Lovely video! I like that you’re using old stock for your planning next year. I’m also comforted I’m not the only one who makes notes on what planners to get. Pros and cons, if you will. I don’t have old stock to go through, as I’ve been only a Erin Condren user for the prior 6 ish years. This year got SO out of hand with trying out everything. But I do believe I have it paired down to what will work for me! The A6 Aura Estelle Catch All, A6 Hobonichi 1/2 years and a Weeks are a must for me next year. It’s been a nice new development for me to be able to separate work, personal, and my sons schedule after so many years of one BIG planner. LOL. I do have my B6 Stalogy I’ll never change for my personal writing journal. I do love the B6 and B6 Slim sizes for my writing style. Best of luck on your adventure. I’m happy to have found you, as I seem to have similar preferences in my planner format choices 😊

There is something "mania" in buying planner stuff. People have for example so much stickers that they should be living to 300 years old so they could use them all 😁 I do also use a big part of my planners to write pros and cons of some planners to help me to decide 😬 That's pretty insane, I think 😵‍💫Though I'm not able to buy almost anything nowadays because my budget when studying. So there are also _many_ fomo-items in my wishlist! The date stickers... I have been thinking the cost of them: if one month's stickers cost appr. $2 it will be a cost of a new planner 💁‍♀ Great video anyways and very current, thanks!

Lots of great points. Instead of mania, I think it’s the creative side of this hobby.😅 we are visionaries and see so many things we can do with other planners. I did enjoy trying different planners, but now I feel like I know what I want and there’s no need to buy 20 more.😁 thanks for watching.

I just joined some planner destash groups (as I am setting up some frankenplanners and was looking for inexpensive supplies). HOLY COW. There are people who are "destashing" literally 100 Happy Planner sticker books at a time! Sure, I bet some people buy the entire clearance rack and then re-sell at a profit--and if that's your business--and some people are probably ambassadors or influencers who get stuff for free, but there cannot be that many people in those situations who are literally selling 100+ sticker books each time they post. One idea for redating: get some blank white stickers (like labels or label sheets) and use those to cover the labels, then you can write the new dates in or use a stamp or something. If you are a member of a local Buy Nothing group or similar, you might be able to borrow a set of stamps and an ink pad. Another idea: get some magazines and cut the numbers out of there, tape over old numbers. These ideas add a little bulk, but it didn't bother me when I did it.

Love this video, I've also been trying to get off the overconsumption train. Before getting into the planner community I always bought a cheap monthly planner at the drug store and used notebooks for the rest. I'm slowly getting back to that place, my needs have changed a bit but I just got a $12 planner from Walgreens for a project planner recently as opposed to ordering something 3 times the price. I'm actually happier in this $12 happy planner with no frills and a companion notebook that I've been in anything I've ordered and waited for in a long time.

The thought of buying a 2024 planner right now in July baffles me. I’m wishing time would slow down, Im not trying to be eager for 2024. I’ll buy that in late November or December. I don’t need a 2024 planner now. For what? Jan 2024 is still months away. Consumerism is real. I only have 1 planner but I have a lot of art supplies I need to use up and empty notebooks.

This video really resonated with me! I’m actually going through the exact same thing. I have this week off work, and I’ve used it to SERIOUSLY destash. I’ve been in the same book (Hobonichi Weeks) all year, and it’s working for what it needs to be - my place to map out my monthly -> weekly events and tasks. I’m trying to let go of anything that isn’t that size! I too purchased most of my stash in 2020. I feel like being at home all the time (with a young baby at the time, too), I turned to consumerism as a way to imagine the life I wanted to live when I couldn’t live it! I bought SO MANY THINGS during that time that ended up just gathering dust. It’s felt so good to let them go! I love your idea of scrap-booking the decluttering journey! What a great motivational tool

