Fitting a ‘TekMount’ for a phone/gps above the TFT screen to a Gen 3 Triumph Tiger 1200/800.

Welcome to my channel if you’re new here, and a big thank you to my subscribers for being part of the growth in this channel.
In this video, I install the ‘TekMount’ for phone/gps unit, only suitable for Gen3 Triumph Tiger 1200/800’s, plus the UltimateAddons bracket for an iPhone case. The mount conveniently remains in the same position over the TFT cowl, even when you raise/lower the screen.
I saw the mount mentioned on the Facebook page of the ‘UK Triumph Tiger Owners Club’ 3D printed by John Galloway. This is a link to John's product webpage www.tekmount.co.uk

I found the Tomtom rider 550 bar mount supplied with the unit was perfectly strong indeed very strong so I’m not sure why I should need an extra fixing unit.

Quick question , what is the mount on your handle bar for the Garmin Sat Nav. I am hoping to do the same with my new 900 GT Pro that I am picking up tomorrow, also is the Garmin mount wired directly to your battery via a fused link. Many Thanks.

SatNav mount supplied by Triumph on purchase of bike. Yes, wired to batt via fused connections.

Will this work on the new 1200 with the manual screen height adjustment please?

Hi DB, it's unlikely. I have one of these 'Garmin Zumo XT Adapter for Triumph Tiger GT 1200' from marmac_1353 on eBay on order for my upcoming bike, as I've heard positive comments on the GT Pro FB page and it's a lot cheaper/lighter than the Evotech adaptor I had on my Gen3. Apparently, it will not effect screen adjustment...but will have to see. Alternatively, if all too heavy for adjustment with Garmin XT, I'll just leave in low position and then whack the screen deflector on top!

Looks like a tidy bit of kit. I’d be interested to know if you get much / any vibration through this. I tried mounting my Garmin to the plastic cover in a different way, but the Garmin was too heavy and I could not see the screen clearly for the vibration. In the end I shaped a bit of flat bar mild steel and using bolts, bolted this onto the pivot points for the screen bar, using bushes inside the spring so I could tighten these without snapping the fragile Ally cast. Zero vibration and nice and high, but not as neat looking for sure. Please keep us updated? Great video..... cheers....

Hi Jon, thanks for your comment chap. The "heavy Garmin" reason, is why I decided to just use the mount for my phone. I'll let you know if it vibrates, in due course 👍

@@YarroMoto How was the vibration? I need a system like this for touring, as the new Givi tank bag obscures my existing Quadlock bar mounted set-up.

Agreed, I’ve just added a Zumo XT and was too bouncy, so added Evotech mount Jon.👍

@@YarroMoto So the GPS was better using the Evotech mount? Is that the mount that attaches to the screen and so the mount goes up & down with the screen?

@@shegocrazy IMO, yes, the Evotech mount was my preferred mount and just used in anger on my 2,500 mile trip around Spain & Portugal...vid being edited now, so you will see for yourself shortly.

So, it's only held on by a couple of sticky pads? It'll be interesting to see if that fitting degrades any, as you repeatedly attach and remove your phone from there. Good video though, thanks!

Hi Phil, I think John has been running his bike with it for some time, during the planning stage of production but I'll certainly report if mine falls apart later. 3M stickers, stick like S*5t to a blanket though, plus it has the overlapping lips each side that grip the TFT cowl. Cheers, Paul.

The bracket halves are also folded into hooks at the bottom. They hook around the bottom edge of the shroud they mount on and once the bar is fitted I doubt they could come off unless something broke. The sticky pads look to be just for keeping it from vibrating around. I just received mine, I guess I'll find out how secure it is.

@@YarroMoto in any case, I suppose drilling two holes through the shroud and brackets in order to secure the mount in place with a couple of nuts & bolts (and washers?), would not be much of an aesthetic sacrifice on the shroud's behalf. Preferably mat black fasteners to maintain the dark discipline.

@@SsiolisP Hi Opa, yes, you could drill the shroud as suggested but personally, I couldn't/wouldn't do that as it will diminish the look/value of your bike. Anyway, as mentioned, the 3M sticky pads are STRONG and if the mount did become wobbly after a year or two, I would just add fresh 3M sticky pads. It's your call Opa but I suggest you try the recommended mounting method first. Cheers, Paul.

Please add your relevant comments below / contact John Galloway via the 'Triumph Tiger 800 and 900 Riders' group on FB...or purchase one on eBay via the link above. *First ride feedback...before your final assembly, wrap some black gaffer/insulating tape around the shiny bar to eliminate reflection on back of motorcycle screen, for when your phone/gps is not attached! ** Second ride feedback...there is very little vibration from my iPhone/UltimateAddons case setup with this TekMount.
