1. Fix Nitrogen
2. Produce Food, Medicine, or another "Yield"...
3. Covering the soil-- Groundcover and plants that produce shade will protect the topsoil from sun, while roots will help protect against erosion.
4. Dynamic Accumulators (bring nutrients and water up from deeper in the soil and make them available to nearby plants with shorter roots.
