DISCLAIMER: I'm not going to be addressing the issue with the rental car company in the comments any longer. You were not there. You did not hear our conversations when we first got the car, where they told us the hair would not be an issue, nor our conversation with them when we dropped it off. All you hear is us talking about it, because that's all I filmed. IF we had the means to clean up ourselves out of courtesy we would have, but we didn't, and we can't go back in time to November and change it. The amount of hair was hardly concerning to begin with, and not worth a near $300 charge. You don't have to agree, but what's done is done.
Any more comments regarding this matter will be deleted.
onto our regular description :)
Join us for a looong day thing to get back home to Cali from our Disney World trip! This is old footage from back in November 2020, but is uploading late due to laptop issues. This was a very rough day, starting off with problems while dropping off our rental car, and accessibility issues with our plane. Then we end up being delayed and de-planed! Join us for this wild ride

Ridley is a multipurpose service dog in training. She is task trained to mitigate my psychiatric and physical disabilities. She is granted public access rights to enter non-pet friendly places via The Americans With Disabilities Act and California Disabled Persons Act. Bringing non-service dogs into non pet friendly establishments is illegal. Faking a service dog is a federal crime, and a misdemeanor in many states punishable by $1k+ in fines and jail time. Please do your research before bringing your dog into public to find out if they are pet friendly. Target. Walmart, Disneyland, and any theme park or store/establishment that sells food is NOT pet friendly.

So a couple things on the airline side. I used to work Delta mainly, but I worked united for a few years. We always moved service dog teams to bulkhead if available. That was a standard company wide at both. But next time you fly and they give you any crap at all, ask for a CRO or disability specialist. They can make the calls and override management if needed. They have the last say at the situation. But that gate agent is totally wrong. When you fly, the ADA covers somewhat, but the ACAA can be even more restricted. The CRO is a disability specialist in these. And DOT is very on it with any and all complaints. Way more so than the DOJ even. I was a manager and lead CRO at Delta at the end of my career here locally when COVID hit. So I delt with DOT and our disability department.

I fly with my service dog at least a dozen times a year. He wears a ShedDefender and it’s amazing Also, he’s a Bernese mountain dog so he’s VERY large. Due to his size, we always request a window bulkhead seat and every airline always accommodates our request. If a bulkhead isn’t available we are given a row to ourselves. That being said, we are often given an entire row in bulkhead or upgraded to business. Even though he is quite large, he has a great tuck and we only need one seat. We missed our boarding call once and had to sit in economy and we had passengers on each side of us. It was crowded but my fellow passengers were great. Thankfully it was a very short flight. I always try to keep our flights under 3 hours. We generally take multiple flights to reach overseas destinations. The airlines and crew are VERY APPRECIATIVE that my SD wears a ShedDefender & always compliment me for being considerate. It’s my disability but also my responsibility to be a great SD handler

When you are upgraded, do you know if it's due to a plane having empty seats or not being full? Or do you pay for the extra space?

@softly bloos my SD is a Bernese mountain dog and he wears a ShedDefender. I travel with 2 extras Also, request bulkhead window when you book your flight thru special assistance. More than likely you’ll get the entire row OR there will be an empty seat beside you. United is my favorite airline to fly with him but we’ve flown with 6 different airlines in total. He’s flown dozens of times. Try to keep flights under 3 hours so your larger SD doesn’t have to be scrunched up. It’s better to fly a couple hours and rest a few before getting on next flight IMO. We are expats

I always buy bulkhead since the courtesy of being moved there isn't guaranteed. Plus, there may be many people who need to fly in them, as well for their own issues. I prefer to pay for the seat that I want from the beginning since it makes it easier. I also travel with a "shed defender" on my dog to help with the fur since he is a GSD mix.

I have flown with my SD 4 times. They generally dont have big reactions if they are well trained. I give my SD ice for takeoff and landing to help pop her ears. Others use chews or other things to help. Bella my SD just lifts her head, looks around and goes back to sleep.

My dog didn't need anything for anxiety. The most important thing is that your dog with your dog is strong enough that the dog looks to you to know that everything is okay. He also doesn't chew on anything since he never does that when working. His choice. Even when I've given him the option.

