Try sponge floating your first coat instead of flattening, works really well. I've tried sponging the second coat and not always necessary especially on board work but still a great way of getting you out of the shit if needed. Best plastering videos on KZfaq for learning. Keep up the good work.

I've used the spunge float got me out of trouble loads , it's a good tool when your learning, especially when you've left it to long and your struggling to flatten the spunge with a spray will bring it back again, a life saver always have one on your van.

I use and have only used for the last 20 ish years my M-T titanium coated perma trowel. Had various hand boards, but my trowel is the money maker . I have exact control always have had. No need for all those posh named toys to make it easier for you. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it . Never ever wet sponge floated a wall. I seen a kid do it once. ( what a ponce ) with his leather trowel pocket holder. I admire you young ens and your gadgets . 52 yr old ,troweled for 30 odd of them . Had the same rib less bucket longer than my wife. Cheers for sharing. New to your subscribers list. I find you entertaining. 👍

Blaine - you're continuing to knock it out the park and it's great to see your channel growing. Its rapidly becoming the 'go to' resource for all things plastering. I recently had to skim a vaulted ceiling that had been boarded out. It was a large area and the lines between the angles were not that straight - turned out OK, but wasnt brilliant. Have u ever barrelled the joins between the plasterboards with bonding coat first so the boards have an internal radius curve between them rather than a sharp internal obtuse angle? It would be great to a video on that.....
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
Ha thank you mate I really appreciate that! It means a lot - I'm just happy it's helping. Yes, like you said you curve the angles first with Bonding making it easier to finish. I'll try and get a video sorted at the next opportunity I get my friend. Thanks again for watching. Great hearing from you pal 👍

Thanks for info mate! Refina 18" medium sponge float, OX 18" pro ultra flex, OX 1200mm speed skim with plastic and steel blade, OX 60mm speed skim with plastic and steel blade and just started using OX 14" plastering trowel as my old Marshalltown got broken. Really recommend OX one, same quality but much cheaper price wise.

Good videos Blaine, I come from Hastings too, my best mate was a plasterer down there, in fact his whole family were plasterers by the name of Parsons but he’s probably retired now as that was back in the late 60s early seventies. I use a PermaFlex 13”, speed skim, refina Superflex 2 and a plastiflex. Keep up the good videos as they are appreciated by many. Cheers 🍺🍺

Got one golden rule: new bloke comes in, float & set a wall without speedskims or refina spats. No superflex etc.. If he makes to tea brake I know he's a speard. Don't get me wrong I use Speed skim tools myself, but I get way to many jobs where I'm correcting badly plastering home's carried out by individuals using these tools.. I guess lack of experience with tools so hats off to you in that regard..passing on the knowledge. The Plastering industry has gained an extremely bad reputation in recent years, Due to chancers just giving it a go. It's very interesting hearing your view on plastic rules for and against.. Always tursted MT, nela & renina But ragni have really come on in 2020 some truly fantastic kit!! Think I'm gonna give refina spat & ragni superflex a go.. Thanks to you Keep the flag flying in 2020- beyond 👍💯

Did for the first time in ages a ceiling and a wall. 6 L of plaster on first part 2 on second coat. Took me ages as I cant master the length you get when you trowel and also the way you go forward and a bit back with the trowel.... apart from that it was smooth on the wall when dried. I had a couple of bits I need to fill in a few places but on the whole not too bad. Marshall Town 14 inch, Ox Flexi 16 inch, Have the sponge float and a ox speedskim same as yours but have not used it or the sponge yet.

Love your videos, you are inspiring. What I need to know is the following. How long those it takes your plaster to dried? What kind of plasters you used? Here in America they mostly sells plaster of Paris they also have 20, 45 and 90. That means the time it takes for the plaster to dry but they are white. Your plaster is brown. I know to make a video like that means spending money on the materials but that would be a great videos for people that are visual. Also, here in America they use mostly spachulas but I don't hardly ever see you using spachulas. They have different size from 1in to 14inhes. Anyway, your videos are amazing and very inspiring.

Wait for it to firm up then go over the area using my Nela super flex keeping trowel clean with my brush. Wait for it to firm up again then a horizontal trowel with my Nela super flex wetting my trowel and keeping it clean. Sometimes the tiger striping can be caused by to much troweling on the wall aswell. You dont wanna be playing with it too much before its picked up. Thats what i used to do. 😂. Ive got some serious admiration for the way this fella goes about explaining and showing the simple stuff for beginners. I mean, this must put some time on his day and he dosnt need to be playing with walls like that and sponge floating. It must be painful.

Great videos my friend. I have been watching all of them and learning and trying. Need a few helpful links to buy proper plaster and trowels. Have done this before but not any dam good at it. For starts like to go with knockdown textured finish. Using Silica sand in mix. Can anyone offer a link to what exact trowel or towels I need to get started out with plastering over drywall mainly? Like to start on my house going over painted drywall that has no texture on walls and knockdown texture on ceilings. Like to put nice plaster knockdown over walls and ceilings in a sanded plaster texture. What is best plaster type to buy as well as what trowels and sponges to get in USA? Would appreciate it very much.

Interesting, in Canada we just Tape n coat the joints and corner bead Curious why the joints on your wall don’t crack?
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate! We use fibre glass mesh on the joints which prevents the plaster from cracking. However, we still do a lot of solid plastering over here which ultimately means there are no joints hence no weak points for crackage. That's the theory anyway mate - it doesn't always work that way ha. Great to hear someone all the way from Canada, cheers 👍

When you've got half an idea of what you're doing watch the videos on here to learn the wrinkles. Tradesmen will make it seem like a dark art but it really isnt that difficult. Can you use MT permaflex finishing trowel to lay on first coat as well? So far the tools I got , 14” cheap carbon steel trowel . Oxspeed skim ST and SF . I would be great if you recommend tools and give me the links to buy them . Thank in advance :)

@@MarcusT86 for internal plaster it will be painted. I did my kitchen last year and the corners look quite seamless once painted - really clean. You can get plastic beading which is white in colour (this is also useful for lime where even galvanised beads would be corroded by the high alkalinity).
