Thanks so much for walking us through it! I’m using a bit of core knowledge this year for science and plan to use more next year especially for my oldest in 7th.

Oh this looks great! I’m secular but my son is very into Christianity so he loves the faith based curriculum but a few subjects that aren’t faith based would be awesome for me 🫣😂

Now that we’ve done a few units in core knowledge especially science and language arts. It’s giving me confidence that I can actually teach them. Once you get the hang of it you can add your own thing and make it more fun. I feel like we are going to use a lot next year because it just feels right for us.

I totally agree! We started with just using CK Sci and Geography and now my middle child is using CK Language Arts. I find it to be a high quality curriculum that allows for a lot of adaptation.

Ahhh thank you so much for this! I’ve been stressing over science for my oldest next year. He’s starting middle school and I’m wanting to get more on track with his peers/public school and this sounds perfect! I watched your other video as well where you showed the weather unit and it was very similar to a weather unit we used from Moving Beyond the Page. I was impressed because CK is FREE and MBTP is so expensive!

I was recently looking at MBTP and was shocked at the price 😬

Totally not science, but I was so overwhelmed with planning our upcoming Ancient Rome unit. Things were just totally going wrong. I was hesitant to use Core Knowledge for a bunch of reasons, but mostly the level was quite a bit below where I need to hit. Turns out, I purchased a few middle school resources from TPT to weave in, and I think it will work well. I think Core knowledge is underrated, and I think it's absolutely fantastic that it's available for FREE!!

I definitely agree that CK is underrated! I think it lays a great foundation while allowing for adaption and supplemental materials if you want to add on.

We just did the push and pulls unit as a tester to see how it goes with my 4 year old and it went so well! He loved it and was engaged. I think it’s a winner!

Core knowledge looks like an amazing resource. Does it go past elementary level?
@michellegf
@michellegf Жыл бұрын
It goes up to 8th grade. I am hopeful they will eventually develop curriculum for highschool 🤞It was only in the last few years they released middle school.

Hi Michelle, Do you use CKLA materials as well? If not, I'm curious why. I've used all of core knowledge for K-3 and they were very good materials, but labor and time intensive. Our kids are similar ages, mostly GF, and we're ELCA using secular curriculum for similar reasons as you. I think we're kindred spirits!
@michellegf
@michellegf Жыл бұрын
We’re definitely kindred spirits 😄 It’s like finding a needle in a haystack! I use CKLA with my 6yr old, but Lightning Lit for my 10 yr old daughter. I’ve never looked into CKLA for the older grades as LL has worked so well for my oldest and she can do most of it independently.

The good to know what is working for you. I've never looked into lightning lit. But I have used CKLA in the older grades and I like that a lot too. The downside of core knowledge is it's in time-consuming! Thanks for posting your videos. You're the first homeschooling mom out there I found who has views and approaches similar to mine.

When you previously ordered student reader hard copies, how long to process and ship?

It took about 2 weeks. However they have changed the site from when I originally ordered my copies.

No I didn’t purchase anything. Both the teacher guides and student readers are free to download as pdf. You can also choose to purchase the physical copies if you wish.

How to you teach more than one grade level at once? I have two children in two different grades 2-3 do I combine the work?
@michellegf
@michellegf 3 ай бұрын
For CK Sci I combine my kids. I use the units for 5th grade as it’s aimed primarily towards my oldest. I adjust my expectations for my younger daughter. For example my oldest will fill out the accompanying worksheets to each lesson and my youngest daughter will just answer them orally. She participates in the demonstrations, listens to the readers and watches the videos with us. You don’t have to stick to a particular grade level. We’ve even done a human body study using CK Sci units from Kindergarten all the way up to 5th grade.

@@michellegf wow that’s amazing thank you for sharing so this year coming up my oldest will be in fourth and my third grader could just learn along with his older brother kind of like moving ahead. Ok I’m going to try this
