It felt great to get all of these plants in the ground, and finally start to fill in some holes in these new flower beds! I am especially excited about the hinoki cypress!

One should always be responsive to the behaviour of plants in our gardens, so I agree with your revised planting strategy in a recently sheet mulched area. as the soil will generally be somewhat compacted and lacking in organic matter. I am enjoying the evolution of the various gardens you are working on, and hopefully your parents are appreciative of the improvements as well.

They certainly are appreciative, and it finally feels like things aren’t such a mess anymore! I’m getting more motivated to plant more in the ground now!

According to one plant app, that amsonia is "Amsonia tabernaemontana... (a.k.a.) Eastern bluestar, a species of Bluestars" so you were right! I love these plant beds!

I tried using a trustworthy plant app and it wasn’t giving me anything specific, so I hope that we are both right! 😂
