Love narcissus and allium. Although I often plant hundreds each year, I never tire of them. It is good to see you planting bulbs you've found on clearance and in smaller quantities. I love to find them on clearance and buy many kinds in small quantities to determine what does well for me.

Of all the bulbs, perennials, tubers and annuals in my yard. The allium always gets the most love and eye catches from people. I think People cant wrap their heads around a giant purple ball the size of a soccer ball floating in the air.

Thank you so much for sharing...... I live in the desert California, Palm Springs..... I started planting bulbs.... mostly on pots and barrels, and recycled empty plastic cans.... it is very challenging in the desert... our place, the surrounding is cemented so all my plants are on pots... love all your videos... they call me the “plant freak”..... 😂😂😂

I used my Pro Plugger to plant some daffodils a couple weeks ago and it was easy! (The only tricky thing is that spot was on a slope so keeping my balance was fun.) It even cut through small roots with no problem. Thanks for recommending that tool!

We buy plants only from small independent garden centers. But we switched to buying bulbs online from family-owned businesses because they come directly from Holland ready to plant, and because they are big (topsize).

I live in central Mississippi. I talked to several people who live in my area who have had trouble growing alliums here. A few years ago I planted some and they never came up. I just bought some more yesterday. Are there any tips you can give me before I plant them?

Pots are normally rated 20° less. So, if you're in zone 7b... then the bulbs would technically be growing in zone 5b. (Every 10° is a new zone)

No not at all. Only problem is that the longer they are out of the ground the more likely they are to rot or desiccate.

Jim how do you protect the bulbs from squirrels and chipmunks? I have som crazy critters and I know they do not care for alliums but if I plant some tulips in between, do you think they are safe? I also hear blood meal helps but I would rather get your opinion. Thank you in advance.

I heard you shave Irish Spring soap & sprinkle in holes with bulbs & then on top to keep them from getting eaten.

Jim, do you know if larger alliums like Globemaster Allium will have only one bloom out of one bulb or two and even more? I planted 15 Globe-master alliums this year in a couple of spots and think now that it is just not enough but they are quite pricey.

Don't worry all of the Allium's will multiply within a couple of years. Dig them up in the fall and replant them.

It would take me an hour to get the clay back out of that pro plugger after using it once it my soil.

I have clay soil and my Pro Plugger handled it like a champ. You just have to make sure the soil is mostly dry, or it will get clogged. It's a pretty heavy duty tool for the price!

I'm new to gardening and just put in 1,525 bulbs this year in 3 different beds at my home. My question is, "how do I know which beds will come up in year #2 and which ones will I need to replant? Also, what do you mean when you say 'divide daffodil bulbs'?"

Well you didn't say what type of bulbs you planted and you didn't say what zone you live in so hard to answer. Daffodils spread they produce bulbs off of themselves. You can dig them up whenever summer is best when they are dormant and break up the individual bulbs. Lots of videos on that. Gladiolus also spread.

darn it my zone is too high for alliums. would you say those persian blue will bloom a true blue?

Do you live in zone 9 or 10 or even 11? Agapanthus is a great alternative, and there are cultivars that grow as tall or taller including those are rather blue looking... I would take a look online...

@@emmalavenham hey thanks emma. i'm in zone 9b. yes, i've "aggies". my personal fave is agapanthus, elaine. cobalt blue, though somewhat nodding blooms. true blue blooms can be tough to find.

@@mikenealon4042 Did you consider planting tall bearded irises like "Big Bet" to get tall blue blooms earlier in the season? In my experience, irises are tough as nails - and are actually blue ( and lots of other colors too).