@theservicehyena3088
@theservicehyena3088 7 ай бұрын
fair question! so prongs are used for many things, not just pulling. it’s a form of communication and/or correction. at this time ridley was very young and needed a lot more guidance than she does now, but prongs are helpful at any age and we still use it at times. this was also her first time at an airport, so there was a lot to experience for her and mistakes will be more common. i’m very light on her corrections as that’s what works for her, and nowadays a verbal correction usually does the trick. if not, the prong is there as a back up, including for safety. dogs are always learning, and any dog of any age can make mistakes. a gentle reminder and we’re right back on track :)

8:41 "they're service animals" "I know that but" gonna stop her right there. That is one of the most incorrect and condescending statements to say when you are so completely wrong. I understand that ADA doesn't apply on planes, but the Air carrier access Act does and it very very clearly states what the rules are for service animals. Yall mentioned you called ahead and that suggests you as handlers did everything correctly and were following the rules. (BTW they CAN now require you to harness your dog and have it on leash in the airport, even if your disability would normally prevent that, and on the plane which is asinine so if you faint. bring the long leash or have a signed form printed out with your agreement in writing if your disability requires off leash tasking. or better yet.... go by Grey hound or limo.... it'll still be cheaper and nicer than having to deal with air ports if your traveling in the states. Try ferries or charter a boat if you're traveling internationally.... These airlines are just becoming an even bigger problem than they have been and it's only getting worse now that even the passengers are becoming more and more volatile. I honestly dont feel safe flying any more and it has nothing to do with gravity and every thing to do with other passengers and flight crews. I've been hearing a lot of recent disturbing stories about how people with disabilities are being harmed, neglected, abandoned and stranded or worse by air lines or becoming victims of other passengers. It is asinine. They keep saying TSA is for our protection and yet these same airlines allow all of this while ticket prices get more and more expensive every year. I used to think flying was faster and easier than ground or water travel... but now I know differently.

I can kind of see how the car service rental place would want to charge you for cleaning up after a mess left in the car evsn if it is dog hair. I mean regardless if it's a disability or not if you make a mess anywhere you're usually responsible to cleaning up after yourselfs. I mean people make a fiss if you dont clean up after your dog if it went to the bathroom. If you rent a tuxedo and it gets messy, I'm sure the tux place would want to charge you for either replacing the garment or paying for cleaning services.

@@theservicehyena3088 They probably have something in the long font size 1 agreement you signed relating to how they release the car to you clean and it needing to be returned the same way or they would deduct it from a security deposit. @@theservicehyena3088 Is there anything anywhere that says that because the dogs are medical equipment that car rental places shouldn't charge you guys for cleaning services for their cars? When one is using ANY sort of public transportation with their service dog ,and really anywhere where other people are in an enclosed environment, it is just good manners to have your dog wear an allergy vest /shed defender, and keep your dog off the seats meant for people. In my experience, many people with service dogs rarely think of the people around them who ALSO may have a disability, i.e. may be extremely allergic to dog hair/saliva to the point of anaphlaxis. My own dog was a GSD, lightweight doggy PJ's and keeping her on the floor served her and the public well.

what you are doing is trying to fake a service dog. service dogs are medical equipment highly trained for years for people with disabilities like myself. faking a service dog is a federal crime punishable by jail time and heavy fines, and you dog can even be taken away. exploiting a system in place for disabled people is not the way to go just so your pet can travel with you. some airlines allow pets to travel in cabin in carriers. you can look into that. otherwise they can travel in cargo which is perfectly safe and usually the less stressful option so long as your dog is well crate/carrier trained.

Just to add on, the ADA also specifically states that neither allergies nor fear of dogs or any other personal reason is a valid excuse to discriminate against and withhold proper accommodations against those with service dogs, and it is the company’s duty to provide safe accommodations for both parties. If that means actually cleaning a car, which is the bare minimum for car rental services, then oh no! Guess that car’s going to be clean. So even if someone DID have allergies and was using the car immediately after, it is the company that needs to provide that accommodation to both parties without extra cost for medical reasons.