I’m just over here doing my own thing, and not stressing over what I’ll use next year. I’ve been using my stash, and it’s dwindling and I’m having fun using what notebooks I have. My first time seeing your channel. And, ohh, my goodness, in the first few seconds, I fell instantly in love with your voice and butter hands. (Not to worry, I'm a hetero female 😊) You remind me of my favorite ASMR channels: wholesome, natural, zero fakeness, a comfortingly slower pace & a gentle way with your love for journaling & planning. Much respect for your self-awareness about decluttering, using what you already have, and curbing mindless consumerism -- but without curbing your enthusiasm & individual self-expression! In fact, you may find that -- with the greater mental clarity, focus and energy that decluttering yields -- your creativity & self-expression are likely to increase! A clear, uncluttered mind feels great! 😃 So, I hope this video is seen by thousands. And that they are inspired & empowered to adopt similar practices. And the planet thanks you! @@Jenscraftsandjournals Like u, I was sooo on the verge of buying the undated Sterling-Ink A5 planner. (It legitimately hit 70% of my criteria. That planner is the closest, pre-made planner, to fit the bill. So, my need was very much practical, not for trend's sake.) So, in much frustration, I spent wks devising my own folio system tailored to fit my functionally-specific needs; but which was within my budget. I was in the early stage of experimenting w/my project when I came across ur video. So, you reinforced my convictions to use some of my stash. And, though my trial-and-error process was laborious & time-consuming, your video stayed with me. And, like you, I stuck to my guns. Now I have a system that's incomparably better, for my needs, than the (pricey) Sterling-Ink planner. It's imperfect, but it works. And I feel proud of my "creation"! So, I can very much relate to your sense of satisfaction with your own system for 2024! We're like planner/journaler/scrapbooking renegades! So, thank you again for your video, Jen! 😄 Plus, every conscious choice we make toward reducing our negative impact on the planet adds up, as a habit, & is absolutely essential. Thank you for sharing this video! Been experimenting with planners since forever. I was once a moleskine user and quickly became hobonichi, midori, muji, leuchtturm, etc user 😂 it’s always nice to support small businesses, but with new planner releases it’s easy to get caught up with them. Recently I’m a hobonichi weeks and traveler’s notebook (passport) convert and have already preordered a common planner weeks for next year. Though since hobonichi is currently sharing their line ups, it makes me wonder if I should buy another for next year 😅. However! A friend of mine gave me her extra a6 from 2020 and i’ve already dabbled with it..i’m in love with the size i may not have to worry about purchasing a new hobonichi for 2024 (except for maybe a cover-still debating). This video made me stop and reflect on what I have now. I used up all of my past journals in 2020 and now I have a new set 😂. I’m digging this idea again. Thank you!

I’m glad I found your channel, Jen. I’ve always used a single planner, but I started experimenting with new planners and multiple planners and watching videos on the subject about 2.5 years ago. Things got out of control quickly. 😂 I can only blame myself but watching KZfaq videos has definitely been a contributing problem. I’ve found a few people on KZfaq who are trying to shop their stash or be more mindful about their purchases. Spellbound notes and Sarah Martinez and now you. I plan to buy nothing for 2024 (except ink if I run out). I had redated a Cousin that I purchased with a cover last year. I’m redating a hobo weeks that my mom barely used. And I’m only using notebooks that I already own for morning journaling starting with ones I want to use the least to get them out of the way. I wish you luck and look forward to seeing your progress! Ps- use the 5 year! It’s really fun and easy to keep up with if you just pick a certain time of day to do it. I’m on year 2 and it’s interesting to see what was happening and what’s changed.

I was perfectly happy with m A5 disc planner, until I started watching KZfaq channels on planners! But, I tried to be smart and just bought blank notebooks to try out the paper and different sizes. I did binge on Traveler's Notebooks because I wanted to move into something more portable, and they had undated monthly and weekly inserts. I also liked the idea of the smaller page count, so I wouldn't feel wasteful if I "abandoned" a set up mid-year. I did buy a lot of Chic Sparrow covers (in different sizes), but I got them off Mercari, so very affordable. I like to have at least 4 covers, so I can switch them out by season. I actually made a spreadsheet tracking how many covers and notebooks I have in each size, and that was really eye-opening! No more notebooks and covers! No dated planners! I still watch the KZfaq videos, though, because I get lots of good ideas and inspiration for decorating my planners (something I never used to do) and incorporating memory-keeping into my notebooks.

This was a truly refreshing video. I have seen so many creators advocate for trying different planners in the same year once you realize that the one you have doesn't work for you. I stick within the same system for an entire year. Then I watch a bunch of planner review videos to see if I can see myself using it. My system for next year will include the Sterling Ink undated A5 planner (personal & work), an Erin Condren monthly planner for my budget, and some notebooks for different types of journals.

I think it’s a great thing to think about planners and consumerism. One thing I’ve seen people do is buy second hand planners to try a layout to see if it works - I’ve even seen some groups doing planner which is so cool. I try to fight the urge to buy by using discs and I have some printer paper that is my absolute favorite and good for my fountain pens (I print my inserts) so whenever something looks appealing I convince myself it won’t work with my system. The one exception is Hobonichi because I just absolutely love everything about those books so I use one as a journal. When it’s full my plan is to take out the pages and add them to my discs!

