In today’s video we talk about choosing the best clover for your situation. Not every clover may work on some properties. We are one of the few companies that do not use a “one size fits all” approach with clovers. Each clover variety has a specific time and place . We help navigate you through some of the bad seed choices that are being offered and what you should avoid.
Enjoy!!
The best clover offerings for ten whitetail and wildlife land manager.

Thanks John, your products look great in the bag, pure seed no junk I almost hate to open it. Something else, a former partner of yours taught me to use your product and then ask me to stop and use his. I’m sorry but I won’t do that, I believe in loyalty and you have never let me down.

Ya It’s funny how they shot dozens of giant deer with our products, now they bad mouth our products and say they are no good. Our switchgrass sucks, brassica is no good , screen is no good , soil builder is wrong 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️… Haha you just cant believe anything they say anymore unfortunately.

This one needs its own comment!! Holy crap that three strip clover comparison is the FIRST TIME I have ever seen on any food plot videos a distinct difference on clovers! You can really tell which ones green up sooner and the clover chicory looks like a salad so early in the spring. Well done. Now back to the video again!

Hey John great video, lots of important information! I’m lucky I guess with our land in VT because we don’t need any green manure. The plots were just saturated with organic matter and all I needed was a drag harrow to turn it over and mix it with the black gold underneath. Northwoods Whitetail clover blend plus chicory grows amazing and keeps coming back going on 3 years now. I do over seed it with one 4lb bag in the fall but to be honest it really doesn’t need it. I just like a thick carpet going into spring green up, it looks like a green shag carpet already and the deer can’t get enough of it. I feed our herd all summer with no problems with doe scaring bucks away. I have videos and pictures of a very nice eight pointer, not yet a shooter, during the day in October/November eating on it. Four pointers, spikes, button bucks, they come and go along with all the doe all year long. Some I’ve been watching since they still had spots, the eight being one of them. Northwoods Whitetail is the only seed I will use period, honest company that doesn’t use BS to sell their seed. Keep on Keeping on John!

Hey John! I planted over two acres of your clover blend last august and I’m so impressed with how well it’s growing. Like you I’m in the far north and the deer are just loving it now. I’m going to add chicory as well. How long does it stay viable in the fall before it loses its attraction? Going to ordering my plot screen soon. Your products are the best quality and best price. John , I purchased your clover blend last year and rye grain. Planters first week of September. It came up great served Pennsylvania winter. I fertilize it early this year since it’s been warm. It took off its over 6” tall rye just above it about 8”. Followed your exact plan and have great results. What type of chicory is being used? I do have wild chicory growing around my area , something that was plentiful all around when I was a kid now 67. My grand father use to pull it dry the roots to make coffee during the depression.

I bought a variety of clover packages from Northwoods in early March. I’ve been bogged down on a major chicken run build that’s eating up my time and thus I’m not going to get my spring food plots planted. That said, will the clover still be viable next year or should I try and use up the clover this fall? Thanks John. You continue to earn my support.

Keep the seed In a plastic bin in the house or basement. Seed will be fine. Inoculant may need to be added. Or you can plant with cereal grains this fall.

ok,..I was just curious. We work so hard and put so much time and money into our plots, just wanted to know what we are putting in them. Its amazing how the soils are so different from area to area, and how these seed producers have adapted to them over the years. Its just really fascinating to me.

Which clover is best to pair with your sandy soil fall forage blend? I was thinking the red would be perfect. I was planning those two together, letting the red clover come up the following spring and feed critters all summer and then plow it down the following August for added OM. Thanks John!

Seed coater folks claim there is better germination with coated seed so you don’t need as many pounds per acre. Have you done side by side treated - untreated, same variety, same lot to see the difference? I’d like to see pictures. Good video John. Thanks.

Yes I did a 10 day germ test on our clover blend a month ago and it was around 200 seeds. 98% germ. But their 4 to 5 pounds of actual seed per acre is a far cry from 8 pounds per acre. That would mean our germ rate would have to be down 50-60% to equal their same 4-5 pounds of actual seed in 8 pounds (because they have 30-40% seed coating) .
