In this video we are planting around 1.5 acres of corn in two of our largest food plots. This is our first time actually planting a corn food plot, in years past we have drilled some in by hand with our soybeans and brassicas and it did well, this year we are using our family owned 2 row corn planter to help us plant the corn. If the corn produces well it will be a major late season food source for the deer. I plan on updating you guys throughout the growing season of these corn food plots and all of our other food plots will be planting and updating videos of soon, so stay tune for a lot more videos coming.

Very nice... I enjoy the land management aspect more than I do the hunt. It is so much fun to work the land.

Miguel_Uno Agreed, hunting is fun but when you are managing your property and planting food plots you can enjoy your property all spring and summer long.

The bugs are just starting to get bad here in southern WI. We had a nice dry stretch the last week, but today we got a nice amount of rain.

1.5 acres is a good size for beans, hopefully it turns out well. I recently discovered this product called Xplode. It is used for spraying crops, saplings, and flowers to keep deer and rabbits away for up to a week or so. It has a very strong garlic smell and I guess it’s the real deal. I am going to try it this year on some of our beans because the deer always hammer out small bean plots and slow them down early on.

I got ya. Thanks for tip. I only had 90 lbs of beans for my plot today I feel I spread way to thin at least the rain held off for me. All I have confidence in is my dark overpriced Illinois soil lol I guess I'll see what comes up next year. Do u guys own your land or rent it

Great video! I'm looking for information on the 3 point drop spreader you were using in this video. Thanks
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 Жыл бұрын
That 3 point attachment was originally used for dropping salt. My dad acquired it and we used it for spreading lime and fertilizer that year but haven’t used it much since. It didn’t open enough and dropped pretty slow. And doesn’t broadcast it. Faster just to fertilize by hand with a earth way bag seeder. Most of my bigger plots only need 3-6 bags of fertilizer.

Very good video, thank you. Where did you get that great fertilizer dispenser, I love it

Thanks, that is actually a salt spreader, but works good for lime and fertilizer, my dad picked up for dirt cheap a few years ago.

What do you do for that “wet spot”? Anything you plant like that area because of the moisture?
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 3 жыл бұрын
Anything I have planted in that particular spot grows but doesn’t reach its full potential, even with enough fertilizer it still is smaller than it could be. But lucky that’s only a very small portion of that plot, the rest of the field grows stuff just fine.

What kind of corn planter is that? It looks like a International 249 and thats what I am looking at buying and was wondering if it gives you any problems?
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 4 жыл бұрын
Jake the Rattle Snake Confer yes I believe it is an International 249. It was my grandpas planter and he put in a lot of corn with it over the years so it’s a little tired. This is our first season trying it out. Everything works fine except the drop and raise mechanism. Sometimes you can’t get it to come up and other times it wouldn’t drop. I’m sure it’s a fixable problem, me and my dad are going to look at it harder next spring before we plant. But other than that it works great. We used our massy 65 to pull it in a lot of our videos, but I did pull it with the atv when I planted a small soybean plot up by the house that I didn’t get any footage of and the atv pulled it very easily. I will probably just pull it with the atv in the future because it’s easier to maneuver in our small plots. Good luck

What is the number on the plates in the planter?
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what number they are, didn’t know they had numbers. We just use the heavier seeding rate plates for beans and a little less for corn. Sorry for the late reply

How many inches between rows
@wisconsinwhitetail9744
@wisconsinwhitetail9744 3 жыл бұрын
Our old planter is setup at 38in rows. We planted all the rows at 38 the first year. Now we double plant a lot of the rows to get a higher plant population and the ears are pretty much the same size.
