This review made my mind up back in December to purchase a 69 plate 8 month old 318d sport, from Williams BMW. I'd owned an Astra for 10 years delivered new from the factory, but it had suffered numerous problems and several recalls. I'd been eyeing up the 3 series for the last couple of years. This model was perfect for me as I wasn't after a performance car, just something that looks great and cruises efficently on the motorway. It still has penty of overtaking power. I did want the same colour as in your video, but settled for black as the one I purchased was going for a steal (likely attributed to a slump in sales over lockdown). Never having owned a black car before I've learnt it's a lot of work keeping the paint looking good and free of swirl marks. Overall a great car and the wife and kids love it with all the phone and tablet charging points. The only minor things I can pick out are: -No android auto on the smaller infotainment screen. This is unless you go for a higher spec option, but the built in maps are very good. -The boot will open if the fob is in range, and get soaked with rain as I've experienced if it gets pressed in you pocket. Easily sorted by buying a signal blocking pouch from Amazon for a fiver. -The fob battery runs down very quickly if in range of the car, as the car and fob seem to talk constantly if kept close. Again solved by a signal blocking pouch, and also reduces risk of theft. It was nice to see an independent review and opinions that covered the more practical aspects of the car. Not just measuring the size of the bottle holders on the doors, shoving a stick up the exhaust and forcing the humour like carwow.

Thank you for this, this type of comment really makes what we do worth it - also the additions of things we weren’t able to cover or you found after ownership - together helpful comments like this make it a conclusive guide for people looking at buying this BMW, thank you Northern once again you’ve made our day. *B

@@PlanetautoUK It's been running beautifully since December purchase. It did suffer a problem with the clutch (manual transmission) master cylinder. Called BMW roadside assistance and they towed it 150 miles to the dealership and had it sorted within a few hours, delivered back to my home by about 7pm long after dropping me off. They'd even done some pretty up in the body shop. Definitely a thumbs up for BMW from me. The car has been purring again since.

Greetings from Bavaria, great video! Thanks a lot! I have the previous version of the 18d in the 1 series with rear wheel drive and it does so well! Now with the biturbo it probably continues there where it stopped before. I'm actually surprised about the fuel consumption, it's just amazing. I have a manual gearbox and I admit, I'm kind of a sporty driver, still I rarely am under 5.5L/100km. Seems like a great car, can't wait to drive it some time!

Thank you, yes consumption has come along way and like us you prefer performance to economy, you should *ben

Or.... An Octavia 2.0 tdi for half the price and pretty much the same driving experience for most people on a day to day basis munching motorway miles. After all - who really wants white leatherette seats and a 360 camera? Good review - really like how you guys present your test drives.

Thank you, that’s the thing it’s horses for courses, many other cars offer a similar experience, there’s just something about the 3 that well..., you just have to experience it for yourself.

Understood - it does look a lovely motor but £38k seems a lot for the 318D which used to be thought of as a Rep's special...

The G20 3 series. What a great car it is. It’s looks are true to BMW and it’s good to see that played it safe with this model. I am glad the 3er is rwd I like the new f40 1er. I’m glD you like the performance of the B47 which is also used in the 320d (with the obvious power difference). I’d have to get the B57 330d if I went for the black stuff, as it’s a 6 cylinder unit, and the 6 cylinder sounds a lot better too :D I hope bmw lends you the m340 soon and the g21 touring. :) exciting times :D Cheers

It’s good to see a review of a G20 with a standard IDrive 6 rather than the new IDrive 7 which is only available on M Sport in the UK. Cheers.

There’s also the 318d with the 6-speed manual transmission, but I advise to avoid it at all costs, unless you’re using it for driving lessons.
@PlanetautoUK3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, this has us intrigued - is it due to the clutch or box?
@DaveDVideoMaker3 жыл бұрын
I’d just advise avoiding it. The automatic suits BMWs better.

NP. I’ve seen Ashley Neal from Liverpool drive the G20 320d with the manual, although he prefers driving automatics. He’s got an F80 M3 with the DCT transmission.

I don't think you have adaptive suspension on this model, so saying that it changes suspension is totally wrong!