I'm finally at a point where i need something separate for work, but I cannot fathom using as many notebooks and planners as many people use (and definitely not as many as people own--holy cow, I have learned A LOT about hoarding on the destashing pages). I use a Hobonichi Cousin (2024 will be my fifth one, I think). I use my stickers and washi and fun pens there. For work, I'm frankenplanning a disc bound notebook and disc bound time book. I've purchased almost all of the guts/pages from destash pages, as well as the discs. (I already had the cover for the note book, and rings, and just bought extra filler paper--all of it was less than half of retail.) I did buy a nice cover for my new finance book, but I love it and can't imagine needing a new one for years. No need for me to go buy anything at the store means no temptations.

I pulled out a personal sized ring planner went on Etsy and purchased monthly pages and I’m going to use it. I have everything else I can go in it for next year 2024. I also have a blank journal and I’m going to use that because I like to journal most days as well so I’m only out of pocket for the Etsy monthly pages. Keep telling everybody that we should use what we have that’s all save some money.

That’s great! Yes Etsy has a lot of different sellers who sell printables. I am loading a video now sharing free printables and hopefully you can find something you can use with your setups. Thanks for watching.

I used a paper planner all throughout school until I finished my undergrad, then stopped until like maybe 5 years ago. During school the planners were given to us so there were no options. When I went to buy a planner I was shocked at how expensive they were. I think I started back with one from the dollarama for like $4 and then moved onto “fancier” ones when I realized I could get “nice ones” for like $15 at Costco & Winners. I just discovered the #plannercommunity in the last couple months. I thought I’d love it since I’m all about color coding and highlighters but I’ve mainly just felt like I’m not a real planner because I don’t have a brand name planner and specific pens (apparently papermate colored ballpoints are not as amazing as I thought they were). Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for this video because I feel like lots of KZfaqrs in the planning space are more about the planner than the actual planning.

Yes, what happen to the days of getting a planner from Walgreens or Rite Aid.😅 it has been blown up a lot more and a lot more costly. I’m glad my head is out of the clouds and am excited to take it one planner at a time. I am definitely going to a more simple system for next year. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

I've always been a planner but this year i went absolutely NUTS. i could fill an entire store with the crap i have... BUT its helped me creatively and it's helped my depression and anxiety so its a tradeoff. What i have been doing is sending happy mail every month... Im in a group where we send out one every month and boy are people happy when i choose them because its like Christmas! It helps destash my hoard and it makes others happy so thats definitely helped cut down.... I pretty much know what works for me now but the ONE planner i want and havent been able to afford to purchase is the wonderland222 A5 all in one... I want it so bad but until i sell a couple things I've told myself there is no way. Hoping to have before 2024 because it and my A5 rings and my EC pocket planner would complete what i need. I switched to rings so i could print my own things. Life changing! I subbed. Will be neat to see how you use your things... I think it's a great video idea to show people how to use their things and I know tons will follow to help them on their journey as well! Take care ❤

I like the idea of Happy Mail. I use to do that and Pocket Letters. That is good you are willing to sell something to get something. I really need to do that. Printing your own inserts is definitely a plus. That’s great you have it figured out what you like. Hope you get your Wonderland222 soon. -Jen

Hi Jenn. Ur leather planner covers are beautiful. But I especially love the dark chocolate brown cloth(?) cover. Would u mind sharing where u bought them? From which vendors/sellers? And I salute u & ur de-cluttering goals as a way of life! Plus, the less we add to landfills, including lethal plastic, the better. Mindless/excessive consumerism is, literally, killing us, other animals & the eco-system. So, thank you for being part of the solution, instead of the problm, Jen!

Presales allow us to order our planner of choice and ensure we get what we want and don’t run the risk of sell out (especially with these small shops). But we don’t have to buy them all or even change our system or our size. We should be buying what we need for our planner needs. And if something new fits the bill better we buy that.
@Jenscraftsandjournals

I agree with you. I’ve tried different planners to see what would work and just have accumulated over time. I have never done presale planners so I understand it is for those who have their systems and want to get product before the rush. I am grateful for your videos. I watched your videos and find them very helpful. I am guilty of planner hopping because if wanting to try something new, but have come to the conclusion that Aura Estelle and Wonderland 222 A6 are planners that I have come to like. Just want to use what I have and order only what I need moving forward. Thank you for your planner and notebook reviews. It has helped me to find a system that I like and enjoy.
