In this video you will learn all you need to know about plant species R, the plant that grows meat! Why? Reasons! Why kill for your meat when you can grow it in a fancy tek crop plot?
This guide will show you where to find plant species R seeds. The seeds are located in the most dangerous part of the Genesis 2 map, Rockwell's Innards. There you will be looking for mutagen, when glows bright white and will also be detectable by an icon that appears on the lower right of your screen. Once you get the mutagen, be ready to fight your way out of the innards because you will set off every alarm in the place when you do it!
There are 5 different plants species R seeds, one for the 5 different kinds of meat.
Plant species R-1(red) which produces regular meat.
Plant species R-2(cyan) which produces regular fish meat.
Plant species R-3(green) which produces spoiled meat.
Plant species R-4(pink) which produces prime meat.
Plant species R-5(purple) which produces prime fish meat.
These seeds need to planted in a tek crop plot which can be unlocked at level 104. The crop plot is made in the tek replicator and is powered by a tek generator so dont expect to use these things early! Once you grow plant species R, you can then harvest them with a pick. If you harvest too much meat from them they will recced into the crop plot and you will have to wait 30 minutes to harvest them again.

Problem is it exchanges Meat runs for more Element runs, which is kind of a devil's bargain. Doable in Genesis 2 but still harder than simply getting meat, and much harder to pull off in other maps. Very disappointing that these are powered by tek generators.

@@Migolcow 1 good element run on gen 2 gives hundreds of ele, which will power many max range tek gens for days, not to mention that multiple people in ur tribe can do ele runs and as the stats of the farm dinos will get better, the rates of farming ele will get better. So no worries about ele on this map

At first I was confused about why you'd have a plant that grows the stuff that you get piles of every time a carnivore mistakes you for a meal. But if you're a late game guy and you're farming dinos for your T-rex breeding farm I could see the benefit of having a few less dinos in your roster.

When I first saw this plant, I thought it would have had a similar functionality to that of the Whips from Natural Selection. Instead, it is plant you grow, that you can harvest for meat. Yeah, I agree with Lycanite now, what has Ark become?

unfortunately the mutagen plants aren't respawning on our server. the icon appears and i've been looking for the plants for days but i could only find them when i first entered the zone

so the high tech crop plot requires all the same stuff PLUS power? so advanced. wildcard, please, whats the point of tek if it isn't actually higher tech? make it draw water out of thin air, make it draw nutrients from the ground directly. if you're going to make it top tier and use power, make it a real improvement.

I agree 100% with the OP. The Tek crop plot is pretty disappointing. I guess that it was designed with a PvP rathole in mind. Not much use to anyone else.

I don't get why the tenticals grows backwards in the plot, instead of forwards. It's not like there is an option to rotate the tek crop plot when you set it down either like you get with some structures.

How much meat can you reasonably expect to get from an R-1 seed? Surely enough a meat run is a lot faster right?

When I first heard of these, I was hoping they would be a new defensive plant for your base. I agree that they are sort of pointless once you have easy access to meat. So a requirement of 100+ seems excessive. The only thing I would say is that they could be useful if your base is built far from fish and you are breeding piscivores or if you have a friend that likes to be your domestic tribemate, but doesn't particularly enjoy combat.

Or if, like us, you have hundreds of dinos, with 40+ out and about, and it is a decent little expedition to go get that much meat. AND trolls are hitting the server constantly. this most certainly does make endgame much easier.

Pretty sure the crop plots don’t have to be powered for the meat plant. Also I don’t think greenhouse boost does anything for the meat plant. The timers always 30 min and it always gives the same amount of meat. The power just makes the crop plot act as a fridge so the plants berries and stuff last longer.

These new R plants are pretty cool, not sure how useful they're actually going to be, meat isn't too difficult to get your hands on, but it's nice to have the option. The prime meat tentacle is definitely an exception though, that sounds extremely useful

Use a good Dino meat harvester like a Giga instead of tools, you will slot cap Raw Prime and Prime fish meat with each plant.

There is a good sound strategy for this let's say you're being siege in your defensive base and you can go out to get food you got water if you built an water inaeration system inside your base you been fighting for 5 hours you got plenty of water but now your character is getting hungry you forgot to get meat into the base now your characters is starving and is about to died this would be a good alternative to haveing meat inside your Base when you don't have to go out and risk yourself when your enemies outside the base but yeah I think the concept of it being a whip plant would have been better it would have been cool if it could have been both but it's defensive potential got wasted

I thought it would grab passing creatures and harvest their meat. Just a display crop it would seem, unless you live far away from meat sources like fish, and you just need some fish.

No. far from it. When you get big enough that you need much more meat than harvest trips would provide and/or trolls are hitting your base endlessly. We have 40+ dinos out of cryo at our base 24/7. Probably more. Gigas, Tusos, all Wyverns, nearly anything you could ask for. You go hunt for them every time and tell me how much fun Ark is. lol

I think the only one I could see being useful is prone fish meat on Aberration, if you don’t want to have to make a dedicated trip there. Other than that, no idea.

Arks starting to reflect modern life, Stryders are like Amazon, everything u want just transferred straight to your door. Ur tek suit is ur car that allows u to get from a-b easier, Meat plants are like McDonald’s, fast food ready to go, and mewlings (can’t spell it) are day care for couples who both work 😂😂. I could go on and on... I’m not complaining tho to be fair, I like the new map and new stuff. This is the end game after all anyways and I don’t have to time to invest anymore so it’s great 👍 😂.

On a dedi server, only 3 mutagens spawn in the rockwel area, and it takes 8 hours for them to respawn. Is this legit the only way to get the R-seeds?

That is my understanding yes. On unofficial/single player the time is 1 hour on respawn.

I have tried both Chainsaw and Iron Pickaxe and I am unable to harvest any of my plants Species R-# plants. Seems this is a PVE issue. Must enable PVP to get it to work. Hopefully Wildcard will fix this soon.

I dont know whats weird when I try to harvest the plant with my pick or chainsaw, it does not damage the plant neither it gives me the resource from it. Has anyone else gone through same issue ? the other thing is that, taming the space mini whales passively is also seem buggy for me.

Not going to lie, while its useful, the R plants are disappointing. I thought they would be a new attack plant, shoot out some elemental blast depending on their color but instead we get meat kiosks.
