so sorry you went through that and thank you so much for sharing your story

Thank God for my cousin that helped me get out of the relationship otherwise I'd probably not be here today.

that was a pretty heartfelt story you told us. my mom went through some similar things w significant others she’s had and i’ve also dealt w it because of the trauma her crazy exes gave me. so i somewhat understand where you’re coming from because i’ve seen it happen to my mother. my mom also still has contact w the man who assaulted us and her which i don’t understand but after watching this i kind of do. the man is very narcissistic and has insulted my mom lots of times on the phone. i hope one day she will be like you and cut him off because it hurts me too, because it’s not love. she also says what he did was a mistake and he didn’t mean it but i do not think so. so thank you for opening my eyes nate. 💕
