PLANTED HAZEL Nut Trees ABOVE the New Road & had to stir up some 💩 with the Excavator

We got a great deal on some hazelnut trees about 2-3 years old. We hope it does great here in IDAHO. After completing Phase 2 of the project we wanted to get these trees in right aways. The point of having hazelnut trees is to use the nuts to finish off the pigs for high-quality meat. However, the trees will grow amazingly up the flattened hill and do some great soil retention. As Always our excavator goes around the property cleaning up everyone 💩, shoveling it is not an option (we would be there for days), and getting it stirred is the best way to have the moisture drain and turn into proper compost.

I suggest you put concrete down in the pig pen slopeing to the front of the pen away from the structure. All the scrapings from the pen will make great soil amendments for a garden spot. Keep the great videos coming.

Stir in a bunch of corn in the cow manure over the winter then move the pigs into that enclosure after the cows are put to pasture. The pigs will root out the corn turning the manure into amazing compost.

I worked in mine reclamation and erosion control for 2 decades. I would plant clover on any bare ground, its a nitrogen fixer. We used Birdsfoot Trefoil as it grows anywhere{best if inoculated}. It will provide a 2 foot mat that can even be mowed for feed.

for the cows its best if you set it up so that you have a shoot in the back so you have a central point to push it to and then deal with it when you have time. the shoot allows it to drop down to a concrete pad thats easy to clean with a skid steer. hope this helps. we used the large concrete blocks that they use for retaining walls to build ours. we only have 8 cows

Great idea Mark. We put in Apple, Pear (Damson) and Cheery trees down at my sister's place down in Wales back in the early 90's and back then we thought because of the soil type and condition they may not take. To help things along we laid down one of those automatic irrigation systems. I put a T piece into the outside tap and plumbed the auto timer valve then run the lines out. We set the timer to run for 4 hour from 10 at night till 2 in the morning. Took a few years but now they produce so much we have to get the niebour in to help with the harvest. There is always far to much so Janet (my sister) ends up giving most of it away in the village. There is a place over the other side of her pond where Cobb nuts grow wild. Always good to get them in ready for Christmas. Looks like a good spot to plant them as well. Thanks for posting and have a great day....

Make certain you configure you pig barn so that you can clean it easily with a skidsteer or tiny front end loader. You want to keep that barn cleanable all times of the year. My brother and I had to hand clean two pig stalls in mu uncles pig barn one spring. Hauling liquid manure with wheel barrows is no fun!

Looks great. Just by looking at your soil on my screen I too would’ve thought that it was a rich highly productive soil. Great video

Might want to buy a couple water timers! The cheap ones are less than $15, they will break if you pull on hose but you can set and come back later to turn off!

You guys are such hard workers and you've done soooooo much with your property. I just love your videos, but I do have a question. When will you be putting siding on your shop? Here in Oklahoma, you don't dare leave wood "bare," lol.

How about you try an AUSTRALIAN INVENTION CALLED THE AUSSIE TEE low water sprinkler,as it is suited for the application that you want for your water system at low pressures.

What good are Hazel nuts ? Are they edible ?
@damogranheart5521
@damogranheart5521 Ай бұрын
They make for good eating. For people who are allergic to gluten, they can be ground for flour to make a marvelous chocolate/hazelnut cake. They are also the garnish in Daiquiris, and Old Fashions. Frangelico is a hazelnut liquor. Kahlua makes a hazelnut version. Chopped fine, they decorate cakes and chocolate pies. I believe that people should play with their food and see what flavors they like!

Yes hazels are used for baked goods like cakes and cookies. But we hope to have an abundance so we can feed and finish our pigs with nuts as well.
