In the time it takes to watch this video, one team won $1million
When the SailGP show rolled into town in San Francisco for the Season 3 Finale there was one key question being asked…..Who was going to join the Australians and Kiwis in the million dollar final?
Barring any boat breaking dramas, throughout the season the two Southern Hemisphere teams had clocked up enough points to secure their positions in the Season 3 showdown already.
So, would it be, the British or the French? The pair were separated by just one point.
Ben Ainslie, Tom Slingsby, Hannah Mills, Quentin Delapierre and Peter Burling give their analysis of the key moments from the weekend while Matt Sheahan provides an overall view of the final and crucial event in SailGP Season 3.

Thanks for this coverage mate, the rest of the media have barely mentioned it. Nice to see a decent breakdown of the series final. Slingas is the man. 👍

Slingsby totally bossed it. Ainslee outclassed.

Indeed - my overall impressions of season 3 are that the fleet is more competitive than ever, with the Kiwis and French the most improved and likely to be the main threats to the Aussies next season. If only the finals were fleet races, which I think are more exciting than the three boat format.

@@nickc9375 I really thought the kiwis were the main threat coming into the final. Some suggestion that they were sandbagging during the fleet races - not sure about that - but man they came close in the final. I'm aussie so very happy for Tom and the team - but next year my money is on the kiwis

Did you hear the Ozzy cry go out as Tom and his crew, Team Australia crossed the finish line ... Aussie, Aussie, Aussie - Oi , Oi , Oi . 1🇦🇺Aus, 2🇳🇿NZ, 3🇬🇧GBR. As we all know there's no secrets in SailGP. Best team on the day or should I say season wins.

For Ben to loose the start so badly and get caught in a rookie hook maneuver, he has done himself so often to others, is not what we expect from this expert. It’s impossible to win if you start late in this racing especially as the first turning mark is to a down wind leg where the rich get richer. If they must have a reaching start then it need to go into long upwind leg next so the start is sailors have a chance of recovery . It would be better closer racing. Or let’s try it is a practice or whatever and find out. Cheers Warren

"Sir" Ben Ainslie lost six of six starts against the Italians in the Prada cup finals. Was hooked twice.

I believe the weather/winds were passing showers and non trade winds on Friday and Saturday with clearing trade winds on Sunday.

Trade winds?

@@sanfranciscobay I've never heard this usage before, although it is not inconsistent with the original meaning of the term, which is similar to "habitual." Typically, it refers to the SE and NE trades, which blow year round although stronger in winter. I'm not objecting, but could you point me to another source for this? I'd be interested.

@@terrulian Trade Winds are also called Prevailing Winds.
@terrulian
@terrulian Жыл бұрын
@@sanfranciscobay Prevailing winds is a common term for our summer westerlies, sent to us from the Pacific High. But I've never seen trade winds in writing, or even in conversation. Anyway, no big deal at all, but if you come up with a source I'd be grateful if you'd pass it along, as I'm interested in sailing terms and their origins, both traditional and contemporary.

Не понимаю, зачем поднимать-опускать крылья только для того, чтобы снизить сопротивление, вместо того, чтобы сделать крылья с регулируемым углом атаки и регулировать этот угол атаки по необходимости?

I normally love PlanetSail but this one is a nonsense. It should have been called how "The Brits lost yet another event to Slingsby's team and how bloody good they were...."

Ainslie is looking somewhat 2nd rate these days…..past glories seem a distant memory…..yes he still wins a race here and there, but Burling and Outtridge are head and shoulders above Ainslie.

I'm sure Sir Ainslie has forgotten more about sailing than we will ever learn - but it has been over a decade since his victorious Finn days - but he sucks up all the oxygen in the room in British male sailing other younger folks who have had more success can't even make the transition to crew/big boat/AC sailing.

The price purse is only 1m 😂😂 aren't the boats like multi million dollar boats 10s of millions in some cases....... the equivalent of this would be if u won the xgames and received 100$ on a giant af check 😂😂😂 its almost offensive as its not even the cost of the equipment needed to compete😂😂 and isnt there a big entry fee too 😂 the 1 mil is a joke 📠📠📠
