Do you use backboarding only for repairs or do you also use it when installing plasterboard to a new stud wall?

Yes. In Australia we call it plasterboard or "Gyprock" Drywall in the states and I think "Sheetrock" in the UK.. Sometimes I wish we all have a standard for naming things. Eg . America call their petrol as Gas; Australia- petrol and we use Gas for cars which the states call it - I'm not sure!! is it LP Gas? Maybe you can enlighten me. Cheers

after watching that you would have been faster cutting a proper square cutting it back to the centre of each stud and put cls or tile baton as your little dwang so.support it and used a screw gun and screws.would have been better I think and I would use scrim tape I don't like to use paper tape not.having a.dig at.you that's what I would have done

+Scott D hi Scott and thank you for your input. Yes there are various ways to hanging cornices and miters and your method is used also. I know that there a so many cornice profiles and your method may not suit some cornice profiles. This method gives people an idea for all cornices. Regards

+plasterrepairtips sorry Scott replied to the wrong person. Your method works ..I try to keep things simple. As I mention in many of my videos this method eliminates using too much equipment and materials. Some people may not own a screw gun, then you have to buy or find some timber, screws, saw etc. My method uses the basic and not so expensive tools. Plasterboard, cornice cement, stanley knive and a pencil is basically all you need for repairing a hole in the wall. Thank you for your comment and there are many ways to repair plaster as you can see on many youtube videos.

@jaimeROBALINO I mainly back block for repairs. No need when fixing plasterboard/drywall on stud frames but if you have a butt join between studs, I would always recommend back blocking to strengthen join and avoid cracking and you don't need to use any tape therefore achieving a flush join.
