I LOVE that you said you raised babies and toddlers first before raising pampered plants. I'm in the babies and toddler stage right now. (Baby #6 on the way). It's a good reminder for me to pace myself and not try to do everything all at once. Thank you!!

I raised 19 sons, only 8 years apart in age. 3 biological, and 16 adopted boys. Though we had our veggie garden, chickens, and always a milk cow, I waited to expand as well. My husband died when our sons were ages 4 to 12. I never expanding the hardening and animals, until my youngest started school. So, 1 year after my husband died. The wee ones need us to parent first. It's not a race. You'll do just fine. ❤

I have a friend who keeps a 3x5 file box with cards for anything she might forget. They're all in alphabetical order, and when she plants something she wants to remember or puts something "in a safe place" that she might forget she writes it on a card and files it. Ingenious!

I was raised old colony Mennonite in Manitoba, my first language was Low German, a lot like PA Dutch but probably some regional accent differences. We grew up with Saskatoon Berries which grew wild on the prairies and were incorporated into our region’s culture with recipes and foods inherited from our ancestors that came over from Russia in the late 1870s. They taste (to me) like blueberries on steroids. Big flavours! They do well in ph soil up to 7.5. My mom, having 6 kids made cookie sheets pies. Simply roll bigger pieces of pie dough into the same size as the sheets…..add sugared and floured berries to the top edge of the pan and top with another sheet of pie dough. When this is cooled and cut into rectangles it makes for an excellent hand snack we often ate outside while playing. It looks a bit like pop tarts but so much better! 😊 we came to expect out saskatoon pies in the form of sheet pan pies. Also she would make a couple of pans and bake them one at a time while the other waited in the freezer for harvest field suppers!

I love that. Wish I had been able to learn more about farming from my grandmother's family. But she was the youngest of 6(that lived) and there was 30 something difference in age from her and the oldest. So they left farming when she was a young adult. She did have a goat farm and planned on showering us with knowledge but her husband died the yr before I was born and her step kids took her to court and she was made to sell it and split the money with them. So she sold it for $100 to her neighbor. But after that she didn't want to talk about farming much.

My great x3-grandparents were Mennonite. They came over from Germany. I have a few pictures of them, but otherwise know nothing about them. I love your videos not only because we bought 10 acres for a homestead, but because maybe it gives me an insight on how they cooked etc. Thank you for your videos. Also, thank you for touching base on raising babies and toddlers. That's where we are now and everything is a slow process because of that, but it's okay !

I’m 4 hours North in Minnesota of your farm and I’m learning so much that I can use in my everyday life. At my age you’d think I was wiser 😉….but a person never stops learning and I needed this information on growing blueberries!! I originally grow up in the International Falls area which is on the Ontario Canada border and we just naturally would head to the woods to our secret find, as we called it, and would go blueberry picking! So I naturally thought all of Minnesota would be ripe for blueberry growing….but that’s not true 😂…so I’m learning so much from your channel that I just wanted to take this time (I’m sure there’ll be many more times) to say a thank you for your learning, teaching and sharing! So much appreciated!! 💕👍

I have wanted to grow blueberries forever, but, even though they are naturally grown in my area, they do not thrive in my yard. It’s too alkaline as well. BUT Saskatoon berries (also called service berry) do great! They taste like a mild blueberry, a little smaller with a larger, edible seed. They are a favourite in my home. Haskaps (also called honey berry) also do good but they need an appropriate pollinator. Saskatoons are self pollinating. No babysitting.
