A relative of mine served in Viet-Nam and shared with me stories of the ingenious traps the Viet-Cong set up. Not to kill, but maim/injure, so as to take an enemy out of action. I liked this story.

The best traps and weapons do not kill your enemy because for every injured but living soldier a second fully able bodied soldier has to stop fighting to tend his wounds and remove him from the combat zone. Infected wounds shows an understanding of this tactic.
