Just did a ceiling at the top of stairwell that turned on 2 separate flights a nightmare for working of steps we simply built a 4* 2 platform decked with half inch ply but made it so as to leave just enough room so u could just squeeze past up and down the stairs were still usable then simply used a small hop up from the platform to set the ceiling worked a treat nice and safe and no probs getting to every part of the ceiling comfortably the client luved it so much we numbered up the parts for him to re use if he ever needs to get up there mats cost about £70 and took just a few hours to build it rearly did work well and put a big access problem to bed

For those change of angles on sloped ceilings, I like to throw a laser level and fit a stop bead. That way you know it's 100% straight and level. Then simply plaster upto the stop bead which acts like a guide.

I'd say on this one (unfortunately from experience) that ceiling needs to be done first then you can ping both top and bottom which will help. Did one last week I thought I'd get away with.. @PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
Hello pal! Good on you. Firstly I'd PVA the whole area with a mix of 3:1 (3 water/ 1 PVA) and then I'd fill any low spots or blown plaster with British Gypsum Bonding. This way you'll be plastering onto an even background. That's what I'd do pal!

For flicking water, washing etc) Mixing drill 90° corner trowel Midget trowel Tin snips (for beads) Sponge float (if one coating) That should get you started, general tools also help such as hammer, tape measure etc That's just off the top of my head

I have two corner trowels worthy of the bin. Any advice on them please. I have two Marshaltown corner trowels one plastic adjustable angle pointless can't angle it less than what it is for example 80 degree or even get it set up to 90 degree angle. Then I ordered another but stainless steel Marshalltown still left with a problem the angle of the trowel in more like a 100 degree angle which is pointless on most corners when you use it the edges make heavy score marks wanting to take of plaster even if I try to angle it still seems to be a problem. It requires me to squeeze the blade's to get it into the corner. What is the one u are using I need one like yours which looks a bit smaller than mine please help sir
@Lemon-squeezer
@Lemon-squeezer 4 жыл бұрын
It's about getting your timings mate pointless doing using the corner trowel while the angle is still soaking wet as it will leave a mark on your walls in the corners I think the ragni corner trowels are better than marshalltown,I use the corner trowel after it's had a flatten and then it's first wet trowel then I use it leaves no marks or imperfections the walls are on and setting but there not soaking wet that's the best time to use it
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest @mpapa I find that the Marshalltown corner Trowel's are massively disappointing! Everyone I've used have been a total let down - they are awful! Timings are crucial but try a corner Trowel from another company my friend. It makes the world off difference 👍

100% agree with plastering for beginners there get rid of your marshalltown corner trowels I binned my one years ago get yourself a refina or a ragni one I have both, just experiment with them and find a happy medium with your timings and when to use them and you will be fine

Hi mate. As a general builder , ive started plastering about a year ago, doing well and slowly building up my gear, got meself a refina superflex, brilliant finishing trowel. Next piece of kit i wanna buy is a speedskim. Would you go for the plastic ones or the stainless steel blades? Cheers.
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate! I'd use the plastic Speedskim - it takes a bit of time to get used to it but it's a brilliant to when it's broken in. If you like that then I'd buy the Stainless steel Speedskim to use in conjunction with the plastic one! Hope this helps mate 👍

Hacking the wood away when cleaning your door frames is not good, always better to use a small scraper, much better control. Always having to tell my apprentice about that.

Hi Steve. I am not a plasterer but we have a house where all walls need bonding and skim. The top floor has a sloping ceiling. I had zero plastering experience but a great willingness to have a go. I followed Blaine's methods to the tee. True it is not to a professional standard BUT it looks very good!!! Much better than I thought it would. As I move down the house the plastering gets flatter and better. Funny thing is I thought the sloping ceilings would be harder than the horizontal ones. They are not!!!! The horizontal ones are blody hard work.