I'm not sure I agree with bringing in such a young dog to public would be the right choice, especially using a prong collar and at a theme park. Now if she's older than two, I think this is totally fine. I'm not fond of bringing dogs to such strange places like theme parks simply because in training there's no way to get a dog acclimated to those kinds of sounds and elements. The ideology of "because you can doesn't mean you should". In your description, you had said SDiT which means you don't have a service dog and she's still training. There's evidence of stress and not coping well. But of course, do what you need to. It's not like any of us really know what going on but my experience tells me certain things I've come to know. umm service dogs NEED to start training at a young age. program dogs literally start training as soon as they’re able to walk. service dogs typically aren’t even fully trained until they’re at least two years old. you clearly don’t know how the critical period of desensitization and socialization works. if we all waited to train service dogs until they were 2yo the vast majority would wash out because they weren’t started young, and they wouldn’t be fully trained until 4yo. which is already half of some dogs lifespan. it’s already a known fact that older dogs are less likely to succeed as a service dog than those started young. not impossible, but far less likely. prongs are fantastic training tools, and she’s literally been training at theme parks since she was 6mo. there are plenty of ways to acclimate a dog to a theme park, which we did since she came home to me. the biggest way being eventually oh i don’t know, going to said theme park?? if in your mind a dog can’t go to a theme park until they’ve been fully acclimated to it, then no dog can ever go to a theme park. the training you can’t do elsewhere happens AT the theme park. i’m not “bringing my dog to a theme park”. i’m DISABLED and I AM going to the theme park, because that what’s i wish to do. my necessary medical response service dog comes with me. in both my state and in florida, service dogs in training have full public access rights. once she had public access and task training and was a service dog in training, we began non-pet friendly public access just like every other team. pls explain to me your “evidence” of stress in my video. considering this is a video of literally her first time ever in that specific park and her second time on a plane, i’d really like to see a single dog not show a single sign of discomfort doing this exact same thing.

If you knew the dogs would leave hair in the car, why not do something about it instead of automatically pulling the "the ADA says we don't have to pay for something we did" card? Put a blanket or towels down, or, better yet, clean up the mess you left behind. The people who work at the dealership now have to spend their time cleaning the car because you couldn't be responsible. I am moving on to my second service dog and not once have I ever felt entitled enough to have someone clean a mess my dog made, whether it be hair or something else. I know the ADA has your back, but why go all "it's illegal to charge us" when you knew 100% that the dogs would leave hair? That is irresponsible and a lame excuse. Being disabled does not put you above anyone else, especially when people already do so much to accommodate disabilities.

hi, our dogs are both shedding breeds. we do our best to keep them well groomed to leave behind minimal hair. we did not have blankets or towels. we also did not have lint rollers. they already have to clean the car, and should be deep cleaning right now because of the pandemic. they cannot charge extra for some dog hair. the fact you think this was any form of entitlement or use using any kind of “card” is just sad. “automatically”? you didn’t even hear the first ten minutes of our conversation because i simply wasn’t recording yet. we literally made them aware of the dogs and that they’d leave behind hair WHEN WE GOT THE CAR and they said it was fine. the dogs were in it only for short drives back and forth. if we had the time or supplies to clean it we would have our of courtesy, which i even mentioned in the video, but we had neither of those things.

Having a service dog that sheds a lot it can be difficult keeping hair off of things even with regular grooming (brushed every single day bathed every 2 or so weeks). I put down a sheet for my dog in the car when we go places but she still gets some hair everywhere even if it’s less than it normally would be. It’s difficult to control something like that even with regular grooming and proper “protection” for the vehicle. people don’t even think about shedding as a factor for this sort of thing because the cars should be deep cleaned all the time not just in a pandemic 😷 I guarantee if my service dog had been in the vehicle hair would be everywhere even with towels or a blanket or something. @@theservicehyena3088 Unfortunately it is using a card. If you leave a mess, you are still responsible for it. They can't ask much of you for that, but I still see it as overusing the cover of the ADA. Wheelchairs and oxygen tanks don't leave anything that needs cleaned, so in this case, yes service dogs are different. Doing something to take care of it isn't courtesy, it is responsibility for your actions. Instead of "they literally can't make us pay a cleaning fee," why not "the ADA states that we legally do not have to cover a separate cleaning fee, but if there is enough hair to be absolutely necessary, I would be happy to work something out." Most of the time, people change their minds and decide no, it really isn't a big deal, but it is so much easier to fight back against someone who is trying to get out of it. Then you are just standing up for your business. As someone who has had a working dog and will be getting another, I know the struggles and discrimination that comes with them, but please try to give a better impression of the community. So many handlers paint the entire community as entitled brats and people come to expect that from us. It is sad that so much can be done to avoid this, yet people pull up the ADA for everything that slightly inconveniences them. Towards the end of the video when you had another problem, you handled that nicely, so what was that about?
