Plastic Bottle Drip Watering for Garden

Drip irrigation for free. Haven’t done a gardening video in a while. Been using these bottles for a few months watering some crops as an experiment. It’s been working good. I wanted to share results how to make it.
⭐️Note, 1/8” is a starting size for weep hole. You may need to make larger/smaller depending on your soil composition and crop watering demands!!

Snow in late April doesn’t sound like any fun 😊, be sure to monitor the drip bottle and adjust hole size accordingly! I’ll update everyone on how it’s working with the peppers in a few weeks! Take care, happy gardening!

I’m sure that makes for a challenging garden experience! Heat is my biggest challenge. Easily gets 100°+ and heat index of 115°+ here in July/August.

Great idea, thanks. I'll implement today. I've done something similar for small/starter plants. Cut bottle approximately in half. Punch hole through bottle cap. Thread cotton cord through the cap. Place water in bottom half, soil in top half, threading cord through the soil and down into the water. Can also add tiny amount of fertilizer to water as needed.

Oops, forgot to say, you place the top half of the bottle into the bottom half of the bottle, cap down.

Good idea! I was thinking of using a premade drip kit last year but started with reusing the 2 liter bottles as drip feed. Save $ and upcycle at the same time! Take care! Happy gardening!

I love recycling ~ upcycling. Thank you. I did mine a last week. I need to make a few more up. Buying Olla's can get expensive. I do cover my open ends to keep from mosquitoes having a new home or open water source. This year has been terrible already for ticks and mosquitoes.

Glad you enjoyed! I always try to find a up-cycle use for sturdy plastic items to keep out of landfill. Yes ticks and biting gnats are terrible already this year here too. Mosquitoes never get too bad. But the biting gnat/midge will be swarming soon and they are the absolute worst! Take care!

You could cover the top with tulle or other porous fabric secured by a rubber band to keep out the bees and most debris. And you could still pour water through it to refill.

Do mosquitos use the open bottles for breeding?

The water drains down quick enough in my experience that any larvae doesn’t have time enough to complete its lifecycle. When plants are thirsty sometimes can drain entire bottle in 1 day!
